    Hi Gina, your videos are so informative and fun to watch. I have been playing the flute for around three years now, but I got way more into playing the flute this year, but I would also love to learn alto flute. I have been asking my teacher for a while now about starting alto flute, though, he doesn't know much about it and also thought there wouldn't be any music available for our band "level". I also don't know if it would be smart to start alto flute or just stay focused on standard c flute. your advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks. -_-

    • @GinaLuciani
      @GinaLuciani  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi James! Thanks for writing me. I'm glad to hear you're interested in alto flute! I absolutely love playing it. That is true - there isn't a ton of rep for alto flute in the band setting. There is a lot written for it for solo repertoire and flute choir though!
      You do want to make sure before starting alto (or piccolo or bass flute for that matter) that you have a very solid embouchure and solid technique. That is because all of these flute require a different embouchure than the regular C flute. When you have to adjust your embouchure, if you're regular C flute embouchure isn't solid, it could mess with your sound and your progress.
      Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with!

      @jamesroberts9221 Před 6 lety

      thank you so much for responding!
      that was another thing my teacher was also concerned about: my embouchure, its gotten much better, though he was suggesting I take private lessons and talk to a private teacher. as for lack of music, I was thinking about transposing my flute music to work for alto , though that could be a hot mess -_-. another option could be playing in the jazz band. also this might be a stupid question, but could alto flute play c flute music, with a few key changes and such to make the piece sound like it was written for that instrument but just with higher notes? and lastly would it be smart in general to start alto, when I might upgrade to a intermediate flute in two or so years, depending on how well my geminheart will hold up.
      thank you for responding to my first post, sorry to bombard you with questions-_-

    Ive played with the Yamaha YFL 222 for a year now and for $1500 i can get a new Yamaha YFL 462 H which has an all silver body, open hole, offset G, B footjoint. This is the only "all silver" new flute that I can find at this price.

    As always, wonderful video!
    I have question: how do you feel about wooden headjoints vs metal headjoints and wooden headjoint on silver/gold flute vs wooden flutes? I know there's a Trevor James Cantabile II flute with two headjoints in it's case, a silver one and a wooden one. It would be lovely to hear that flute being played by a professional with both headjoints ánd the difference with a full body wooden flute.

    • @GinaLuciani
      @GinaLuciani  Před 6 lety +1

      That is a great question. Honestly, it's such a personal preference based on your playing style and what sound you're looking for. Have you seen this video where I describe the difference between the flute metals and wooden headjoints: czcams.com/video/7aZyDKBKkds/video.html ? It might help you a bit and I do play them so that you'd be able to hear what they sound like :)
      I would love to explore that more though - sounds like a great topic for an upcoming video! I've actually never played an entirely wooden flute before!

      @Nara1Family2Rulez3 Před 6 lety

      Gina Luciani Thank you so much for responding :). And oh yes that video. It's been awhile since I've watched it. I'll be looking forward to a video with a full body wooden flute :).
      What about great flute cases? Like when transporting more than 1 flute. I've got a BAM case for my B-foot Concert flute and my piccoli. But I also own a bass flute, and I'm saving money for the copper Trevor James Alto flute. For these flutes the Wiseman Lindon case for 4 flutes looks amazing, and great extra accessories.
      As always, top videos Gina!

    Hello Gina, if you haven't decided yet on what Flute you're gonna review next month do you think you could add a Wooden Flutes and Headjoints segment/mini - series to your FCNY Sponsored reviews, I'm trying to pick out a wooden flute/headjoint to buy and I would love your take on Wooden Flutes. Unfortunately I already received the flutes for my next batch of videos. I'll keep this in mind though for future videos - it's a really great idea! Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. I'll be at the National Flute Association Convention in early August and I can try some flutes and give you my take on them. Let me know which you'd like me to try :)

      Thank you so much for the helpful info Gina I’ve never been to a flute association convention before so I don’t know which flutes will be there but here ar three flutes that I would like to have you review:
      Yamaha Wood 874 #D710
      Sankyo Wooden Flute
      Powell Wood #15320
      They don’t have to be these exact flutes but these are the most well known brands my flute colleagues know. If you happen to review any flutes at all that would be wonderful. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!

      Believe it or not, most professional flutes are in the $15-35k range. They can go up to $100k though. Crazy that flutes are really cheap compared to some instruments like violins!
