yeah i actually here that the manual trans is crap when you boost the IS. buddy on a forum went through 3 trans and buying his 4th and i here nothing bad bout the autos, iv heard they are one the best shiftable autos out there. i cant wait to get mine!!
I was interested in buying one of these cars and I didnt want to swap the trans. For a daily and a little drag racing auto is the way to go. Maybe a built manual and a stroked 2j. Can't daily a racecar though. Haha.
Props to every build! You're doing great!! I don't know why some people criticize autos. At the end of the day, who ever gets to the finish line first, is the fastest one.
All you disagreeing with this statement are some internet racers. The automatic transmission stock for stock can hold more than the manual. Y’all be on the internet so much but don’t research.
hahaha they think they are real car guys cause they drive a manual we are talking about the trans that can hold more power and be more reliable this is what happened when people think they are carguys cause they drive a manual 🤣🤷♂️
What are you talking about did you not see his car hitting redline? And ya if he was in manual mode he could've manually shifted from the steering wheel but learn something first son that auto turbo will beat your manual. Not saying I like it more but the auto turbos are nothing to f with
@@tonyg-2jz82 also as an owner of the same year is300, im pretty fucking sure I know what I'm talking about. Also while in auto the car will down shift to the last gear to get higher rpms for a better pull and hit the red line before shifting. As do most automatics when you push the gas all the way down.
People only trashtalk automatic sportscars because they want to enter that dreamstate where they believe their 0.5L V3 renault is better, because it has a manual. People talks shit because they're trying to convinse themselves they drive something better and thereby turns and twists every single difference between the two into their cars advantage. Proud supra owner.
If you're aware. Most IS300's come stock 2JZ-GE... Back when, USA and Europe only had Automatic RWD. But in around 2002, they pumped out a few manuals. Don't be so quick to judge.
auto trans are better only for drag, for track you either want manual or paddle shifters. personally i like manual becuase i like the feeling of having the control rather than waiting for the trans to shift when u flore it. but tipecally the auto trans are better for drag and can hold more than a manual one.
@timu33 Yeah its stock. Bottom end is good till about 450 hp. I hear that you can do 500hp but I rather be safe than sorry. Plus if you plan to put that much power you better plan on doing more work than just that.
Your right, lol. Im running a is300 with stock twins, 2jz-gte, 6 speed getrag, and 3 disc clutch. Everything that came of the supra is in my is300. Even the 6 speed computer. The only difference is the catback is a HKS super dragger 4 inch.
I know this post is old but did you build the bottom end or are you running it stock. And be careful with a stock tranny too I've heard they don't make it past 300 to the wheels. Also I like the turbo setup they usually put the turbo right next to the throttle body and piping.
Yes it was a stock bottom end. The transmission had upgraded Springs and clutches. It was actually my first fast automatic car I have ever owned and even it being an auto I still had a lot of fun with it.
i have an auto is300 at the shop gettin boosted right now, but the auto tranny can hold 450rwhp , the manual holds 350 (theres no modding you can do to make it hold more) the auto holds boost very well when it shifts.
@BattleAxWarior If your gonna stay with the GE setup without rebuilding the block, dont even think about a huge single setup lol. A perfect turbo for a GE setup would have to be a GT35R setup. Look deeper into it.
I have an 01 IS300 few mods, rebuilt trans yes its auto i would love a stick of corse but the auto is actually still fun to drive with the steering shift. I dont mind the auto these days ive always had stick so its nice for a change. Looking to do a turbo but dont know what kind i should do? Any ideas?
@V10DZLTREG Yeah for one a standard Is300 is real hard to find for a decent price plus the stock auto tranny can handle more boost. The stock standard tranny sucks!! Dont get me wrong the standard is more fun but the auto can build more boost between shifts plus is shifts faster well you do have to put a shift kit on it though. Breaks the tires loose in third gear. Dont bad for a auto.
@CheapHatchback Trying saying that when your 6'2" like me and you can barely fit in your car. I love my IS300 but it was designed for Short Little Asian Dudes(with respect to said people). I wouldn't be happy if I had to deal with a cluth in Traffic with this little car. The Automatic tranny in the IS300 is said to hold 400whp VERY well with a Valve body upgrade but I'm not sure about stock. It's definitely excellent and strong in stock form and espcially after I run Auto-rx through it.
cool car my evo made 381 whp exactly as well 386 wheel torque tho curious the torque on this car , I sold my evo and now looking to buy something less expensive it was a really cherry car I'm just going over some options these 2jz is300 swaps are kinda interesting
I dont like the dash kit either. It was it in the car when I got it. The brakes dont do that all the time. Of course it did it two times really bad while I did the video. Yeah I like the auto tranny and the shift kit. Eat or drink something while you smoke some jerk in their slow car. Car is still for sale.
Wow nice car. I should haves kept my is300 , after getting the 2nd gen is350 I come find that you cannot do anything to the motor. And super chargers for the 350 are like 7 racks and only gains 40 hp LOL
hello this week I will try to do the same I have a Lexus IS 300 automatic and buy from ebay turbo kit comes with 12 psi in truth nor is it hahah I'm new to turbo, now my question is if I can leave my so engine without changing anything inside?, await your response and thanks for showing your work
You can also swap the the W58 and R154 5speed. But it's cheaper to have the automatic built . Whoever complains about auto has never driven a boosted IS300. my 01 turbo is300 is faster than most cars on the road with no lag. There were limited 5speed IS300 released. From 2002-2005. The stock 5speed can barely handle 300-350rwhp. The auto can hold 400 with minor upgrades.
@wdossh Really? Well I can tell you if you were the owner. Where did you live and did you do most of that work? Boosted or not boosted? But if you do have videos lemme know.
im getting i 2001 is300 in a couple of months and want to boost it, its going to be a dd. and pointers too look out for. how hard is it, ive messed around with some 2jz before. but already turbo
A few pounds of weight on the street can be removed by pulling a spare tire and then your car will weigh the same as a manual and shift faster. so if you are going to argue a point at least know what you are talking about. In competitive racing it always comes down to weight. so unless you are in a super competitve series where 2 pounds can make the difference between a loss and win. An auto (assuming its a good car) will shift faster.
I bought this exact car in TX years ago. Built it up to be a beast and sold it to a kid who blew it up a week later. Was a great build.
What's funny is I sold this to a kid in Texas! lol
I lived in Florida at the time when I sold it
All this people bitching about the automatic transmission don't know shit about cars. Nice IS bro.
yeah i actually here that the manual trans is crap when you boost the IS. buddy on a forum went through 3 trans and buying his 4th and i here nothing bad bout the autos, iv heard they are one the best shiftable autos out there. i cant wait to get mine!!
+Tyler Beston your right. The manual transmission breaks down all the time and cannot be used on a boosted IS.
I was interested in buying one of these cars and I didnt want to swap the trans. For a daily and a little drag racing auto is the way to go. Maybe a built manual and a stroked 2j. Can't daily a racecar though. Haha.
Everyones a drifter bro :D
Props to every build! You're doing great!! I don't know why some people criticize autos. At the end of the day, who ever gets to the finish line first, is the fastest one.
Sweet. Glad to hear he is enjoyin it.
When it comes to is300s, the automatic transmission is best. Can hold more power and it's more reliable.
Boiiiiiiiii Haha no
HAHA NO
True, stock manual trans will give out after 400hp you must replace it aftermarket such as w58 and ar5
When the turbo is just about to get in the mood the auto shifts up.
It has buttons on the steering wheel to do manual shift and they hold the gears. Maybe he has the car still?
@@callmexxjacobxx It was in the full auto mode, when in the manual mode you'll see the gear you are in right below the milage of the car

Thats a nice ride man
Great video and nice car
You hit it right on the button.
This has set in the is300 as my next car and inspired me to boost it.
it sounded great...
Sweet Video looks like a vvti 2jzge with a turbo conversion.
If you're aware. Most IS300's come stock 2JZ-GE... Back when, USA and Europe only had Automatic RWD. But in around 2002, they pumped out a few manuals. Don't be so quick to judge.
thats cool you got 2 is300s.
Sweet Video looks like a vvti 2jzge with a turbo conversion. You can tell its the ge by looking at where the intake manifold is located.
say run one more time..... geeezzz
The car I dream of. Or a IS200 Supercharged depending on what I can get in my area :D
nice car.
Thundercloud is beautiful
lol, the 50-60 mph jump was because the camera shaking created a split second jump. you just didnt see the normal acceleration in the video
research!!!!!!!!!! the search box is a mans best friend...dont forget that haha
🔥🔥🔥
@sweetaction69 true but thats what a custom map with flat foot shifting is for too! I dont lose any boost between shifts!
hey... since you got the auto... you should get the works bell paddle shifters... they really do look AMAZING
the difference between a 2jzge and a 2jzgte is the searchbar on the top of your browser.
Lowkey at 2:47 the stocky engine breath is breathing. Good lucky pariboy
Sounds like me scraping down the road

@ oioioisupra. it has a metal head gasket. so that dropped the compression a bit.
ECT PWR = WIN!
I would but I still owe money on my other one and this one is paid off.

its an autometer pod for the Sti modified to fit

the 50mph-60mph jump is impressive.
remove that dash kit and those squeaky brakes. sounds strong

I bought my 01 from a mechanic too! I’m the 2nd owner!
were you the one that did the turbo swap? About how much did it cost to buy & have it installed?
dam this gets up to 60 pretty dam quick.. not bad
@ryanjofre
I'm 6'6 and I simply replace the seat. Yes, the OEM seats are a bit too high for tall people but it's not the end of the world.
thanks
is this engine bone stock with a turbo kit on it or did you rebuild this engine ?
Can you just use the paddle shifts to shift so that it doesnt shift early??
i have an auto is300 at the shop gettin boosted right now, but the auto tranny can hold 450rwhp , the manual holds 350 (theres no modding you can do to make it hold more)
the auto holds boost very well when it shifts.
alex_de_tampa how long did it hold up? I’m looking at buying a stock auto 03 is300 and wanna boost it with the auto trans
Turbo IS300 but you still got your ECT Pwr on haha...nice
Did u install a transmission cooler at all?
Also, i wonder how r u going to read the gauges since it is facing down...
Looking at doing this myself, just a standard 2j for now- How much work is involved? Is it a bolt in thing? and wiring a mission?
You know how hard it is to find a manual is300.

@f44life oh yes it does unless you are referring to mature 17 y.o. which isnt very abundant nowadays
@alienboy366 Well I sold it a lil while ago. But I spoke to him about 6 months ago and he said it was still runnin strong.
What's with you guys and relating boost psi to power output? It all depends on the build, setup, and tune...not just running a lot of boost.
hey can I get info what I need to buy to mske my is300 turbo with stock engine
@tompaek thank you lol ppl need to know their facts
2JZ-GTE/GE one is Turbocharged the other isn't. The Lexus IS300 came with the GE version.

what ems are you running? stock vvti functionality retained?

The rpm needle almost reaches the red line at 60mph when accelerating?
3:27 .... ah lan evoo!!! *-*
What turbo are you running?
I have the same gauges , I just want to know the brand because I bought them off a guy but he didnt know.
idk if this is true but i think the 01 is300 only came in auto and than when 2002 it did have a manual feature
did you buy it turboed. I have a black on black 01 is300 and i want to turbo mines. and what size turbo is it. is it a T3-4
is all the speed meter compatible with the is300 or need to rewire it?
From a guy here local. Sorry dont know where to refer you.

what kind of exhaust do u have one the 300???
