+ here's a note, the purple hawke guide does have far better editing however it's quite outdated since 2 years ago (mamamoo evolves very quickly!!) and purple hawke has stepped away from youtube a while back so we can't expect another guide from them. I know I can't edit as great as them, but I wanted to give a more updated and full guide to mamamoo that new fans wouldn't get if they kept watching the old guide. plus there's some stuff I added that wasn't in purple hawke's! that's all! :)

The disbandment is mainly caused by money issues. Mamamoo were the first artists under rbw so all their debts to create the company and the group fell on the girls but with their crazy schedules, especially at the beginning, they repaid the debt in one year and a half.
Small company groups unfortunately rarely make it bc they don't have any exposure to the public with no money to spend on ads and promo even before they debut, so they debut without a single fan in the audience unlike the bigger companies that start marketing their groups even before debut and create a fanbase years before that.
Mamamoo used to do their own make up and make their own choreographies, they went busking to get people interest, attended multiple festival per day during their busiest days and they focused especially on honing their performance skills bc they only had that according to the harsh standards and they were one of the few that MADE IT.
They are now in their nine year of career and are acknowledged as successful artists both solo and group wise which says a lot on how hard they worked and their talent.
Couldn't agree more, those who aren't from the big 3 (SM, YG, JYP) usually face these kinds of hardships. Besides that, there're other factors like the backlash from Knetz (there are already some idols who chose suicide after reading so many comments), choosing another career like becoming active in music theatre or becoming an actor/actress or active in a variety show. So, we must give applause to those idol groups who are still together after 7 years.
To be honest, as someone who has liked Kpop since the 2nd gen (Mamamoo is the 3rd gen), I must say that the Kpop world is really harsh and at some point really ridiculous (for example the pretty face you must have the weight, the age that someone must have if they wanted to become an idol) 🤐🙃
I wish the guide included that street performance mamamoo use to do during their debut, since no money means no tv appearance (they once even called out the video editor of the behind-the -scene episode of some music shows cuz they always cut mamamoo screen time from actual on-air footage. The mistreatment they recieved istg) so they chose to perform busking on the street, with 4 mics, a speaker, and a big sign with their group name on it. They literally started on the streets, thats how poor their company used to be :')

Ill just share some interesting info about Mamamoo that aren't in the guides here:
1. RBW's ceo formed Mamamoo with the image of creating a group of artists and not 'idols'. Before Mamamoo debuted, the ceo would show clips of the girls showcasing their talents to fellow members in the music industry, but they commented that although Mamamoo was very talented, they still wouldn't make it/last long because they dont look like 'idols'. That is why Mamamoo's journey to the level of popularity, respect, and admiration that they have today wasn't easy.
2. Mamamoo was the first girl group under RBW, and much of the companies income come from them. it was through their success that RBW flourished as a company. In the past few years, the company was able to debut other groups such as Onewe, Oneus, and Purple Kiss.
3. Their Immortal Songs performances are damn impressive. Since this is a singing survival show, for an 'idol' girl group to appear 14 times is quite the record, and they also won more than once. You can check out their Immortal Songs Medley in yt if you want to hear most of the songs they sang on the show, but checking out each performance is also worth it. My personnal favorites are Backwoods and Passion Flower.
4. There is always this unchanging order of how the members stand/sit beside each other, and that is
Moonbyul-Solar-Wheein-Hwasa.. so if you're still figuring out whose who when you see them, just remember this order.. its crazy how it has always been this way since the girls debuted.
5. Mamamoo sucks at lip-sync. There was video of them in a show where they were asked to try and do lipsync and they were so bad at it.
6. Mamamoo's fandom are called Moomoos. Moo means radish in korean, and the lightstick actually looks like a radish lol.
This is all i can remember for now. to fellow moomoos, If I made any mistakes, feel free to correct me and also, comment other Mamamoo facts you know!
They used to suck at lip sync (that video was from ages ago), but they’ve done plenty of convincing stuff in the last few years. Solar especially, thanks to her CZcams stuff. Hwasa still doesn’t really try though lol
- During their debut, they used to do busking and performing on the streets just to get their name out there. With 4 mics, a speaker, and a big light-box with their group name on it, they perform everywhere that would let them. Mamamoo literally started on the streets :')
- Since no money means no tv appearance, they often mistreated by k music shows. They once even called out the video editor of the behind-the -scene episode of some music show (show champion, I think, but cmiiw) cuz they always cut Mamamoo's screen time from the actual on-air footage (the mistreatment they recieved istg -_-). Now, that Mamamoo is big, all of that music show uploaded a bunch of unreleased footage of Mamamoo that they cut onto their own youtube channel for clout lol
Fun fact: Solar is known as 'Wendy's protector' among the two fandoms since she was the first one who found Wendy after her accident. Solar has also mentioned having Wendy on her YT channel for a collaboration, as well as Irene (and Apink's Chorong whom you don't know) for another episode.
Yep, their company didn't have much power to increase their screen time, much like the situation with BTS. The video didn't mention it, but they had multiple performance on the street too. They also mentioned how their dorms were filled with roaches, and upon switching on the light to the bathroom, the roaches would just scatter around. They did their own choreography, makeup and clothing. I'm not sure but it may be during the gogobebe era that they got a professional choreographer.
They were living and working in such bad condition that it isn't a surprise that they wanted to disband, especially since they were overworked to the bone too.
But the girls were really strong and coming from no background, they made it to the top. Like they even performed and apologized for being late to a concert as 'they were in an accident'. They performed and danced like nothing happened, although we could see bandages and bruises on them. They deserve everything now but i believe that they deserve more.
Edit: the bad thing about k-pop is that it is all monopolized by the big 3 companies and those talented idols from smaller companies don't stand a chance. Moreover, mamamoo is treated like sh*t in those award shows but they are the few girl groups other than red velvet, that is respected for their talent and not just their influential level based on popularity and looks on the screen in Korea.

One of the best things about this guide is that it took inspiration from purple hawke but used different clips and it didnt have the robot narrator voice. if you watch this and the purple hawke guide, the content is initially the same but what you see in the video isnt, and some clips used to describe the girls or show their personalities are also different. you basically learn the same thing but discover and see more of Mamamoo :)

One thing that the guide doesn't really state much is that all of the songs shown at the beginning of each member's presentation are their solo careers' title tracks. They do have solo projects within mamamoo, as shown during the 4 seasons projects, but they also ALL have debuted as soloists separately which allows them to show even more of how strong their dualities are, and yet how wonderful their dynamics as a group remain. If you wish to dive more into the group, there's a lot of content with all 4 of them, and then ofc separately with the youtube channels, the radio show etc etc, and their solo music. Thank you for the reaction, it was very cute and I reall appreciated your enthusiasm for what mamamoo stands for, and the time you took to think about their struggles at the end! ♥
this guide is inspired by purple hawke one but this is better as its uptodate 2022 and shows new things and all the video clips are 4k quality
Mamamoo is four fabulous singers with beautiful distinct voices doing great music. Someone once said that whoever found & mixed these four voices into a group was doing God's job to bless human ears & bring healing to our souls. I agree with that.
RBW was a real small company in that time ,and it did need lots money to push their artists . Mamamoo did their best to make it happen and they really make it work . I am their fan since Queendom area , I was amazed by their vocal talents and also live performances abilities .
You can try checking their MV and also live stage in one video , most of moomoos love their live more .

Mamamoo are all very involved in the songwriting process of their songs. Since Cheese in the Trap Moonbyul officially became the most credited female in kpop, which is quite impressive, though it’s important to keep in mind that it can change in the future. Solar has composed multiple songs like Never Letting Go and Star Wind Flower Sun which she gifted to Moomoos. Hwasa and Wheein also have multiple credits, you can check their Komca credits.

Oh that’s right you need to check out their solo stuff too! Especially Moonbyul’s Lunatic and Solar’s Honey. Then on Solar’s channel she and Moonbyul did a video where they sang each other’s solos!
I haven’t seen this guide so this is so cool and interesting. Usually people only react to a different one and that’s fine but it’s a bit outdated although it still has true facts. This one is better since I learned they all have CZcams channels. I thought only solar did. Even though wheein is my bias I never actually checked because I didn’t realise. Lol. Love this.

A note on Immortal Songs. A reaction to an actual Immortal Song performance is like to be blocked, there are a few like Delilah that seem to slip by more frequently. What many of us recommend is the Immortal Songs Medley, which is part of a concert at the end of 2016 and is safe to react to.
I'm glad that you also plan to look at Purple Hawk's guide. There is a lot of overlap but there's a lot of thing in each of the guides that are not in the other.
Thank you for taking time to react to both parts of this guide. I've seen both parts before but enjoyed watching them with you again, and seeing you discover more about each member and the group's journey. Moo YT did a fantastic job of putting this guide together and it's great to see reactors using it to get more up-to-date info. Will definitely look forward to you checking out the Purple Hawke one as well, as that is also a great guide. Mamamoo is really something special. They are just so incredibly talented that it's sometimes easy to forget how much hard work they put in to get to where they are today. For me, I'm probably still considered a baby moomoo, coming up to almost my 1 year anniversary since I discovered them. Their talents and powerful performances caught my attention, but what really made me a fan was who they are as people, very down-to-earth and humble despite their talents. The first thing that struck me about them (watching their Killing Voice performance) is that despite how talented each are, there aren't any diva vibes among them, or members vying for the spotlight. Each member has their part and support when it's someone else's part, and they come together cohesively and harmoniously. That made me dive more into their content to discover who they were behind the music, their genuine bond, their underdog story, and positive message really made me their fan. I really look forward to seeing you discover more of Mamamoo on this channel.

All Mamamoo's members are songwriters, producers and co-producers. Mamamoo is the most credited and self-produced female group of kpop
I wasn’t into Kpop but I knew groups like twice and others. But when I found Mamamoo it felt different they felt like home. They help me see that being myself is beautiful because there is no one else like me. Mamamoo are just amazing artist and inspirations. Something that wasn’t included is that red velvet and mamamoo and friends since their debut. But the closest members would have to be Seulgi and Moonbyul.
Thanks for exploring this. Their music and videos are really fantastic but these types of explorations really make me love Mamamoo that much more. It shows how human and gracious that they are under a huge amount of pressure. Also check out their 1 Million dance videos.

I look at these girls and am always mesmerized by their talents and beauty, but at the same time ... they make me sad in a way. With all the pain and hurt that goes with being such celebrities, which they can't show, I feel for them. I just wish all of these ladies happiness and peace.

I can imagine groups breaking for solo careers. They all are quite strong soloists. I think it was in 2000 they were held 4 of the top 6 spots for female soloists sales. But they really do love moomoos. Moonbyuls suit in lunatic had moomoo written on it. Hwasa had moomoo on her fingernail so in I’m a b.

Just to clarify something that I think many people are confused or mixed up about, is that since Cheese in the Trap C.I.T.T, Moonbyul has become the most credited Female Idol. This number/ credit list comes from KOMCA, Korea Music Copyright Association, Korea's official copyright site.
All the girls wrote songs, and are also involved in composing as well.
Currently, Moonbyul has the most credits at 98, Hwasa at 37, Solar at 34, and Wheein at 9.
It was mentioned that many of Wheein's work are not published, and there's a file of her work that was still with RBW CEO Kim Dohoon and he said it wasn't time to publish, or something like that (don't quote me on this, because it had been some time since I saw the video of Wheein talking about this). I just hope that Wheein managed to take that file with her when she left RB..
I just want to add-although it’s true that the company overworked them at times, working several festivals during their younger years did actually allow them to pay back their debt at record speed. Typically groups owe a big debt and won’t really start to make much money until that’s paid off. Other seniors also advised them to work as much as they could and pay that off quickly while they’re still young. They sometimes had up to 4 shows in a single day. But working that hard allowed them to pay off their debt in under 2 years. They moved out of the company dorms and started living on their own and making plenty of money for themselves after too.
Note, I’m not condoning being overworked, but I just wanted to mention that there was also a motivation to work more in their younger years. They were definitely overworked during 4s4c promotions, and thankfully fans stepped in to boycott if they didn’t give Mamamoo a break. Sometimes the only way to get through to a company is their wallet. Thankfully it was successful.
I’ve watched both and i will say this new guide is better imo in terms of content because it is more recent so you get more of their stuff, especially solo stuff that wasn’t a lot in purple hawke’s guide. Purple Hawke has slightly better editing (imo, lol) with fancy effects but it’s a bit dated. Still really good so check it out if you have the time.
You also have to understand for my fellow Americans who don't use kilograms often as a measurement, but when Moonbyul said she weighted "a lot" at 60Kg, that's 132 pounds. For her height, that's a healthy weight and isn't "overweight" at all. Heck, I'm 62Kg so I must be so far in the eyes of knetz who enforce the beauty standards. As someone around MAMAMOO's age range, I have learned to love my body and respect it's needs; but my blood still boils when I hear people call artists "too fat" or "too thin" like it's any of their business.
I saw it somewhat mentioned in some other comments, but mamamoo and red velvet are quite close, despite not having been able to hang out together in recent years. They have a private chat they use called 'mamavelvet', which is their name for their friendship
The show 'idol drama operation team' (which you were right about doing reenactments) had byul and seulgi talking a bit about the groups staying out late together until rv noticed it was curfew time and had to get back tonthe dorms
Moonbyul and seulginare the two closest out of them (which sometimes gets a bit confusing as byul also has a younger sister named seulgi. Sometimes it's not clear if she's mentioning moon seulgi or kang seulgi when mentions the name). But members of both groups have said numerous times that as a whole the other group is their closest friends in kpop, even as each individual has closer individual friends, either soloists or from other groups
On top of hanging out together in early years, they stayed together during isac (an idol athletic competition) and had some quite fun encore stages together when one group won first place (my favorite is mamamoo making red velvet and a member of gfriend dance with them after a win)
Byul also appeared as a guest (alongside joy) in an episode of irene and seulgi's level up, where she joined seulgi and joy in her second favorite pastime: teasing irene (right behind teasing solar). Seulgi also got interviewed on byul's radio show and later went camping with her and a member of oh my girl on byul's yt channel
Other groups mamamoo is close to include apink (mamapink) and viviz, who are former members of gfriend. Mmm/gfriend did a few shows together, weekly idol and 8 episodes ofa show called showtime

As far as what pushes a company to disband a group, it really is very situational. In the case of RBW, Mamamoo was the proverbial basket holding all of the eggs. If they didn't succeed, the company probably wouldn't have made it. Other groups and companies can be very different based on a lot of different factors.
For Mamamoo, that means their success pretty much made RBW what it is today.
For the disbandment thing.. there A LOT of reasons and it's kind of personal to the group and company... most common reasons can be:
-the group not selling well, lack of money the group can continue..
-Mental health issues.. (this and money are probably the most common ones)
-mistreatment for the company, the members dont want to renew their contract (but they can change companies if that's available, so disbandment can be avoid in this case)
-Some member doing illegal shit and that kinda makes the whole group fall...
We usually find out when its anounced but they usually know with a year or more ahead of time, is something that gets talked a lot before taking decision.. but theres exceptions when companies mistreated them and just tell them one day you are fired..

MAMA MAMA MAMAMOO!! First time I've seen this guide. It's ok, and does a good job on a time line of their songs. I still prefer INTRODUCING MAMAMOO By Purple Hawke. It flows better, does a much better job showing each member as individuals, documents their journey better, and augments the members humor with editorial comments, graphics, and other visuals.
In Queendom 1, they competed against; (G)I-DLE, Oh MY Girl, Lovelyz, AOA, and Park Bom. They had some epic live performances on that show like, GOOD LUCK and DESTINY
I'm enjoying your interest in Mamamoo. I my opinion, BTS, Blackpink and Mamamoo are in a category all by themselves at the top of the KPOP pyramid. "Disbandment"??? You know Mamamoo just announced a new 0t4 album and concert! Looking forward to many more of your reactions to Mamamoo.

I try to explain as best as I can to your question. But maybe other Moomoos can help me fill in what I missed, because I've just been a Moomoo shortly (starting 2020).
From what I understand and the news/videos that I'm following, it all started when Whee in decided not to extend her contract in RBW and move to another company. From there it is well known to us Moomoos that Whee in is receiving unfair situation most of the time by RBW (ex. she has to shoot the last one in making MV, her solo album not promoted as much as the other members etc). You can see her frustation in her Solo songs such as Watercolor and Trash. Those songs has strong messages and indicates that Whee in is ready to move to another company (not renewing her contract). The negotiation itself between Whee in and the old company tooks a very long time until they reach an agreement, and that moments where is the most tiring moments for Mamamoo members and Moomoos. But fortunately they finally reach an agreement (as you can see in this video) and Mamamoo is not disbanding.
Frankly after knowing this stories, I've decided that I can't choose a bias and chose to Love all of them. Because I can't imagine if they're disbanding, the world will loose masterpieces from Mamamoo with 4 talented artists.
If you follow their latest performance in Kpop Flex in Germany, you can see how happy Solar is when they're together again. Because Solar is the one that really thinking deep about their future as their leaders.
And last, I'm sure all Moomoos is agreeing with me, that we can see how Whee in is very Happy with her new company now. She shines more brightly now. 😄😄😄

yes, honestly Wheein moving to other company is the best decision. She looks genuinely happy and open up more which I can see on her vlogs and interview. I love her energy now, its like her during earlier era.
PS We know that they are family and if each member has issue they are all affected, thats why I say that it is better for everyone.
