GRAMMY, CMA and ACM award winner Ashley McBryde cut her teeth playing country songs in biker bars - and it shows. The Grand Ole Opry member’s 2018 major label debut Girl Going Nowhere (Warner Music Nashville) charmed The New York Times, NPR, Rolling Stone, Paste, The Washington Post and more, all en route to landing a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. McBryde closed out 2019 with ACM New Female Artist, CMT Breakout Artist, a New Artist of the Year win at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards and two nominations for the 2020 GRAMMYs for Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for “Girl Goin’ Nowhere.” Her follow-up Never Will was tagged by Rolling Stone as one of the most anticipated of the year alongside NPR, who also ranked her Top 10 RIAA Platinum-Certified single “One Night Standards” as one of the best songs of 2019. The album earned McBryde a 2021 GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album, making Never Will the only album nominated for Country Album of the Year by the ACMs, CMAs and the Recording Academy in the same award season. Her GRAMMY-winning duet with Carly Pearce, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” went all the way to No. 1 and earned McBryde and Pearce the ACM and CMA award for Musical Event of the Year. McBryde was also honored with the 2022 CMA International Artist Achievement Award for the most significant creative growth, development and promotion of the country music industry outside of the United States. @@bev4155 hope that your family know how blessed they are. It's the small things that .my mom would do like leaving thar light on. Even after I joined the Marine Corps and would come home to visit she would leave the light on when I go out with my friends.

My Mom is in the process of dying as I write this, 900 miles away. My sweet sister and her daughter are listening to this song and crying together in the kitchen as we're sharing memories and giving thanks for the Mom who got us through our hardest days by being available at any moment to listen, to love, to believe the best, and to prove that God is faithful to us always. I'm sad at the loss of her presence here, but not one bit worried that I won't see her again! She will be there with THE LIGHT when I see her next! He's coming back SOON!

My mom paced the bedroom hall way until all 5 kids were home ..with the beads in her hand..light was always on in the kitchen ..then she turned off..and went to sleep..she ll be 92 in may...love u kochie..❤

Same. I'm a grown woman but an Orphan bcus my biological mother was horribly abusive so I was in & out of Foster homes during my teens, at an age any girl should be able to be having heartfelt talks with a mom, dating, going to Proms etc.
So many women did not win the lottery in life w/a loving mother. I never had a light left on in the kitchen for me. But the song reminds me of a very, very dear friend who was like a sister/family to me. She passed of Cancer way too young (age 46), but there wasn't anything we couldn't talk about. I was the last person w/her when she died, & a female pallbearer @ her funeral. R.I.P. Kara, I'll ALWAYS "leave the light on" in my ❤️ for you, my sweetheart bestie friend. 💖 ✝️
Been battling Cancer + 2 bouts of catching COVID back to back for two years now. I'm currently having to "rehab" myself on my own at home during to severe muscle atrophy from having to be bedridden for so long. (1.5 year of Oxygen machines for covid, covid hit me HARD & I almost died 5 times under in home Hospice last year), then found out I had Cancer in my left knee. I was so weak for surgery but did it. They said they got it all. Yay! But it came back 4 weeks later in the same leg, different area. Caught the 2nd bound of covid this past March, so was way to sick to have the 2nd Cancer removed, yet. I've just started the process of "self-rehab" at home, in hopes I can get this 2nd Cancer removed in about 4 weeks. I'm SO weak, even taking a shower leaves me heaving & heaving for air bcus my lungs are still weak from COVID.
And, I've had no family to help me through. Lost my Army husband 14 years ago. Had 5 friends die last year while I was under Hospice.
To say it's been a ghastly, horrible 2+ years is an understatement. Even my sweet little Dachshund of 18 years & 2 weeks, Tootsie died during all this.
Annnd I live by myself. 😮 It's been brutal x's 1000.
This isn't meant a pity party. Everyone on this planet has got problems. But I LOVE this song. I have it in my music Playlist I'm listening to when trying to walk on a walker, shower, basically trying SO hard to just be able to get around somewhat normally again.
Hell, I was a professional ballerina in my teens. A soloist even. So I KNOW injuries & pain.
But after 27 surgeries & 4 organs removed, I have NEVER felt pain like trying to come out of severe muscle atrophy.
Obviously, haven't been able to date bcus I was single when I got so sick. So no boyfriend thru it all. I talk to God & pray all the time. But bcus I wasn't able to have children, didn't even have grown kids or grandkids to live for.
I've been prayin to God to reveal to me why I'm even still here, but I've not had any revelations so far.
Maybe I TMI'd but that's been my authentic journey &, why this song comforts me so.
This song hits me in the feels, bcus I get to imagine what it would have been like to have a mom (ever), who left the light on in the kitchen. Or a family of my own. ❤️

Just heard this song for the first time today on the radio. Wow I feel like this song was pulled from my mind, my life. But as I listened to the song more, it’s a mother speaking to her child and letting her child know that there’s always the light on . I wish I had that and I will have to figure out in my words to always remind all my boys that the doors always open for them. Thank you for the song, thank you for the words. I sang the song with my car windows, open my sunroof and play it loud as tears filled in my eyes.

I heard jelly talk about how this song brought him back n had to listen to it and am so glad I did bc it took me back to the kitchen at my grandmas house with everyone from the family sometimes eating good food n praying before meals and talking about life and funny memories. It also reminded me of the times I went there broken to get away n hide n heal from life. I miss her and my grandpa so much it hurts. I wish I had somewhere with a light on still but I’ll have to be that for myself I guess.

My sister Carol always had her light in the kitchen, never locked her door for anyone who needed a place to stay. Bless your heart was her go to phrase..she passed Feb 23 liver failure.
