    • @one4all885
      @one4all885 Před 4 měsíci +10

      Even $10 for that cheap low quality speaker is too much. If only customers showed how unreasonable this is by not buying this product, Lego would understand people aren't dumb enough to pay for them and would sell a bit more reasonably.
      Too bad though that there are some poor souls that would buy it at this price. They are what keeps allowing Lego to continue to overprice their products. These toys are only as fun as the price you paid for them. The more you spend the more you expect. The less you spend, the lower the expectations and it improves the chance for more fun and appreciation for what you bought.

    • @SO-ym3zs
      @SO-ym3zs Před 4 měsíci

      That's the problem: you have people who won't put their money where their mouth is. For those who think Lego is overpriced, don't buy Lego, or don't buy the sets you think are unfairly priced. Better yet, support Lego's competitors, who are doing some amazing work these days and releasing sets as good as anything from Lego for, quite often, a lot less money. Also, Lego-sponsored channels like this always hyping Lego products and practices don't help the situation.@@one4all885

    IMO, the box art looks a ton better than the actual model - based on this video. It's way overpriced and doesn't look sharp at all. This is actually an example where a generic bluetooth button for 2 USD is a much better solution as it could be inserted into many models and the rest is done by an app on the phone that you can train to play one sound or random sounds, or even your own sounds.
    A bluetooth speaker ( add 10 USD ) inside the head, only activated for a short time by the integrated button, could even play the sound, instead of the sound coming out of the your phone.
    Than you have one device that can be used in trains, cars, space ships without any need to change the device itself.

    I'm not a Harry Potter fan in the slightest, but this is a pretty cool idea and a really solid execution. Too bad it bumps the price up an insane amount, otherwise it'd be something I'd love to see in future lego sets.

    If the sound brick would not have such an atrocious sound quality, like from toys from the 1980s, maybe one could charge such luxury prices. But as it is, this is just embarrassing.

    One thing to consider is that there are Harry Potter fans that aren't familiar with Lego, and see $100 as an affordable set. Overall, the casual market will see the $50-$100 range and buy it if it looks cool, regardless of PPR. That's how sets like the Bonsai Tree got so popular in the first place.
    Is it fun to build? Is it cool to display? Are there play features? Is it within my budget? That's what matters to most buyers, not PPR.

    • @TiagoCatarino
      @TiagoCatarino  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Exactly! That’s why I said the set will probably be frowned upon by LEGO fans who are aware of average pricing of products whereas Harry Potter fans not knowing better will look past that

    i love the idea but overall im not a fan, i wouldnt be interested in this set but the price point for the lighthouse still irks me. i get it, it's motorised and has a newly developed lens but since i got it i turned it on maybe 5 times and only for a bit. I would much prefer it be a reasonable price and without the motorised part

  • @julianniklas7065

    Tiago, my dear. The final price is INSANE and Lego should have been called out on that by you. I get that you have a somewhat special insight into the additional costs of designing the sound brick, having formerly worked for Lego. But in the presumed +50 dollars for the sound brick, Lego surely built in a heavy heavy cut for itself, and the overall price makes this a very expensice one-trick pony, which begs its own from of criticism, I think. I am sorry to say but your reporting on this set is similar to the bunch of unciritical CZcamsrs who are paid by Lego to advertise their material, and I for one like to steer clear of these people when there is so many more independent voices available. I get that your relationship with Lego is complex, but I would have liked a bit more critical thought on this.

  • @SO-ym3zs
    @SO-ym3zs Před 4 měsíci

    Leaving aside the question of pricing and the fact that the set looks like the poopmoji, there's a question about the direction in which the sound chip sends Lego. Obviously electronics aren't new to Lego, but if Lego were to continue to mainstream the use of sound, light, etc., in their products, at what point would you lose the purity of Lego as an imaginative building-block toy and start to turn it into something else? One of the nice things about Lego is that in our digital world, it's fundamentally not electronic or battery powered: it's plastic bricks you apply imagination and skill to in order to create new wholes from parts. If you fill sets with ready-made electronics, they'll start to lose their charm and purpose and identity. I guess we can turn to Lincoln Logs and Erector Sets, then :)

    Nah bro. That sound module costs nothing to make. If it was that expensive, McDonalds Happy meals with similar plastic toys that make sounds would cost 50 bucks too. A mold is not THAT expensive to make and those circuits are probably standard stuff with just different sound files stored. Production probably costs somewhere around 1-2 dollars, and development... I could develop that in a weekend by myself with a bit of (e)CAD and about 10 lines of code lol.

    the sound brick is cool, but holy shit does it make the set overpriced. a cheap sound machine like that shouldn’t make the set double the price (in terms of price per piece). Lego’s greed in terms of specialised and cheap electronic pieces is just horrible.

    • @TiagoCatarino
      @TiagoCatarino  Před 4 měsíci

      50 is probably a stretch. That module for sure increased the value of this LEGO set by at least $25/$30. But the piece itself doesn’t cost 50 of course

    • @svenuckermann3196
      @svenuckermann3196 Před 4 měsíci

      @@TiagoCatarino But even that is quite too much. A small soundchip is like 1-2€. Add some molding etc. I would say 10€ MAX for that. if it would have bloototh or so to add more sounds sure. But playing just 4 clips ? Motorized face would bring up the "value" up in my eyes ... but yeah I would agree on 10-15€ added value for sound.
