I must admit, this radio is actually REALLY good and i will go into detail about a few things the video only scratches. I tested the MMR-99 FM/AM model because i don't like and don't need DAB+.
The sound from the speaker is very impressive in person and it makes sense that you can use it as Aux-in and Bluetooth speaker too. It's really smooth and and has a good frequency spectrum (especially at the lows) for the size. Definitely better than 90% of the Outdoor & survival radios out there and it's in fact so good you can actually use this radio as a Daily Driver for music and sound. Something you normally would not wanna do with most outdoor radios. The sound is basically as mighty as the Constructionsite radios that also are rugged and for outdoor purpose.
What i also love is that the LED light is indeed more like a warm-white, for both the small and the big one :) I like that a lot more than the standard cold-white LEDs you normally have. Very bright and a lot easier on the eyes than standard cold-white. And the ability to have 2 brightness modes, even for the red LED, is super helpful too. Like when you wanna let the red light run on low brightness as a nightlight. So if you need that feature, this is definitely possible. The radio also remembers your last brightness setting. If you had set it to low brightness it will turn on at low brightness the next time you turn it on. So thankfully it will not start at the highest brightness setting at first and having you to manually select a different setting but it will turn on just as you had it set before. A minor detail but i am glad it exists. Can be VERY useful in some situations.
That's also the same for which Frequency Band you had been using. If you had it on AM, it will start on AM if you turn it on again. On AM you also have a Bandwidth Selection to chose between Narrow, Normal and Wide which is something you commonly don't find on normal consumer radios. I like that it's there. For FM you have Normal and Narrow.
It also has automatic fine tuning for stations. That feature can also be turned off if you don't need it. Just as changing it from FM stereo to FM mono if you have a weaker signal and FM stereo sounds more noisy under headphones. The radio also picks up RDS info of radio stations and the LCD shows the RDS info like it would on a stationary Radio Tuner in your AV receiver or in your car radio. You even have FM Stereo output via the headphone jack. Saving radio stations on FM and MW is super easy too. You cannot delete them but overwrite them. There's also a Sleep function so the radio turns itself off after 15-120 Minutes.
The internal Clock also seem to set itself automatically via Radio signal. So you don't even have to set it manually. You still CAN do that manually if you want to. Display Backlight can also be turned off entirely or set to how long the backlight shall be on. Built Quality is also really good and doesn't feel cheap but really well made. It also comes with an USB-A to USB-C Charging cable so you don't have to buy one. Antenna is 64cm long and has a really good length.
If Sangean would ever do a Successor model, it would be great if it had Shortwave instead of DAB+ :) With AA battery option too. Other than that the MMR-99 definitely gets a recommendation from me. It's an exceptionally good radio. Yes, it costs more than other survival radios but the amazing sound of the speaker to me is well worth it.

@@Sangean1974 Thank you! That would be amazing. Perhaps also changing the Backlight of the LCD to orange again, like on the MMR-88. And please make the internal rechargable battery replaceable again just like it was on the MMR-88 with a easily accessible compartment or how it used to be on Mobile Phones. Being able to easily replace the battery makes it a lot more attractive for buyers. Because the MMR-99 draws a lot of battery power even if not turned on. And please give the handcrank mechanism gears made of metal and not plastic. Other than that the MMR-99 does a lot of things right. :)

@@Sangean1974 I am really delighted that you listen to feedback :) I just wanna make it clear that i REALLY love this radio a lot. It's my first one from Sangean too and even though i had the options to go for other models from others, i still went with the MMR-99 because it felt like the better choice and i wasn't wrong. It's so far the only portable Radio i have with the best sound. It is basically the kind of amazing sound i didn't have anymore since i was a child and had a radio recorder with cassette deck and 3 way loudspeaker. It was a bit bigger of course but i loved having a really strong and clear sound. And basically almost all Compact and mobile radios you can get sound also pretty dull. But the MMR.99 really surprised me a LOT. I went with the FM/AM model and i like how sensitive it is. Especially on AM. You did a lot of things right with putting together THIS model and i really feel it's well worth the money. I am really glad you made a good sound an important aspect of this model. When i was checking the radio settings and options (like for the Frequency selection for Europe, Japan and USA) and the Bandwidth selection i was really surprised to find such features and i am VERY glad they are included. Definitely something that should stay because i don't see any other competitor radio at this price and especially none for emergency cases, that has all these features. And yes, i REALLY love that the LEDs are more of a warm-white tone and that the red light can be used as a normal light as well and also including the 2 intensity modes. That too is a feature i am VERY happy about and what should absolutely stay. The station memory also works very intuitive and i have been using the radio now for a while and basically used it more than other radios i have laying around. It has become my main radio and i still love it a lot, despite the non-replaceable battery. The Aux-In is also a feature i am VERY happy it exists because that's why it becomes my first choice for plugging in my phone as a playback speaker.
Should there ever be a successor model there are really only these little things i would suggest:
      - making the rechargeable battery accessible (perhaps with a cover on the bottom or under the Handcrank, held in place by a screw maybe or a weather sealed cover like the ones for the I/O ports)
      - changing the backlight of the LCD to an amber/orange color for an equally good contrast like the white one but more eye friendly for the night. Or perhaps making it a light color option in the radio settings either white or orange)
      - the handcrank gears being made of metal instead of plastic so it would not break as fast during an actual emergency. This however is optional but would definitely beat the competition since most others use plastic gears too so Sangean would lead by example with metal gears)
      - instead of DAB+ perhaps Shortwave would be a fantastic addition as Frequency band. The station memory would come in very handy here as well as the automatic finetuning. This suggestion is also optional, especially if it would require a complete change of the radio circuitry. If it would be possible without too much alterations it would indeed be VERY appreciated :)
Other than that i think the MMR-99 is basically perfect. I would not change anything of the actual radio components and would simply use them again 1:1 as they work absolutely fantastic and make this radio an absolute pleasure to use with all the comfort you would want but would not expect. I'm very happy i bought this model and can only say thank you for producing such a good product :) Again thank you so much for listening to input and feedback from the customers.

Broken gear mechanism of the dynamo crank after 1 month...
I opened it to check gear status, all plastic ! Come on Sangean, don't tell me it is build to last ? crank reload is of durability zero, the plastic gears will fail at one point in time on yours, sooner than later for sure. I contacted customer support to get exchange gears, but had to return the whole set for exchange against a new one, very ecological when the "cheap" plastic gears are so easy to replace...well in the end bad experience with the product in addition to a customer service coming right from the eighties. This is really disappointing...
