John, if you find it lets oil out into that housing then just replace that outer bearing with a sealed one, you can even take the inner seal off it so it’s still oil fed, but the outer seal should be enough to stop anything leaking out (it’s a trick I’ve used on a few vintage motorbike gearboxes before). All the best, it’s a lovely job.
Probably should cover up that access hole. Wouldn't want any shite to get in there. Do a "boiler cladding" approach. That job looks GREAT!! Should last for many years.

You should make a little inspection plate to go over the hole. Louver it if you need air flow.
