This really helped alot. Thanks. Fixing mine this week. My motor is running so cool there is gas getting into the engine oil. I'm hoping by replacing the thermostat, and adding gas treatment it will solve this issue. Again thanks.
The alarm was not going off because it was not overheating it was stuck open so it would never warm up. If the alarm is going off it is stuck closed so it overheats and the alarm goes off. But it is the same alarm as low oil pressure so check both.
The reason is that the thermostat is locket from al the saltcorotion in the coolingsystem. Everytime the engine has been running in saltwater, you need to warmflush it in sweetwater. You do that in 10-15 minutes. So the salt can be remowing from the whole engine.
I have the exact same motor and I replaced the same thermostat I have looked everywhere for this answer when you turn your motor on and idle with the ears on it or run it in the water. Is the water hot when it comes out of the tell tale / water per stream?
I wonder if I should change my thermostat. Cause every time I go for drive it only works for a few minutes for my merc 25hp 4 stroke it starts shaking n slowdown, after few minutes of cooling it down, it start to run again for a few minutes..... u think dat is the problem why my merc 25 overheats?
Did replacing the thermostat fix your issue? I had a trickle out of the tell tale and then it finally stopped.. Just accessed the impeller and it looks fine. Possibly the thermostat?
Freddie, Thanks for the thermostat change info. Worked great for me on 2018 30 4Stroke EFI. Have you ever changed the temperature sensor. I can't figure out how to find and change it. Tjhanks! Jay
@@frederickschreyer7627 Thanks for the quick reply. I will let you know if I figure it out. First I will check to see if my newly installed thermostat fixes the issue. The alarm would sound after idling for about 10 minutes and the water from the pee hole would not warm up. Oddly enough the alarm would not sound at fast speeds.
My understanding is that the alarm only sounds in an overheat situation. However it may be that the alarm is also set to monitor oil pressure as well. Years back I had a Yamaha 20 4 stoke that wstarted to set the alarm off at idle. It was still under warrenty and it was fixed but they couldn't determine what was wrong with it and wound up replacing the whole power head. Hopefully your new thermo will fix it
I have never used ears. I think it should vary from cool to warm as you run it at all speeds. I don't think it should ever run real hot like a car engine.
Thank you! Any idea why my motor is not running water out when it gets warm? When its is still cold water comes out. After 10 minutes of using it then water stop running out. If you know please advice
I think the thermostat may be sticking closed when it warms up. Replace it and see what happens but do not run it if water is not coming out. Engine will overheat and ruin it.
I see as there is now an ad on this video. That is not my doing. Apparently the tube can just do it on their own. The price of permitting me to upload all my shit I guess.
@@birdieoutfitters6598 no it was stuck open so it was running cold. Alarm goes off when it overheats which means stuck closed or clogged. Or low oil pressure. Same alarm I think.
This was extremally helpful for my 50 hp 4 stoke thanks again for making it.
You are welcome
Thanks for the video! Replaced the stat for $23.Works great, light and alarm stays off. I love saving money!
I am glad it was useful to you.
Ευχαριστω απο Ελλαδα. Thank you.
Freddy you just saved me I was able to change the thermostat on my 2017 Tohatsu 30HP 4stroke!
that is great. Of all the videos I have posted this one has the most views. And comments.

That is my understanding. Engine needs to get hot to prevent blowby and 'making oil.'
Thank you so much, you saved my day.
I am glad it was useful.
Thanks, finally found a video on it

Thanks for the video. After a new impeller is has to be the thermostat. It's over heating and sure that's it.
Thank you!!!!
Thank you sir

This is a good location reveal

Good possibility. May be stuck closed and have a 'limp home' mode. Change it.

No, haven't done that. I imagine it's hooked up to the emergency light/alarm?

I have the exact motor, can you tell me where the mechanical fuel pump in located? (not the one in the vst )
Don't know. Watched a video yesterday about replacing the electric one in the vst. Why would there be a mechanical one if there is an electric one?
Soo hard to find info for this outboard. Thank you

Hey do you have a part number ? I need the gasket. Willing to buy the thermostat too if I need too
No, ordered through a local dealer
Do you use in saltwater ?
A few times a year
Any idea the part number. Thanks
No, dealer ordered it.
