To this day, plastic worms are among the best bass baits no matter where you fish. Fortunately for the angler, innovations in bait designs and terminal tackle continue to advance how we fish worms and all soft bait categories for that matter. Pro bass angler Brandon Card demonstrates the fish-catching power of structure fishing worms using the Tokyo Rig in this action-packed video.
Wired2Fish was fortunate to join several pros for a week-long trip at Lake Baccarac Lodge in Mexico. The broad consensus was that bottom baits were the most consistent producers. Rather than stay on the jig program, Brandon opted to target pressured bass with a large finesse worm worked over the bottom of main lake points. Multiple 6- to 8-pound bass quickly solidified the Tokyo-rigged worm among the dominate techniques of the trip.

Card explains how to structure fish soft plastics using the Tokyo Rig - he goes through a detailed rigging session followed by an in-depth explanation of how he fishes it on a long cast. He then shares a tip on why he prefers two opposing tungsten dropper weights over a single weight, and his rod, reel and line preferences for hammering hooks home on long casts.

You just wait. Soon these fish will be so conditioned to the high end plastics and tungsten whatevers, eventually it'll come full circle back to some guy throwing a daredevil spoon.
great video......it is always fun watching bass fishing in mexican Sinaloa lakes...
That rig caught some beast. Awesome 🐟😊
Still shaking refecting on that morning!
Always have a Tokyo Rig lined up.... Especially love punching with one
I’ve never even heard of this presentation. Thank you so much for sharing! I’m so excited to try this!
Colin Krueger it’s a great option..... you can buy them already rigged from Vmc, Or you can make them your self you’ll just need some heavy wire .
I like to use ewg hooks with a swim bait. It slays the big bass.
Kevin Sharpe as a guy that loves VMC swimbait heads, I will absolutely try their Tokyo Rigs! Thank you for the info Kevin!
@@colinkrueger7119 when you rig it either use egg weight or two bullet weights facing each other with flat side wooorks great. Vmc has heavier a brand called harmony is nice too.
Hi Colin. Thanks for checking out the vid. It's a relatively new system so the angling community is still getting acquainted to it. Here's our Tokyo Rig playlist if you want to learn more about the system (different applications, how-to, etc): wired2.fish/TokyoRigPlaylist
This is a new VMC cylinder weight and has been killer on the Tokyo rig as well: wired2.fish/VMC-SliderWeight
never tried it. may have to pick one up. 👍🎣 awesome catches. 🎣👍
Thanks got to try this
Great video!Lots of good information!
Appreciate it Budjet Bassin. Brandon had this bite dialed!
Obviously! You guys where catching Giants!Fun stuff!
That's my bro!
Great dude, thoughtful angler. -Ryan
It truly is a do all way of rigging:)...caught both LM and Smallies on it
Awesome presentation, never heard of it! Can you also catch walleye with it? Thanks for sharing.
I like the look of that cut tail in the water. Looks like a private lake?? Super studs stocked in there!!!
This was filmed at Lake Baccarac in Mexico. Incredible fishery -- we caught piles of 5- to 8-pounders.
If you learned how to fish parallel to shore, you would be more productive. Fish time-of-day conditions....Amateur hour here.....
They are the same concept as a bottom bouncer, or a drop shot, kinda a clone mix of the two, But, I like it. Do they have them in different lengths, or colors? Thank's, all the best.
How does this compare to the Jika or Gika Rig?
Name of rod is Abu Garcia 7.6 Verosity?
How and why does he set the hook like that? Looks like he can see the fish coming at and it brings it forward a bit and than rips it back? So much power.
And i wonder if that's necessary on a rod with a heavy rating.
I use a TRD in the winter
Notin like Mexico bassin !
👍🏻🔥🎣
Shhhhhhhh!
On my wife’s phone try Mann’s jelly worm 12 zoom mag liz and the anaconda which is a monster curl tail worm and big bull worm by strike king
Lake Baccarac Lodge. Best in Bass ~
It's an amazing destination for sure. Great accommodations, lengthy fishing days and of course good numbers of BIG bass.
@@Wired2Fish It's My Happy Place for sure !
So have you guys used the big worm anywhere else but Mexico? They eat everything in Mexico that’s why I’m asking
Yes, Yamamoto worms catch bass exceptionally well pretty much everywhere. They contain a huge amount of salt and are known to get and hold bites when other plastics fall short. Brandon fished a bunch of different presentations that week at Baccarac so he had a significant sample size from which to base his most productive bait. What is known was that this was his best morning. Success was likely a combination of a loaded spot, hot fish, and no doubt a bait they bit and got hooked and boated on.
Something to replace the carolina rig
Hi Tim, not sure about replacing, but definitely something to experiment with. It will outperform the Carolina rig in certain situations.
#Make yamamoto bring back the cut tails
It's the lake.
Yes, Baccarac is insane but not every outing or every day was like this... there's still plenty of grinding and experimenting with a bunch of baits. This was Brandon's best morning in a week of fishing.
1:30 that’s a him.
Looks like baccarac
Is that in mexico ?
Yes sir, full deets in video description (link to the lodge, baits used, etc.).
To bad we aren't all fishing in a stocked Mexican lake.
I really just dont understand how this is any different than say a shaky head. Realistically to a fish, its gonna look almost identical, iv heard people say it makes it stand a couple inches off the bottom, but it doesnt really. Just dont really see much of a difference.
That mexican driver of yours is not impressed lol how much u pay him?
