- In this video I paint all my chrome bits. Most new cars come with a heap of chrome parts like grill, mirror covers ect.
The basic process is to sand, prime and paint.
You can use a spray gun or a spray can to do the job.
If using 2k paint please do it with a good spray mask and in a well ventilated area with dust extraction.
Here is a video using the 2K clear in a can.
• 2k Clear in a spray can
Here you can find all the products used. (Australia)

Door handles wheels and side steps are done. Check it out here. czcams.com/video/bAM16Fi_5GY/video.html
I remember back in early 2000’s people want it chrome everything mirrors, grille, bumper, rims etc etc now it’s the opposite blacked out everything we going backwards...
Question if I'm going with a 2k satin black finish should I still use a satin clear coat?
Would you what would you estimate the cost to have this done at an auto body shop for a 2019 Honda Pilot. Thank you and thank you for the video
Very nice. Chrome looks great on vehicles from the 1950s, but not on modern vehicles.
I don't think so...I hate blacked out cars....they aren't classy
@@lenjames well new, modern cars aren't meant to be classy....yet. Even newer Corvettes looks very dated with chrome wheels IMO.
NATSCHKE FAMILY ADVENTURES fr I’m trynna get the chrome trim off my 2012 Camry it looks kinda weird
I hate blacked out cars too, they look like base models, blacked out sport cars look nice tho
@@lenjames Well most cars are kind of sporty, so I don't think chrome works. Just my opinion. It's obviously nice to many or car companies wouldn't still be making it, but you still see a ton off chrome deletes via vinyl, paint, plastidip etc. and so many that have the chrome wish they didn't. I think there can be a balance on certain cars I suppose.
Wow, someone who does videos about car things, AND knows how to do an underview at the end. Appreciated. Also, the existence of a 2-part clear coat in a spray can isn't something I would have ever even thought to look up.
This is absolutely THE best blackout job I've seen done. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Really transformed the look of the truck, made it look much nicer.
Instantly made it look 5 years newer, well done mate!
You made that look simple mate - nice work. You certainly know what you are doing. :)
This is by far the most useful video I've seen for this kind of job.
Knowing your business makes everything look so easy. Great video
Man it looks soooo much better afterwards!!!! Thanks for the tips because I’m wanting to do my front grill now!!!!
Looking really good!! Can’t wait to see how you do the wheels. And thanks for the info. I may be brave enough now to start restoring my 69 camaro. I want to do it blacked out!
Dave took the time to break down each step and describe the process, product used, and why. Overall, a great video.
Awesome job mate!!
Also, funny to see you in a winter coat, I sometimes forget your seasons are opposites ours as I sit here and sweat lol
That looks so clean! Factory Clean. I’m doing this to my Armada! Thanks for the video.
If I didn't know you painted the chrome I would've thought it was a factory midnight edition option. Great job
Great video. The thought of doing it myself gives me anxiety 😂
Grow a pair and just do it. :)
Lol I was thinking the exact same thing!!! 😂😂
Just go for it it’ll work, worst that can happen u peel it off
Thats a lot of work. Will consider wrapping over this, except for the rims ofcourse! But you did a great job, truck looks way much better and the paint detail on that black is really sparkly nice nice.
Wrapping takes just as much work and doesn't last forever lol
@@wals479 exactly!
Wrapping is a pain in the bum and depending on what wrap you buy and know what you're doing, you might get an orange peel sort of finish, creases etc. Might as well do a spray job
Gave it a hipster look! Looks great man, nice paint work!
Great video I was gonna use a heat gun to remove the chrome from the grill which would take a lot of time but this method is much easier and less time consuming thx for the video it’s very helpful 👍💯
Very cool stuff! Definitely informative. There's a few things that I didn't know about regarding paint and I appreciate you letting us know. I also like that you did the roof rails with spray cans. Gives someone some confidence because they turned out great on your UTE. I may have to send you an email asking a few questions but this was a very encouraging video. Thanks for the effort?
Such a good paint color! Wish the whole car came that way!
Awesome job, looks great - bloke knew what he was on about..
Looks amazing. Great job!
Excellent end results. Need to hit them door handles as well. Going to do thus to my rig. Thanks.
Looks Awesome!!! You make this difficult job look easy...
Wow, that looks SO GOOD! I've got a 2018 F-150 with lots of chrome. Want to get rid of it all. So, I was excited to see this video. But NOPE! I don't have this level of skill or patience.😫. It would end up being a drip-and-run fiasco... maybe I can find a local artist like you! Thanks for sharing, looks great.
Very nice! Keep the good job 👏. Really good feeling to see you upload videos.
your love amases me
looks awesome Dave, good job mate!
My god that looks amazing. Excellent decision to paint.
Great job! Looks so much better now.
Looks so much tougher with black trim, I would Love to try this, great video
Nice job and well explained. Looks great
You did an excellent job!
Looking very nice...
Sweet video. I've just bought a Navara, a white one. Looking to matt black all the parts you've just painted. Thanks for posting this video.
Looks really slick, nice job.
Thanks that's great really like the blacked out look. Don't forget door handles and windows too 👍
and all the emblems
Amazing video! Very usefull! Exactly what I'm planning to do on my suv.
watching that clear coat go on under the light was deeply satisfying. now I want a spray gun like that lol
Nice job and thanks for the inspiration. Another good project for my daily driver while the world is shut down. I'm going to rid my Honda Accord of chrome!
Seriously helpful video man, I've got a sr5 Hilux and hate all the chrome on it gonna get rid of some of it now
I used to paint cars yrs ago, I'm still one of the most amazing wetsand and buffing guys ever ! Love watching you work that gun 🎉 Base cost clear coat ❤
Wow 😯 you did such a great job 👏🏾
Great job I need to paint some window trim and side vents, now I know how thank you!
Car is looking better than before!
I can vouch for the Max 2K clear coat... I used it on the fairings on my race bike and it's a million times better than the 1-part aerosols. And the little Preval paint sprayers are great if you want to use custom colors but don't have a compressor or sprayer.
I try to find tips for painting over chrome for like an year i found nothing ,thank you for the video 🤝✌
Good job man looks heaps better 👌🏻
Good on ya mate
Outstanding work
Awesome job, as always!
Dude that looks a million times better
Looks great, nice job !
Excellent!!! Beautiful job dude.
Great video mate! Nice job! Thank you.
Love your work Dave
Amazing job and information. I am going to try my vehicle.
I’m a big fan of spray-on bed liner 😀😀😀. Scuff and one coat!
You missed the Nissan front emblem! Haha. Thanks for the video. I think I'm going to paint my trucks running boards. I bought the truck used with chrome running boards but my wife wants to black the truck out. This is definitely what I'll be doing instead of buying new black running boards lol
That looks tuff. Definitely a great vehicle for towing
Lower tow capacity than other trucks of different brands maybe the lowest
Love your vids mate. Long time subscriber. More content!
Yay someone from Australia!!! Great job too!
That looks much better in black trim. I wish we had more vehicles like this in the USA. The closest thing we have is the Honda Ridgeline and previously the Ford Explorer Sport Track. Both are underpowered for towing. Although the new Jeep Gladiator just came out.
thats a nice truck, I wish they sold it on the US. that metallic black really makes it POP!! great work!
Awesome job bro looks 100 times better
Great job... much much nicer finish than to original chrome
great job, looks awesome
Looks awesome mate!!
Looks so good bro!
thanks mate. am gonna paint the chrome front grill of my hilux.
Thank you. Great video with helpful insights.
Really informative. Many thanks. 🤙🏼
Now, if you were only my neighbor and we were good friends. Nice work. Huge difference.
Them parts are Bullet Proof too with That clear Coat...looks awesome.
Great job. There's a new 2k on the block and it has no pot life. You can use a lil now and a month from now. Car Rep. Bought and used and it's AMAZING. So nice not to have to have all the parts ready at same time and hurry up and coat. Now we can do hom much we can and not have to hurry or pay for more cans. Check them out. Car Rep 2k clear, primer even paint.
Excellent job done Mate👍
Always good videos..need more!
You killed it! Also awesome video work!
Bro this is awesome love it
Looks so much better
Love your work..
Damn good job brother!!!
Black is beauty, ain't it? :) nice job.
Very nice work
Im doing this with our 2010 dodge journey. Just got racelines that are semi gloss black. Gonna pull the ugly grill off and paint it to match the body. Brilliant black pearl.
Ok. This guy is a pro!
Mate, looks great!
Looks good man 100% better
Nice video, man! Your french fan :)
Great advice. Will try that on motorcycle parts 😊
Looks great!
That looks so much nicer than the chrome.
Looks really nice! Thinking about doing this too. Do you need a special kind of paint for the grill? I heard that you need some heat resistant ones cause the grill area can get really hot? Is it okay to use normal paints? I don't want my car to start smoking while driving haha
looks awesome! id just add the door handles and the window trims
0:55 Use clip removal tools to remove the parts you want to paint
1:30 Water scuffing paste and grey scuffing pads
1:49 3m sanding sponges
1:56 Wax & Grease remover
2:07 Adhesion promoter (brand: UPOL, it’s grip #4, purple & black can)
2:24 10min after, use Black Etch Primer (V.G. Auto Paints & Tools. Custom Mixed Color. 20min to dry)
After this is all about whatever color
Awesome job..
Brilliant! Cheers mate!
Looks great.
Looks awesome
Very good job
Looks much better ...💪
Great job!
