  • I made a cloud chamber and cooled it with once-through water cooling in my bathtub. It actually works! Got the TEC stack down to -35 °C

As a boy in the 80's I went to an open day to ANSTO at Lucas Heights, Sydney. In the visitors foyer they had a cloud chamber installed which I've never seen since. Also got to see the spent fuel pool for the HIFAR reactor and the hotboxes.

It’s actually a good thing you weren’t IN the bathtub with that PSU sitting so precariously on the edge like that! ⚡️⚡️⚡️😬😬

I am not sure if that is the problem, or that he has radioactive material with him in that tub 😁

a small point light source underneath the rock would highlight the emissions.

People say table top science is dead, but obviously not tub science!

Nice. I understand getting the vapor point right is critical? Easier said than done.

Yeah, getting that supersaturated layer is pretty challenging, and I struggled a lot with different combinations before getting it to work. It's a bit easier with dry ice I guess, if you have easy access to some (e.g. at many grocery stores, in the fish section).

Next, you can make wine or raise fish in the tub now!
