  • In Breaking Bad, drug kingpin Gustavo Fring kills his henchman Victor, in the episode Box Cutter - season 4, episode 1, when he could have easily killed Jesse Pinkman, Walter White or Mike Ehrmantraut. But why did Gus choose to kill Victor? What were the deeper reasons?

    I’m general Gus usually has multiple reasons before he acts, and in this situation he needed to reassert control and killing Victor was the most expeditious way. I think Victor being at the crime scene combined with the need to intimidate Walter are the two biggest reasons. Victor and Mike showed a lack of judgement and attention to detail in this situation, so I think he was sending a message to Mike as well. Presumably everything you listed played a role in this decision. It was the right move.

    Remember, everyone in this show is very cautious about not getting caught for the things they do. It’s that kind of show where if someone becomes a liability that can lead back to them they’ve got to go. That’s exactly what happened with Victor. He let Gail get killed, and he was seen by the witnesses.

He fled the scene but when Gus is brought in for questioning by Hank and his DEA cohorts Gus see a police sketch of Victor. Victor Fate was sealed right there Gus had to kill Victor before the police picked him up and took Down the whole meth operation. This was a great analysis of Gus, Victor, Jessie Gale and Walt but in my opinion that is what really did Victor in and Gus used it as an opportunity to send a message to Walt, Jessie and Mike.

    I do believe that the Better Call Saul episode when Gus killed the undead Lalo was preparation for this scene. Gus had been a drug kingpin who had men with guns.
    I believe that Gus found out that he kinda liked killing people. He might have done it under Pinochet as well, but it is reasonable to believe that he hadn't killed a man in a long time.
    Gus Fring saw the opportunity to give the chemistry workers a symbolic play of sorts to establish his level of seriousness about controlling his empire. Having found his enjoyment of doing the dirty work of killing with the death of Lalo, his inhibitions against killing no longer existed.

  • @transformersrevenge9
    @transformersrevenge9 Před 9 dny

    This scene also lends weight to my theory that Gus was once a drug running military man in Chile. Hector already called him Generalissimo, but look at the traits Gus has. He runs his empire almost like a military unit. He has connections made back when he had power. And most importantly, I think as a general in a brutal regime, this is not the first throat that he has slit. I fully believe that younger Gus was in uniform, did deals with the cartel, and when someone failed him, he cut their throats. Then the regime fell, Gus destroyed all evidence of his existence, took his bf Max, and with the help of Peter Schuller, they escaped Chile. And then when he tried to get back into the game, Hector killed Max to show Gus that he is no longer a person in power. Gus only lost his cool there, because a loved one was killed. When they do have the sit down, Max is the one in a panic, and Gus is the chill one.

    Victor was spotted at Gale's apartment and it's the only link that could lead to Gus. (As far as he knows, anyway).
    What's great about this scene is that Gus most certainly had his mind made up the moment he was informed of the details in this situation, but he slowly takes his time letting Walt stew in fear for his life as long as he can because he's pissed he out smarted him. I still remember the shock when I first saw this, but it's also great on rewatches watching Gus relish in the theatrics of putting fear into his enemy, followed by a gruesome murder, showing little to no emotion. All calculated. I can't explain it, but it's like Gus's way of saying, "yea, you got me, but now you have to think about this while you cook for me."

    I love to call Breaking Bad a fantasy TV show, simply because in reality, a guy like Walter White does not win in the end, he would've been killed off with the quickness, no matter how minor or major a threat. Gus killed Victor as a reminder & a warning to Walt that he could kill him wherever, whenever & replace him like it was nothing. Regardless of the quality of his meth, his empire would've went on just fine without Walt. But that was also Gus' downfall. Aside from the fact that Walt was really lucky, Gus did manage to underestimate him in the sense that he knew that he could get rid of Walt whenever he pleased, costing him his life. He thought very little of Walt & should've gotten rid of him as soon as possible.

    I wonder if walters selfishness would have made he continue to cook even if gus killed jesse

      I'd bet it would, but only after Walt had avenged Jesse by disposing and replacing Gus. Heisenberg was in there the whole time, after all.

    Gus killed Victor because the plot needed this to happen. If this was real, Gus would have forced Walt to cook for him by threatening Skylar and the kids. He could have sent Victor out in front of their house and threaten to have them killed, which would have made Walt follow any orders. He could have done that for weeks until he found a new cook, or just force Walt to school Victor until Victor takes over the cooking, and then kill Walt and Jesse. But then the show would have ended much earlier.

    Not liking this Cineranter analysis. Gus killed Victor b/c he was seen at Gale's apartment. That's it. All the rest of this 'filler' talk is not in the script

    Since you asked for our opinion on any future uploads on this show I have to comment that we English chaps over the pond here are in agreement that if we see any more Breaking Bad content on this channel then it’s going to be a case of the first available flight from Heathrow to come and have a cup of tea with you and anyone else involved in this channel, now I don’t want you to read this as anything other than a veiled threat from a few chaps who are capable and willing so I am grateful for work as usual and enjoy your week. 🎚️☘️
