I was taught by Rebel’s mum in kindergarten ‘94. She really was the most kind, empathetic and joyful person. Read up more on her. Rebel's story keeps changing every time she tells it - little details like where she had her malarial epiphany, her age (even on here where she mentions the age she lost her virginity doesnt match the math on her birth date), her name and her background. I'd grain of salt a lot of what she says. It's a shame because she seems like she's actually quite a cool person and shouldn't pretend to be someone else.

Maybe, but I just find it hard to be critical of her because of all she candidly opened up about. As a late bloomer, when I see attractive smug types who've never known any different ~ the types who are vanity-obsessed & look down their noses at others ~ rarely do they value much outside of image ~ it's almost all they've ever known ~ when those types moan about life it is nauseating 🤮
There was a spoilt rich brat on diary of a CEO a while back ~ the tinder chief ~ Rebel is the opposite of that 🙏🏼

      @kr8882 Před 21 dnem +9

@@Martin-rh7mf there’s a lot of assumptions and judgement in your comment about attractive people being smug. You buy into Rebels story because you are deeming her not attractive. Insecurity has nothing to do with looks or assumptions that your life has been easy because you are attractive. You should perhaps treat people as you find them. Being attractive isn’t a win win as people like you have just proven.

@kr8882 Thank you for your time. Attractive smug types are attractive smug types ~ that doesn't refer to all ~ just those who are smug with it.
I haven't bought into anything ~ not paid a penny ~ simply, when a person opens up about something that's socially excruciating for them, this is something I value ~ I struggle to empathise with those who've been accustomed to privileges ~ spoilt brats perhaps ~ am sorry if that triggers you ~ Rebel's attractiveness is something you've decided to hone in on, which is insightful ~ Funnily enough, I had described her as beautiful ~ an adjective I could never bring myself to describe many celebs who are vanity-obsessed with no real depth whatsoever ~ apologies for the controversy I seem to have caused you 🙏🏼

She is clearly a highly gifted person - first play gets snapped up, snapped up by law school, decides to become an actress against the odds and becomes one of the biggest stars out there. Yet with all that has lacked confidence.
She is very human, very astute, very thoughtful. I have always love Rebel Wilson.
And I am proud of her for speaking out about her experience and for naming him too.
And, for children who haven't had the perfect childhood but in fact experience a challenging childhood, she is a great inspiration. But her parents did a great deal for her in getting her through private school in difficult circumstances. You can detect that she loves them.

There are possibly harsher, more common words, phrases that she could use at times, but she pauses and chooses differently, or she qualifies her experience by saying others may see it in another way.

Her mum made her initially and I did exactly that, I was cripplingly shy at 15 after experiencing a decade of abuse, I peformed in every school play, school musical, school concert, joined the debating team deliberately because I wanted to put myself out of my comfort zone and become more confident and it DID work slowly over time, but no one encouraged me to do those things. I was DEFINITELY a troubled teen, attempted suicide aged 10 and was on anti-depressants by 14 and was in foster care at the time. I don't like make broad sweeping generalisations and using stereotypes about young people or any one for that matter. Not all teenagers that party are troubled. The people that partied at my school were popular and academic and middle class/privileged, the wealthiest kids at school and all went to uni. Having a good time isn't as symptom of distress

Its not just celebrities that get backlashed for losing weight. From my personal experinces of a lifetime if being the only overweight person in my family. My father got furious when he found out I joined a gym. A boyfriend i was going to marry statrted leaving deserts in my car and my fridge, realizung he was a control freak i left. Then when i experimented with being gluten free for my arthritis and weight, I made the mistake of telling my family. My sister did xmas that year, i brought a variety of appetizers and deserts, and for the dinner she breaded the 3 different vegetables and breaded pork chops, insted of mashed potatoes did mac-n-cheese with added bread crumbs. She never cooked like this before or since. Then theres the women at work who noticed. I weighted less.(hate the word "loss" you dont lose fat, thats too simple and easy.
truth is you work hard to get it off). The women bringing in baked goods or large boxes if candy and putting on a portion on my desk. You do not give an alcoholic a glass of booze, you dont put drugs in the face of a drug addict. U learned to keep my mouth shut and expect No assistance from anyone other than my Doctors and people in my weight loss groups.

Congratulations on the weight loss! But it’s tough. I come from the opposite end and I got relentlessly bullied at the job I was working by other women because I was lifting weights and eating to gain weight. They all couldn’t imagine that that’s tough as well. Glad I got fired from that place looking back. It can be very isolating. I’m used to working out by myself and not having any support from family. My best friend always rooted for me but lived far away from me when I was going through that. I do weigh more now and I’m really proud of myself! But losing or gaining, the work that goes into it is incredible and most people don’t even understand that.

@@butterflywind999 Trauma, especially childhood trauma within the home, creates adults who are hypervigilant (focused on situation and context and the world outside) and hyper-conscientious (workaholics). I have heard that the CIA particularly look for these sorts of people to work for them. Underdeveloped in some areas (just as Rebel describes her social skills), the brain has adapted to over develop vigilance and conscientiousness to move us towards a functioning (and then thriving) life. Childhood trauma is not a choice, but our adaption to it can make us remarkable. Rebel is remarkable. The biggest challenge is to spot when we can relax and smell the roses, and then do it.

My Dad, unfortunately died tragically and young too. My Mum (American) had already found the strength to leave him and take two young kids back to America. The trauma still lives in me though. Trauma from watching him drink himself to death, trauma from having a Dad (who I worshiped) that wasnt emotionally available (which was the norm in Australia at least at that time), and honestly, the trauma from being taken from my birth place to be raised away from everything I knew. Not many an actor or actress can probably pull that off as well. More power to you Rebel! Be healthy and happy. I have a feeling you will be around for a long while entertaining us all. All the best!! Great interview!

I love Rebel Wilson, she is an amazing woman, who has struggled like most of us and dared to write about it, talk about it, and overcome some of the same things as I have not.

I adore this interview. Listened to the whole thing while I cleaned my house head to bottom, and I had to stop and rewind some bits to re-listen because I really wanted to process what she was saying, specially about emotional eating and wanting to be unavailable to men. Thanks so much Rebel for coming on the podcast, I needed this.

I can totally relate to the feeling of shame when you see someone cross the line and for whatever reason you don't have the strength to push back and stand for yourself, so we just play along. She seems to be a genuinely good person.

I loved this interview. Stephen you are so good at getting people to reveal their true selves. It makes all of your interviews so engaging. I’m a new fan of Rebel after watching this and can’t wait to watch her films and read her book. I’ve seen little snippets over the years but never actually watched anything. It’ll be nice now following her through her career after this lovely interview.

Great interview. Was wonderful to see just how intelligent you are Rebel. I do believe the best comedy comes from those with a great mind.
Can't wait to see you win an Oscar or it's equivalent.
As a fellow Aussie woman. That family dynamic was all too common, great to see you healing that generational trauma for your little miracle girl. Congrats xx

Rebel! Gees I loved learning about you. I’ve always liked you and a few years ago a viewer from the US commented on my channel that her and her husband like to watch me because I remind them of Rebel Wilson and I felt like that was such a cool compliment. It kind of validated my personality a bit 🤍. And it made me think “ok, it’s ok to be myself”. Rather than be like others in my niche.
Your Dad listening to those tapes might not have helped him, but him doing that and having those tapes sounds like it changed you. It’s kind of cool if he couldn’t give you much else that was a nice gift.
In I’ll keep listening now …

I feel like I learned a lot about myself by listening to Rebel speak about her life experiences. She has such a grounded, healed, beautiful perspective on life and on difficult emotions. I feel myself really inspired to live a more full and goal-oriented life after spending just this short amount of time with her.

So impressed with Rebel in so many different ways, what GEM of a woman, unique, self-aware, hard-working, talented, full of integrity, strong positive attitude, so much tenacity, self-driven & very brave. She's also really likeable very attractive human being. From the UK we applaud you, I hope you get the Oscar !🎉🎉
