Aurelio Voltaire - Hallelujah - World Premiere Song

- This is a cover of a song by Leonard Cohen called "Hallelujah." I've loved this song for years and lately I've found myself singing it quite a lot at karaoke. Most importantly, after years of admiring this song, I finally had a moment when I completely understood the lyrics. I don't generally do covers, but when a song comes along that so precisely corresponds with what I'm feeling, well... a cover is born. No one will ever top Mr. Cohen's version, but this homage does come straight from the heart. I hope you enjoy it!
LYRICS:
(Most of them are the original lyrics. On some lines I've made minor changes, more just in the moment than consciously)
I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you to a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
There was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Maybe there’s a God above
But all I’ve ever learned from love
Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you
It’s not a cry you can hear at night
It’s not somebody who's seen the light
It’s a cold and it’s a broken Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
I gave you all, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
I'm sorry that it all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah - Hudba
is there seriously no comments about his hair. it looks badass!
I've seen a few, but he cut it a couple months ago ._. it's just been that long since he's uploaded anything
maybe because not only his hair looks badass
I maybe 3 years late, but it was cut when he was tied to a kitchen chair.
Well... If there's none... I noticed. It's good. He always seems to know what he's doing with his look. The song is nice too, LOL
I love how powerful his voice is. I usually hate when people do this kind of thing. But... damn, I'm on the brink of tears.
+Everett Logan Forget 'brink of tears', man. I wept in public when he played it live in Birmingham this year, and I'm bawling now listening to it at home. I don't know what kind of power there is behind this song, but his voice certainly lends to it.
To be honest I think it’s mainly to be able to hear him over the guitar lol
Absolutely gorgeous. You've got an incredible voice :')
So do you miss Macabre ;> But i mean i agree he does have a lovely voice
So much emotion in those eyes and voice.
YES! JUST YES!
Junito Rios
Love you to babe
He'd be proud of this cover. RIP Leonard Cohen
Cheers Voltaire
Voltaire gives me chills when he sings hes so good
I just got new headphones. Couldn't imagine a better way to test them out. :D 3
I've been asking for years for someone to come out with a karaoke version of this song, I love Voltaire's take on it and I love it's complete with all the verses...
7 AM, two boxes of wine and 'Hallelujah'. To baffled kings and girls worth it
Can't believe I never knew this cover existed. It's a damn good one, too.
That... was... BEAUTIFUL!!! 😭😭😭😭
Best ever version heart felt fn awesome Gorgeous song. It brought tears to my eyes. God bless you Voltaire
This should seriously go on your next album or released as a single or something. I would pay, like, all the money for this song
it will indeed be on Heart Shaped Wound.... my next album.
+The Lair of Voltaire seriously? That's awesome! I can't wait!
+The Lair of Voltaire yaaaaaaas
+Dunga I can't speak for Voltaire, but based on his track record when it comes to releasing albums and the fact Raised By Bats has been out for over 2 years now, I'd say later this year.
He announced in the nooseletter that this cover will be in his new album "heart shaped wound", which is coming out in september this year
I heard him play this at Elysium the other night. I normally ignore this song assuming it is religious, but listening then I realized the religious symbology is only to help convey the message about the lamenting over the singer's love relationship being at the point of broken or dying. Voltaire's addition and modification of the final verse to recognize his own contributing fault is especially powerful to me.
You made me cry... Thank you so much!
I never really cared about this song when performed by many different artists - rock bands or classical tenors alike... but when You sing it, I have tears in my eyes... Outstanding, emotional vocal performance!
I got chills...and almost cried

the power of music is made clear to all by Voltaire
Damn Bro ; I love your Music God bless you
I was half way through and thought "Did he fall off a roof, and land on his head? This is SO abnormal for him". And than I read the description. Really great cover.
An extremely touching rendition of a beautiful song! Moved beyond words...
The feels man, the feels.
Let me first say that Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen is my absolute favorite song. Every cover I've heard of it I've hated with a passion. This one I really like. It was extremely well done.
I'm seriously jealous of musicians. How they can play this song and not breakdown into heaving piles of blithering tears and snotty noses. I can hardly make it thru 3 verses before my eyes well up and I crumble into a heaving sad lump. Leonard Cohen was so much more than a composer and musician. His voice echoes thru walls of time from before his birth and beyond the demise of this world. Thank you for living this performance for everyone. It was simple and exquisite.
one of my fave songs. Cohen is brilliant. thank you
Awesome. Not even Orville could dislike this.
Uncle Volty is in tears guys!! This song...nice....`~`
Whenever I get the urge to sing a song, it's most often this one. I'm so happy you made a cover of it :')

Love the flashing jack-o'-lantern. And the guitar. And the necklace. And the shirt. And the hair. And the mustache. And the beard. And the voice!!!

Seriously one of the most beautiful covers of this song I have ever heard.
!!!!!! I used to sing this to my daughter as a Lullaby, I used to sing this song when I was busking in Flagstaff when I had nothing but my voice. And you sing it and make it so much more beautiful I love your voice. Thank you. Shut up I'm not crying you're crying

I'm so happy you played this in Seattle. All of us singing together almost brought me to tears. It was so surreal. ♥️♥️♥️
I love your voice, not just the way you sound, I see you Mr. Voltaire, I see you.
In darkness I came here before
I heard your song with a tear so small
It rolls down my cheek, thought I knew you
I've seen you sing on stages black
and wait for you to come on back
It's a cold and it's a broken heart Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
Hallelujah, Hallelujah
This song always used to make me cry, but somewhere in the last few years it lost that for me, I'm so glad to have found it again here. Sounds odd but I really needed to cry today. Thanks Voltaire
You probably won't see this because it's so long ago, but this is beautiful.

Voltaire meets Leonard Cohen. Literally my two favorite artists! I have you guys in the same playlist often! Great cover man! Keep up all your awesome work!
I love this song and i love that you sung it sir Voltaire.
So beautiful
I feel like hallelujah is the perfect song for people to do a cover of because it works so well as a canvas for that artists individual tone and voice to shine through the song. Voltaire, I love this version because of how your voice is so powerful and it carries so much emotion with it. Thank you
It's so beautiful. I'm crying
The best version of this song I've ever heard. You can hear all the emotions in your amazing voice. The more I listen to your cover the more powerful it gets each time
To this day, a remarkable rendition of an American classic. Thank you for this.
Mind Blown... thank you Maestro for that... it's rare to hear the extra verses to this song...
