    Bark river is my favorite knife company, I have been collecting them for years and have eighteen. I go camping and use all my knives I don’t ever get a knife to just hang on the wall but I take good care of all my knifes, I find that Bark River knifes hold up great. I enjoyed your video and I like how you guys have a fun time. Thank You for a great video.

    The welt is a Leather strip used as a spacer To protect the stitched seams, not wet forming Which is totally different

    I really bit hard on BRK, I was hooked on being able to pick my handles and by the end of 2019 I had over 125 of them. That is a lot of money my friend. It all came to a close over a run of poorly finished knives coming out of Michigan and customer service problems. It seems to me BRK has developed a marketing strategy that says; we will ship defective knives and if you don't like them you can send them back and we will fix it. For all the money you spend they should get it right the first time.

    Sorry to be nit picky but I need to correct some items. First in the Kalahari Camp ii , the k Ife actual goes into the sheath more than just the blade. I would say maybe half the handle. Secondly I may be mistaken but I believe all bark river knife leather sheaths have welts. Welts are the extra price of leather between the 2 outside pieces. You may be talking about wet forming as apposed to welting .

    • @SMKWcom
      @SMKWcom  Před 5 lety

      I'll have to look back at the video on the Kalahari, we may not just have put it in far enough. As for a welted sheath. A welted sheath is the result of wet-forming. It creates a "welt" in the leather that is in the form of part of the knife's handle. Think of it like a "welt" on your skin after you're smacked hard with something. It's basically a blister that stays in the sheath after wet-forming on the knife (or other object to be held). Have a great day.

      @TheBushape Před 4 lety +1

      @@SMKWcom You are mistaken about what a welt is on a knife sheath. The welt is the strip of leather between the two outer pieces that prevent the knife from cutting the stitches.

    • @Heeman5
      @Heeman5 Před rokem

      @@TheBushapeyou are correct. The perimeter (welt) of the sheath has a triple layer of leather.

    Bought my first knife when I got into the service in 1990 from SMKW back before the internet and out of a paper catalog. Still have it. Good price then, now it seems I can always find better prices than SMKW on the web. I have never found a cheaper price from SMKW on any knife I searched for. What happened?

    • @lyman135
      @lyman135 Před 3 lety

      Is it a requirement that they always have to be the absolute cheapest, you cheapskate? Obviously a brick and mortar store has more costs than strictly online stores so can't sell as cheap, but they offer other advantages.

    I would love one but the price puts me off, I had a hand made knife here in the UK by "chy rose knives" with RWL 34 steel and a five-millimetre-thick full tang blade at a Rockwell of 62 with Thuya burl scales for less and it took three weeks to make, so I got a better knife cheaper than a bark river, that does not mean that I do not respect the Quality, I just think the cost is too much for me.

    Dude, the blade is not one-twentieth of an inch. It’s 20 one-hundredths. That’s one-fifth of an inch. One twentieth of an inch is 5 one-hundredths of an inch, four times skinnier or one-fourth as thick 20 one-hundredths.
