Hi Dear. I will join Uni Melb in January for Masters and will come with family. With the rental crisis and all , need ur suggestions. Should i opt for suburbs thats a bit far such as Dandenong, noble park as these are a but cheap and with 1 hr ride to uni. Please these areas have a bit cheaper housing. please share your suggestion

Hi, it depends on your priorities. If you are okay with traveling that much for at least 3 days a week, then you can surely look for places an hour away.
I know people who travel 1.5 hours almost daily. Again, it depends on you. Since I have only lived in the city, I don't have personal experience with it.
My suggestion is to book temporary accommodation and see how you fare. What are you using to look for houses?

@@therealeditrix checking mainly in realstate . As i don't have any rental history, very worried how the whole rental thing will hit me after i land. Moreover, with a baby, it will be very difficult to find shared accommodation.

@@HimsZ That is true. With the current crisis, not having a rental history hurts. My friends who have a history are still struggling to find a place.
I would suggest checking Facebook groups for the areas you are looking for houses in. A lot of people post their places in the groups, along with sharing and subletting options.
You can post about your situation too and the residents of the area might have suggestions or references.
