I had a 30.06 Savage that was a tack driver. Those triggers are sweet for a factory trigger and the guns are more accurate than most people. You can take the money you save and buy an amazing piece of glass on top and slap a solid bipod under it. There are also some pretty sweet stocks out there for them too. It could be the perfect next project for you while getting your foot in the long range door right out the gate.

Savage bolt is definitely a fantastic starter, good quality might not ever have to upgrade. They have several models to with adjustable trigger an but stock length, Tons of caliber options also. 6.5 Creedmoor good option 300wm or 7mm is also a option if u tryin to reach out.

My friend has a savage 110 chambered in 30-06. Don’t have a comparison point either other rifles in the same caliber but it was accurate for sure

For the Ak platform you’ll always lose zero on the dust covers try the ak scope mounts that’s mounted to the side of the Ak its it’s stationary and once it’s in it’s in no moving it and dust cover can be removed with it on

10:40 308 will have more muzzle energy on average by 100-150ftlbs but the 270 is significantly faster, with long high BC .270 projectiles 270 can absolutely put more energy on target a couple hundred yards down range. Remember muzzle energy is only part of the power equation, what really matters is conserved energy that's placed on target and that's where 270 outshines 308.

GHG, grab the Savage bolt action and change out the furniture later. Take a look at the 300 win mag, or 7mm rem mag. You'll be good out to a mile easily.

Yo if you want accuracy go with 1 of the 6mm or 6.5 creedmoor… stick with a Remington 700 short action platform. It will give you the option to get into long range competitions.
Depending on if you want to upgrade your new sniper rifle. In the future.
I would check out the Remington 700 in 308
There is a lot of aftermarket upgrades for it.
The US military used the Remington 700 in 308 for many years look up the M24 variants of the Remington 700 308. They are awesome.
Remington is not what it used to be, no reason to choose Remington over something like a tikka. Too many options to settle for something so bad.

The M24 is a proven sniper platform.
Of course he can go with something that cost four times more. Or he could use it as a jumping off point. That he can upgrade as he feels necessary. Ammunition and training is more important than buying an expensive rifle. That you can't afford to put ammunition and training into. For someone who is just getting into long range shooting. And may not like it. To have a $4,000 rifle sitting in the corner of the closet for years. He'd be better off to start out with a less expensive platform. Just my opinion. I enjoy the content and look forward to seeing more long range shooting.

30-06 is just fine for long distance shooting and that rifle you have is fine as well yea id probably upgrade your scope but that's about it getting a 308,270 or any other round won't increase your long range shooting abilities

Doesn't look like the dust cover, looks like it could be the picatinny screws may have come loose, I would see if that's where the wobble comes from and if so, loctite the screws down and see if it holds zero

If you go bolt gun don't go any less than a Howa 1500, weatherby vanguard, Browning x bolt or other guns with sub or half m.o.a. guarantee I also like 308 but it's cause I never fell into the 6.5 creedmoor hype I don't hate the cartridge just stuck with my 30 caliber cartridges I had first
They got chassis and things like that for the bolt actions if you do the jobs right!!!
