Something I forgot to mention regarding Khamzat Chimaev vs Kamaru Usman:
It's absolutely baffling to me that this was a no. 1 contender fight. No. 2 ranked Dricus Du Plessis should 100 percent be next in line to challenge Sean Strickland for the UFC middleweight title.
Just because he wasn't ready to take the Adesanya fight on TWO MONTHS notice following a victory over former champion Robert Whittaker, a victory in which he knocked Whittaker out, and a fight in which he was a MASSIVE underdog going into. That was just as big of an upset as Strickland's over Adesanya, and it was more impressive than what Khamzat did to Kamaru yesterday.
Khamzat Chimaev fought a welterweight in the middleweight division, whereas Du Plessis literally finished the guy that had been the clear no. 1 contender for four years following a dominant first round against him.
Dricus is 20-2 as a pro, 6-0 in the UFC with five finishes, and he's a two-division champion outside the UFC. What's more, Du Plessis boasts a win over the last guy to defeat him; he's literally 16-1 over his last 17 (15 finishes) with a knockout win over that lone loss.
Khamzat broke his hand yesterday; give him the time to recover and give Du Plessis his shot!
