hiiiii i'm louis, the writer n director of CALVING. it's my first short film - here if anyone has any Qs or just wants to shout at me
Appreciate
No question, but congrats on getting featured. That must be exciting.
Could you explain the point of this film ? And the perspective of the ending?
Where did the idea for this come from? It's so bizarre.
Hi Louis. Good job and thanks for sharing. 🇧🇷
What did the mama cow say to their calf when she caught it staying up late?
Hay, it's pasture bedtime!
Hahaha good one 😂😂😂😂 can't leave this empty that made me crease up. 24 people liked it and no comment. Lol I'm howling like a wolf here 5:01
😂😂😂😂😂
Here's my analysis. The writer said it had to do with English involvement in Ireland and how what people are taught about in England may be harmful to former colonies.
My take is that this English vet swings through this Irish area every couple of years using procedures from England. No, I don't think he's banging the cows. The owner of the cow was present for the procedure 5 years earlier.
The film is saying that the use of the "English treatment," metaphorically and literally, in an alien culture and in an alien land can result in devastating and unpredictable consequences later on; in this case, the creation of abominations. He realizes the damage he's done, bathes himself in Guinness, and sacrifices himself to the calf as punishment.
can I buy you a pony??
Hm… That makes a lot of sense actually.
I don't get it. I wanted to assume he was banging the cows and a human-cow baby hybrid came out of the mother.
Damn, you’re good!!!! I think….
I am glad that I read this comment before watching the film. Thank you for the brilliant explanation! It all makes sense when I watch it with this in mind.
“Well, can I see it?”
“No, No…..”
“THATS A GREAT IDEA”
😆👏👌
Great writing!!!
Umm... What the fuck?? This was good in many ways, and very intriguing, but what the fuck? I hate it when short films are this good, but are too bizarre to understand what's going on. I don't need to know why the weird stuff is happening, but I do need to understand what the weird stuff is. But we didn't get to see the cow, hear it's screams, and no one actaually said what the vet did that made them into whatever they are. The closest thing we got was that line about serial killers and it made no sense at all. The whole thing made no sense at all.
Right. The guy at the bar telling him about his technique and to stay away from his cows was definitely leading somewhere… but turned a sharp left before we got there. lol
It does.
Bestiality is Evil
Product was deformed calves
The farmer knew
At the end he went at it Again
Is an Evil sickness
Was ABOUT BESTIALITY (zoophilia )
THEY KNEW THATS WHY SARCASTIC
THE PRODUCT OF THAT ACT WAS DEFORMED CALVES
FARMERS KNEW …Man at bar WARNED HIM TO STAY AWAY FROM THEIR COWS
AT THE END HE WENT AT IT AGAIN HE COULDNT HELP IT
IS SICKNESS IS EVIL
exactly
@@christibarrick1768about the Evil abuse of Animals
and the consequences are bad
He can’t help it
Is this an allegory of someone who has committed an awful abusive crime in their past. The calf is how the effects are not just the for abused person but also their future and family and relationships. They perpetrator has tried to forget but the guilt has caught up with them.
Thank you, atleast I have a clue now........🎉🎉🎉❤😊
Seriously? Are you sure? I thought it was just about a guy who has a fetish! I mean “to each his own” I’ve looked at my fair share of heffas myself lol.
" Your techniques are unorthodox " .
Where did he go to Vet school?
Noise canceling headphones..
OMG UNORTHODOX?????
Nekkid , is for sure😊
I took it as he committed Bestiality (zoophillia)
He was attracted to cows
That’s why the farmer told him to stay away from his Farm or Animals and he warned him he was being watched!
…he got undressed for that at the end
this is what the creater said in another comment
'as an allegory for the english in Ireland... and how with our education (what I was taught in school in England about Ireland, and thus, in this allegory, the vet's methods), if we don't question it, can be actively harmful to society, and the community'
What did I just watch? What happened please explain?
Yes please
Beastiality
same question
I would if I could. Heh
I think the vet was fucking the cows. Thats why the calf at first was unrecognisable. Because it was half human. And that's why he said "No!" about calling the vet: because he knew. That's why he was being questioned by the po-po
Well im officially confused.....
so am I...🤣
Vet was fucking the cows. The calf at the start was his hybrid child. Watch again
We should all try harder to focus, in the future.
@@Itsyrm8
I dont think there's enough focus in the world for THIS film!! 🧐😬
Hell yeah Alter! The only good thing about Monday is a new horror movie from y'all!
Alter, I've been watching you all for a long time and I gotta say- y'all make some of the best short horror films ever. I love the casting, the action, the suspense. Everything is just perfect. Please never stop making such amazing stuff
This was very strange and so hard to understand what the film was really all about. The filmmaker explained it below if you scroll down. You have to know history to really understand this. It is an allegory for the English in Ireland and the Vet's method is like a metaphor. Even with him explaining it, I still have no clue, lol.
So, I looked into it. After the English Revolution brought Cromwell and his parliamentary forces to power, he sent armies to crush resistance in Ireland with extreme brutality. In whole area, the Irish population was exterminated or forced to flee, and Scottish or English protestant colonies were established. Cromwell was responsible for the genocide of many Irish people, he confiscated their land and limited trade etc. It had a lot to do with Religion, Catholic vs Protestants. Is the Vet supposed to be then, Cromwell? I know I may be missing a lot more here. Main point is, the Irish has a long history of despite against the English for what they were put through.
He was attracted to Animals and committed acts of bestiality? That deform calves were the product of it
Farmers knew him
At the end he committed that again
He ofcourse felt Ashamed and guilty but couldn’t helped
As is a sickness
So, a calf born deformed with no legs is the fault of Cromwell, some 400 years earlier? I do not understand one scene of this movie.
@@zethraelofteldrassil3149I don't think the idea of the calf being born with deformity is literal. I think the calf being born with deformity is meant to mean how the Irish felt. They were mistreated and it was almost like ethnic cleansing. It's a symbolism or metaphor of how they were seen as. I could be wrong. The Director would have to chime in here or somewhere who is better with history.
Steven Mackintosh is such a good actor. Excellent at showing intense emotion.
TO HELP ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE WITH UNDERSTANDING THIS MOVIE LOOK UP THE DEFINITION OF CALVING THEN GO BACK & WATCH AGAIN. LISTEN TO WHAT'S BEING SAID.
THIS MOVIE IS BRILLIANT & VERY SMARTLY WRITTEN.
**IT REMINDS ME OF A RECENT CHILD BIRTH CASE IN T THE BABY WAS DECAPITATED IN THE VAGINAL CANAL WHILE THE DOCTOR WAS SO CALLED ASSISTING.
It’s not enough js
i think most people know what calving is...
the create said 'as an allegory for the english in Ireland... and how with our education (what I was taught in school in England about Ireland, and thus, in this allegory, the vet's methods), if we don't question it, can be actively harmful to society, and the community'
I am a simpleton and the only thing "horror" in this short is the ear bleeding loud sound.
No they need to turn it up more I could still kinda hear them talking 😂
This feels like something Junji Ito would write. Needless to say, I loved it! Great work!
BE WARNED: this is one of those never-show-monster monster flicks that try to convince you that the absolutely nothing that they deliver creatively is a Deep Mystery rather than absolutely nothing.
They're giving me HUGE SCP vibes
If you love films that require a google search to understand, I'm afraid that won't even help here.
Lmao 😂
P.S. Just saw analysis below. Sounds about right. Bravo. Well done. Quite unsettling
very horrific. Great job.
I have no clue what went on most of the time but the actors, direction and production were great! 😅
im currently struggling to watch this because there's insanely loud construction directly next to my house everyone please pray for me
This made no sense in any way plz Alter EXPLAIN 😭😭😭
This was cool but I’m so confused… what exactly is his fault and WTF happened at the end? 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I am asking the same question
I have no clue what that was about
Zophillia bestiality
He abused Cow and product was the deformed calves
The farmers knew and told him to stay away
He at the end went again as is a sickness(evil)
Watch it Again you’ll see it
Well that was satisfying horrific, and the great work by Steven Mackintosh was an added bonus. I'm glad that we never saw the calf as it was unnecessary...whatever each of us was imagining was suitably horrific. I know I wouldn't have wanted to see what I had in my head. The ending was almost unbearable to listen to, it gave me chills. Definitely 10/10...now on my list of favourite horror shorts.
+1
Steven Mackintosh…recognized him from Underworld. Nice.
From America oh got it
Bravo,scary and creepy!Thanks!💯💥💫👍!
Very nice work. I'd love to see it expanded upon into a full length film.
The mother of the calving was his product five years ago
Love your short films
Sooooo that animal birth to a kind of monster? And at the end, he sacrifice himself to that monster or somethinf? I'm so confused bro
Loved this haha, and I dont need any explanation. Happy to let it be ambiguous.
Amazing! 😊
I dont understand. They didnt call a vet so how is it this vets fault? And what are they talk8ng about, serial killer of baby cows?
The woman said that it was happening to calves all over and the old men seemed to blame it on the vet, whatever "it" was. Then there was that droning which didnt sound like a screaming calf at all. Just weird.
Wait.....don't end....I want to see what all the fuss is about....
That was fxcking SICK....
someone should explain this seems to be going over a lot of heads
What is going on.....can someone explain?
I didn’t understand the ending. 😮
If you watched this and didn't get it... cosmic / lovecraftian horror may not be for you
Wait a minute, this isn't the hoof gp...
Whelp......the ending left me scratching me head.....huh??? smh
Can u please tell me what happened to the guy at the end thanks
My mom who has a degree in art criticism says it is about going vegan in a rural area.
The bad cop from "Luther". What a duck.
Then you have Americans like me who can barely tell the difference between an English or Irish accent 😂
I like it, but it’s a little confusing, but I like it.
Was the guy who played the vet also in Coronation Street once upon a time?
Edit: He was in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. That's where i have seen him before.
I don’t understand how it can be his fault?
Did you watch the end? Pouring galllons of oil on himself and " who knows what happens next
It’s a metaphor for the blame game…I’m guessing England vs Ireland!?! 🤔
The vet decides to fix it all 🔥🥵🔥

There at 7:10 the tavern guy says his technique of AI, artificial insemination, with his jerking back n forth arm movement is sadistic and ill-treatment, and doesn't want his services..??? Something of that sort,,,the ending w the baby calf is his 'Island of Dr Moreau' creation for his wanton needs...? Just surmising
Well, say, that was a fair share of WTF, if I do say so.
After scrolling through comments: And I see I'm not the only one.
I cried, I vomited too and finally I laughed in despair 😅😢
I loved it but i don't understand it! The acting, the atmosphere, the sound, all amazing but please explain it!
WTF ??? Some suggestions of animal "husbandry" left hanging in the loud siren noise? Was he screaming in agony or ecstacy? Calf has teeth. Bizarre.
I don't need an explanation, it's creepy, leave it to the imagination. Good twelve minutes.
Watching from Egypt 🇪🇬
Mabie a synopsis before showing the film? I didn't understand it at all.
The male cow had his way with him
WTF why😂😂
Is that Winston from my favorite movie???
Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels...what a masterpiece!!
no he wasn't in Endgame
This isn't horror. It's suspense. I found it moderately interesting and quite well-acted, with dialogue too sparse to be decoded into any symbolic meaning and a disappointing failure to deliver on the promise it makes to reveal the monster. Disappointment is, after all, the child of expectation, and this film's classification as "horror" is what created it.
Jesus.
That was fucking weird.
Is this the retelling of the Minotaur?
I finally get it, I don't get it

very nice story.really love it ............louis sir
Amazing work.

Hello there
The Calvening
Uh, I'm just too lost, doesn't understand a thing.
Can someone please explain i'm so lost 😭
I don't quite understand. What did this cow look like? Human with a cow body or a human with a cow head
Well-shot and acted but, alas, all in the service of... well... cowshite.
Whatsoever, no Being can make noise 24/7. Not even 24/2.
I dont understand. They didnt call a vet so how is it this vets fault? And what are they talk8ng about, serial killer of baby cows.
Pongan subtítulos porfi!❤😊
From the comments I can see this movie makes no sense which is the kind I cant stand so I wont bother to watch it.Why do people do this?
That u-turn scene had me giggling 😆😆
.........well alrighty then.
🖤👍
What is the moral of film story?.,
I am totally lost
dont just let things go unquestioned just because a person supposedly knows what they are doing
@@nadia4067 this movie director totally waste,no ideas how to understand even a unknowlege person seeing this videos, keep your shut like mind

Engaging af but I’m lost as to what’s going on.
11:10 What?
🤘😎😇🙂👍
Great acting, but obtuse or what? No idea what the ending was about.
This was crazy. I loved it. But I need more to understand. Will the real director please show up? The one in the comments stating he is…pretty sure is not.
🫡
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the acting and the cinematography, and even the mystery throughout. But it makes zero sense. None.
I think they were talking about how the vet was there treating the cows 5 years ago and when he was treating the cows he had intercourse with the mom cow so they called him 5 years later and the mom cow had a baby with the vet and the baby cow is deformed like they said it has no limbs and keeps bleeding and screaming but is not dying, so they called the same vet to come back and they said it was all his fault about how the baby cow was born so he went back and at the end of the film he had intercourse with the cow again like how you see him getting naked and pours beer on himself
@@galeallen8955 no its not that. its a lot more simple. its about not letting things go questioned just because a person supposedly knows what they are doing. and something to do with British rule over countries. if you go to the top comments of the create they explain it better
Could of done without
"horror"
Huh?
It’s basically a pro-Irish, anti-English allegory but doesn’t really achieve that very lucidly.
11 wasted minutes watching an attempt of extraction of terror, suspense of this ridiculous premise.
😈
POV of a narcissist:
This was a complete waste of time. One of the more boring and stupid movies on Alter. Most of the shorts are decent to very good. This one was complete trash 🗑️
