This was moving. I feel for those affected by escapism and self medicating, he's right everyone does it so you can't judge everyone, you don't always know another man's struggle.
Best way I've ever heard anybody refer to addiction. Most people think people who use drugs for escapism are happy doing it. It's a disease that some are just weaker too. I'm almost 1 year clean of multiple drugs from opiates, benzos and heroin. I can't wait to hit that 1 year mark just to feel I've accomplished something. Escapism and self medicating go hand in hand and it's a shame. It's also a shame how most people view addicts and people suffering with mental health trying to self medicate. The world needs to be more open minded and less judgemental.

This is why mental health is so damn important! If kids were taught emotion regulation, coping skills and real communication skills we wouldn’t have the drug problem we do today regardless of what’s on the market

@@Shaquille796 I went to a rehab facility for 15 days then started going to 12 step meetings when I got out and got a sponsor who helped me work the program. It’s a day at a time process. I had to cut all of my using friends out of my life. If I can get clean and stay clean, anyone can!

Another part that’s crazy about all of this is how weak codeine is compared to other available opioids. And especially when you have to drink so much other crap (promethazine, soda, all the fillers) to get the drug/effect.
People don’t realize that addiction happens with the *regularity* of use. People seem to think that if they don’t get absolutely wasted, that it’s not “that bad” or something, and this in turn makes it easier to decide to do it again. So while the risk of ODing right then and there from your first sip isn’t the same as a hot shot of heroin your first time, but it’s almost MORE sinister because of its subjective appearance (to the user) of not being as dramatic or fucked up, while actually being just as bad, if not worse, in terms of jump starting an addiction

It's actually INCREDIBLY easy to make opium water. Literally boil and crush the poppy seed pods then filter it. I think this is basically what it LOOKS to be in the bottle. I know from recent dental surgery that codeine makes you keep going to sleep. Can't get anything done when you keep going to sleep
We get Co Codamol in the UK. Tablets with 7mg Codine 500 Paracetamol ( Acetominaphen).

Hardest thing with addiction for me was the fact thst one small Yes tramples a thousand big No's. And you're on square 1 again. Stay strong!
Noone can make you stop before you want to, but once you get to the point in your life where you want something else, hold on to that reason and move on to the next thing. Don't stay addicted when it stops being fun any more, and you feel its time to move on to the next phase in your life
You're all the way right. I tried stopping before I really wanted to, went to the clinic, got all setup with Suboxone, and relapsed the next day. Went back to the clinic the next week, completely over it and wanting to stop, got my next Suboxone script. I had cravings still, I thought it wasn't going to go away, wasn't possible, I would always want to do pills. By the 4th or 5th day, the cravings and depression totally went away. It is possible.
A couple of years ago I overdosed, twice, one of the times I was dead for a few minutes. I can't believe I ever got back on them. But I'm clean now, by sheer will.
Having been there, my heart goes out to anyone trapped in the nightmare of opiate addiction. Just know this: getting right is a long process, don't ever stop trying. Once you get off that stuff it's easy, don't use it again.

I had scary experience with codeine, first was when i passed out after drinking a mix of neocodion cough syrup i think i stopped breathing for a bit and i was alone, second was when i extracted from pills i had a very relaxing and euphoric effect all night but i had a very bad comedown when trying to sleep, i had weird closed eyes hallucinations too like a nightmare but awake at the same time, third is after that night, i had very BAD craving for an entire month, i couldn't look at a pharmacy like i was going to loose control and buy codeine. Its been made regulated since a 18 girl died here, so that's better we can't buy it like candy. My addiction is kratom now..
Well instead of planning your next high.. plan to quit if you you are serious about not wanting to do anything.

Any addiction is sad and so difficult to beat and free yourself from. I’ve luckily made some permanent changes after many years but still have my issues with stuff.
It’s tough, very tough and you pretty much need to change your entire lifestyle to break an addiction. Where you go, who you interact with and what you do all have to change. I’d guess most people know they shouldn’t do what they’re doing but can’t commit to that complete change.
For everyone else fighting the battle. Be strong and remember what you’re fighting for!
Addiction is a strange and terrible road. The worst hell is being smart enough to know your addicted but can't escape. The song "learn from this mistake" is how i personally feel sbout addiction.
I admire the eloquence and variety of languages of the two gentlemen at the beginning of the video.
Man this is breaking my heart. One of my closest friends recently started drinking lean and I begged him not to and offered help and recovery options and he refused. I pray to God that 1- he wakes up tomorrow and 2- when he does, that he sees it’s a huge ass mistake. I love that guy.

What he described honestly sounded more like a drug induced/provoked sleep disorder or illness/disease. Not a real heart attack. I’ve experienced this 500 times, none of which were heart attacks. I don’t think I’d be alive if they were! But I get it.
If you believe something is a heart attack, you will react like your life depends on it. He could’ve had a heart attack tho, but very doubtful this isn’t a rare thing for high intensity amounts of opioids. It’s quite common, for those with other problems in their lives. Both of us could be wrong tho. Both just anecdotal experiences and evidence.

Try to get help man, people have been in worse places and got out of it, and so can you.
Worst case scanario you can do it on your own plan out your habbit and push yourself to lower it step by step, cold turkey can work for some but I asume you have already tried and failed.
Accept failing, but dont give up, consider the stumble as part of the process its all a self-disciplin training.
I dont know how functional you are or active you are, but try to keep yourself occupied as much as possible.
In time when you feel ready you should have a (more)honest conversation with your doctor, or atleast just a conversation to get some other medication that works and isent as addictive or atleast not as enjoyeble to use recreationally.
You might wanna figure out what exacly it is about the drug that is drawing you to it if you havent, it could be useful for you to know, as some people struggle with mental health issues, other with social issues or other type of problems.

I know so many young guys that have died in their sleep off of this. It put a lot of weight on them too before their heart gives up.

As some one who has lost his younger sister to methadone. Who sold and took pain pills after, I can say they’ll take everything from you. It took the prospect of spending a couple years in prison to figure it out. I would have never quit on my own if I didn’t go to rehab and get out of that environment. Man I used to sip, but I am very resilient to addiction.
I also never drank a lot. The most I did was a 2, because like Xanax… you can sleep and never wake up. Also I was usually on a bar or two, alongside some shots.
My x-wife multi-millionaire heiress was an addict... Hard core addict. But I was paper chasing and on a different level. She downed a whole bottle of demerol while I was out of town on business... I said "Damn! That's wacked.. glad you're still alive!" BUT what I really ment was
"Damn! I shouldn't have been gone so I could have stopped you!" Looking back your vision is 20/20... What addicts DON'T KNOW, is that if you die then LOOKING BACK IS ALL THAT PEOPLE HAVE... Don't leave your loved ones with more questions than answers... They may never STOP LOOKING BACK for answers AND IT MESSES PEOPLE UP. I still LOOK BACK AS TO JUST WHAT I COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY.. But addiction is a puzzle NOBODY CAN SOLVE... REAL TALK

This breaks me heart. It breaks my heart seeing him out here trying to inform people about the dangers of addiction only to lose his own life to it. Why do we not have a better way of handling substance abuse in this country? Or any country? It isn’t 1950 any more, we understand this is a brain disease, let’s take care of this now.
