I like using 550 paracord. Best stuff imo. Cut to length. Burn ends and smooth to fit through eyelets. Can buy huge roll for cheap

Historically, I've not cared for leather laces, as I've had them snap, sometimes in less than a few months! I must have been getting poor quality laces, as when I got my first pair of JK's (Bison Honey Superduty) they came with leather laces and I really like them! No snapping in the 9+ months I've had them...and they still seem very strong.
Good to hear! That's my experience with leather laces as a kid, so I've avoided them since. I'm willing to give them another shot on my JK's though! Like you, I definitely like the look of them with the leather laces! Much more than I would have expected.
I think it's abrasive dust on the nylon laces that wears out the eyelets, rather than the nylon itself. The weave of nylon easily captures dirt/rock dust which is often harder than brass.
I like waxed kevlar laces. The thicker/stickier bowstring wax is perfect for waxing laces.

Funnily enough, I was kinda bummed when I looked in the box for my brand new bison Forefronts I just received and saw the leather laces. I have no reason to dislike them other than the fact I vividly remember as a kid, I had leather laces on a pair of boots and they snapped and I was "SOL" for the rest of the day for that one shoe just dragging and clonking my heel around. I think I was probably just mad I couldn't run around the rest of the day like I wanted to because of the inconvenience. But this video definitely put me at ease with you mentioning "quality" leather laces. It's unlikely the ones I had on whatever shoes I had were of any significant quality, or maybe they did have one of those imperfections you mentioned. I haven't had a set of leather laces since that incident, so I'll be interested to see how these hold up. I will say, it adds a slightly more upscale appeal to an already incredibly amazing boot!
survival cord works incredible for laces .ive been using the same shoelaces for 5 years !
As a welder leather 100%. I had a issue once when I had to get cheap ones from a box store. like you said there were imperfections that made them weak. I have never had that issue with a quality pair of laces though.
I agree. I buy my leather laces from a local leather goods shop who cut them from quality leather right there on site. I slather them with leather conditioner when they are new to soften and preserve them, and they hold up awesome and look great. I also like that that have a little stretch to them, so they self adjust as you wear them.

Not sure why. I rock obenauf laces with my JK’s. I like those laces though!

I like using lock laces (nylon +elastic material), they can be tied tight but are flexible enough to adapt to the shape of feet as it expands through the day. Used one for 2 years and it barely had any part of the fabric having any concerning wear. After using them I got less feet pain than common nylon laces. The downside is that is harder to remove them from the boot so I leave extra cord so I don't have to remove them
Why not cotton laces then? They are not stiff and they don't burn fast.
Obenauf's waxed are my favorite. Have to rinse/wipe off the excess wax with hot water, but after that, they're perfect. I've found that 90" fits 10" tall boots perfectly. Not a fan of leather laces, I've snapped them a couple times trying to snug them up on new boots, major PITA since no stores stock 90" laces, and 72" ones barely fit 10" boots.
I'm a fan of Obenauf's as well. When I got my honey bisons, I nearly installed a pair of Obenauf's but figured I'd give the leather a try. I've been happy with the leather on the JK's. On my other boots, I really like the Obenauf's laces.
I’ve had all 3 pairs of leather laces I’ve tried snap like tissue paper the first time I laced up. Am I doing something wrong?
Where are you getting them from? Rawhide ones are really good
I like the brown and gold laces … they are definitely man-made, but from what I don’t know. They feel like the same fiber that good rope is made from

Kevlar for actual wear.
I've never lost an eye, but busted/lost hooks, that's why I have mine made up as all eyes.
I only use leather laces the nylon laces will wear out you’re eyelets. The leather laces you sent with my boots are still going after a year I wear my boots 5 days a week.

I don't get it. my leather laces break after a couple months if I'm lucky. I've had them break after less than a week. I've had them from whites, Nicks, and wesco. I must lace up tighter than most. Its nylon for me...

MOST important is the nylon doesn't stretch and over time will stretch your boots where as the leather stretches and won't deform your boots.
has anyone ever had the problem of leather laces swelling/shrinking around the knot under wet conditions. This has caused untying the knot to become a frustrating pain !? how can I address this?
Lookup loggers knot, or change knot. There are a ton of knots that are quick release.
Great solution/idea. I have the problem of my top eyelet being too narrow to accommodate a double pass through. Even in my PNW heritage boots they neglect the heritage spec (they did this for a reason back then). wish they would use a large diameter grommet on the top
