    I’m a Jeff Gordon fan and irks me that Brian France not only put him in to patronize him, but exposed one of the MANY major flaws with the Chase. Also, it showed how bad behavior like Spingate could destroy the integrity of racing

    Watch any other interviews. You can straight up tell this fool he’s lying.
    He got caught off guard with those questions...He didn’t expect to be I asked that question or at least not that blunt and straightforward of a question. You can see in his eyes and hear it in his voice, and how he’s just rambling. That’s shameful. I wouldBet my life on that.

      They never won another race after this. NAPA, the only sponsor that was a line full-season sponsor for all 36 races, left MWR and went to an up and coming Chase Elliott.

    Excellent vid!
    Another interesting consequence of this is the current chase/playoff format.
    It’s probably no coincidence that the format they announced after the ‘13 season simplified how you get in (just win a race). All the drivers involved/affected in spingate would’ve already been locked in, and funny enough, Bowyer would’ve been the guy in the dangerous spot.

    This race could've gone down as one of the greatest in NASCAR history had Spingate never happened

This isn't a legal system, They don't have to have end-all-be-all conclusive proof of anything, because that would involve literally being inside of Clint Bowyer's head or hearing someone over the radio tell him to spin out on purpose.
      That's just not the real world, and we can't let people get away with obvious bullshit just because others like to set the burden of proof to someone literally admitting to what they did.

    I think Logano was allowed in because the scheming to swap places with Penske and front row was pretty minor. Besides that, almost all of his benefit came as an ancillary boost from MWR shenanigans. I think it makes sense that NASCAR cut him a break

    Honestly the main thing that made this turn from a conspiracy into reality was Dale Jr's comments. When I saw this the first time I thought it looked off but that's it. But once Jr said that I knew something was wrong here and was hoping NASCAR would look into it and they did.

    SPINGATE was the death sentence for MWR and Bowyer's aspirations to be champion. After that, the team did not win a race again and lost their two main sponsors NAPA and Aaron's and two years later had to close their doors.

      The 56 team shut down after the season because of NAPA’s departure. NAPA at the time was the last full-season sponsor for a team. They moved over to a young Chase Elliott who was driving a Hendrick truck entry owned by Turner Scott Motorsports.

    The biggest impact of Spingate that isn't talked about enough is the fact that it essentially created the modern elimination playoff system. Likely, the whole thing was made up as a way to disincentivize teams from pulling a Spingate-esque move by just locking drivers in when they won a race.

    Bowyer is a terrible liar. He gave like 3 different reasons for why he spun out...none of them being "the rear broke loose when I got back into the gas". That's all he would have had to say, and it would be case closed. No way to prove him wrong. But he gives some incredibly nervous ramble about flat tires and a magical bump from Jr...who was several feet behind him... Oh, and also the code words being spoken to him over the radio. Hard to ramble your way out of that one.

    Some constructive criticism. As someone who knows nothing about Nascar the first 6min confused me more than anything, since I have no idea who the drivers are, I have no idea who the teams are, I have no idea what the chase is or what chase berths (?) are.
    Those were all names, that surely will come up again, but I didn't see their car (or did I?), I didn't see their face and I didn't memorize any of the names of team or driver. Something like the current standings at that point, so I could follow you and read along the names of the drivers would've probably helped immensely.
