      I've literally spent every night for an entire week trying to tune a set of stabs with little success. They are the most infuriating things, yet when I watch some famous streamers do stabs they often just chuck some 205g0 on the wires and it sounds perfect, no special mods or anything. I've never experienced it that easy in the 2 years I've been doing keyboards... :/

    • @blitzkreep4905
      @blitzkreep4905 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Zamm1n I'm fairly certain that sometimes they just make it seem like they got the stabs done up 100% percent perfect. The holee mod does make a huge difference tho. If you haven't tried it, you really need to give it a go.
      I just built a tofu 60 with holee modded stabs, and by far its one of the best sounding setups I've done so far.

  • @BarbellBinks
    @BarbellBinks Před 3 lety +552

    be warned: holle modding zeal stabs can result in a very mushy break in period due to the reduced space in the stem compared to durock v2s. To accelerate the break in process, I recommend extra time to be spent flattening the bandaid to the stem, and also pre-soaking it with whatever lubricant you are using on the wires (of course, with the bandaid already installed... or else the adhesive won't work)

    • @usqd5785

  • @Fate025
    @Fate025 Před 2 lety +16

    Thank you very much for doing this video on the holee mod. I thought my boards sounded decent before. But after trying it out on all the stabs for 2 of my hotswap boards (NK65 EE and a 60% alu case), my boards sound SO MUCH better! I never knew my boards could make such sounds before, its like unlocking the potential that I never knew existed out of these boards.
    The holee mod removes that annoying metallic ticking sound that is produced when the metal stab wire hits the stabiliser stem when we push down on the key.
    I had thought my quality everglide screw in stabs didn't produce any ticking sound. But upon closer sound comparison with my holee modded stabs. I DID notice a subtle ticking with the screw in stabs that I never really paid attention to before. After holee modding all my everglide screw in stabs, it resulted in the stab keys having a much more muted, more homogeneous sound profile as compared to the other normal keys. When I do a typing test, the entire keyboard sounds smoother, as I can't tell the difference in sound when I press on a spacebar, a shift key or a normal key. The typing sounds and experience has become so much more satisfying, that I'm buying desoldering tools to desolder all my other boards to holee mod all the stabs moving forward.

    Great video!
    For my very loose wire, I needed to also dampened the side to side play inside the housing. So instead of putting the tape inside the housing itself, I wrapped 1 layer of duct tape around each end of the wire, being careful to keep it only 1 layer thick so I can insert the wire back into the housing.

Also I found it easier to cut the bandaid by peeling the cover off, turning it 90 degrees and putting it back on. Just tried on my GK61XS, just in case - it worked flawless - a bit tricky at first but even some clipIn stabs are more than okay. THANKS never tried it before ;D

    Thank you. My Keychron k2v2 75% board has been amazing... except the space bar rattle. It was the only thing that has prevented the board from being perfect.
