This rag features what I call the Dominant rag, in that the V of the key signature is the first main chord of the rag's first strain. It's not unheard of, but it's kind of rare. A good example by Scott Joplin would be his Palm Leaf Rag.

I think the tempo and the speed is good because people can dance to it. When it comes to playing for dancers, I am speaking from many years of experience.

I am always a little sorry that Ragtime seems to be associated mostly with Scott Joplin (although I like his music very much). But, as this lovely piece clearly indicates, there are quite a few other very talented Ragtime composers... Love this piece!

Also, according to the book "Ragtime A Musical And Cultural History" by Edward A. Berlin, there were actually more ragtime songs than instrumental pieces during the decade (1900 to 1910) when ragtime was most popular.

I love george botsford! he's my favourite authentic ragtime composer, well maybe after Joe Lamb. You really interpreted this piece amazingly!

What a great rag! This is the internet at it’s best - experiencing something genuinely new (to me) and loving the playing too. Really charming and well written, great balance but full of interest. Would love to see this piece growing in popularity from the effort you’ve made bringing it to CZcams! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Perfectly played. Ragtime should never being played fast

Unlike the person in California who criticized me for playing "Dill Pickle Rag" by Charles L. Johnson too slowly.

Great, you have a knack for Rag ❤️! My favorite all time is Solace by Scott Joplin. It has the sweetest slow mood and a lovely end. Quite some different and special rag.

I have to learn this piece; thank you again for discovering lesser known composer in this genre too.

Excellent playing as always, though I find it a bit fast. Ragtime is a very relaxed genre. I'd go with something like 60-65 to the quarter note at most with this piece. It gives the left hand stride a little more room to breathe, a little daylight between the notes.

@@PianoScoreVids Almost any ragtime can be played fast. The reason I choose slower tempi is because it allows one of its main features, i.e. syncopation, to stand out more easily from the beat.
