    well done sir, wish to ask if the irrigation system is necessary during the rainy season

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před rokem +1

      No, it's not necessary.
      The essence of the irrigation is to provide water for the crops, which the rain would be doing during the rainy season.

    @Chidav how do you deal with squirrel on my ugu farm

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před 2 lety +1

      We really dont have squirrel attacks on the farm.
      But you can get traps and set on their paths, also, drop some poisoned fruits that they love around the farm.
      You can still spray some repellents on the farm. They do not like the smell of garlic though, so you can get the extract and spray on your farm.

    What is the right management of a commercial ugu farm

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for your question.
      There are several of them.
      For your field to be a commercial field, you have to ensure the right plant population is on the field.
      Then the following have to be done on your field.
      1. Prompt harvesting of your ugu leaves. (Harvesting would be done twice every month or in some cases every 10 days) therefore, proper fertilizer application would b done after every harvest in order to ensure the plant produces optimally.
      2. Ensure there's no weed on the field to compete with your cultivated field.
      3. Fungicide and insecticide application after every harvest to ensure no pest attacks or fungicide attacks (this should be done at least 2 weeks before harvest)
      4. Irrigation of field to ensure it produces all year round.
      5. Proper field observation to ensure that you detect any issue before it becomes a major one.

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před 2 lety

      It's not advisable Sir.
      Ugu is a perennial crop that can grow for 2 to 3 years with good management

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před 2 lety

      So planting it where it would be destroyed just after a few months is not profitable for the Ugu business.

      @UDAZIMARVIS-jp7ws Před 9 měsíci

      You can, it's true that it will be destroyed after that dry season but the profit you make will 2 times rainy season farming.

      No Ugu farmer can claim to have an hybrid seed yet.
      Ugu is majorly cultivated here in this part of the world. And other countries even get their seeds from Nigeria.
      Most of the varieties available are locally gotten

    • @ChidavAgriculturalHub
      @ChidavAgriculturalHub  Před 2 lety +2

      Not at all.
      For commercial purpose, you would need a well populated field. Using spacing of 60cm by 50cm, you would need about 33,333 seeds.
      And you may even go more dense using 50cm by 30cm, 60cm by 30cm.
      From 1 hectare, you can get up to 5,000kg to 10,000 kg
