    I have Nikon Coolpix P1000. I have made numerous attempts to shoot moon video using this cam on a tripod. It is always shaky. It is hard to focus with maximum zoom. How do you stabilize your moon video? Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

    • @MrSuperMole
      @MrSuperMole  Před 3 lety +9

      First, you need to turn off image stabilization.
      Secondly, the tripod must be of good quality. Light and cheap tripods will not protect against vibrations and shaking.
      Third, record the Moon in an open area - not through a window or next to a city building - this will keep the image clear and steady. Undulating city air makes it impossible to obtain a sharp image.

    The real comparison is in photographing the crescent moon in low light of about 30 percent illumination. With the Earth's rotation and moon's movement from East to West you'll be hard pressed to keep a low ISO yet avoid movement blur. It all depends on the size of the sensor. While sensor size does not matter much during Gibbous or Full moon phases (even phone cameras will produce good pictures in decent lighting), try to photograph eclipses of the moon with a small sensor Nikon P1000 vs Newtonian Telescope with an APS-C or full frame camera body and you will see the details difference, especially when you closely crop the photos or when pixel peeping. I'm sure you will see more noise in the P1000 than with a telescope with a larger sensor camera body attached.
