The difference to me is Bonzo was imo a very visceral player vs Peart's very deliberate, technical style. He would literally compose his drum solos on paper! Bonham would Nevah Evah do THAT! Not sayin' one is better than the other.. just different approaches to their playing.

There are 4 historic drum solos to come out of the classic rock period, this one with John Bonham in the song "Moby Dick," Ginger Baker (of Cream) in the song "Toad." Ron Bushy (of Iron Butterfly) in the song "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida," and Michael Shrieve (of Santana) at Woodstock in the song "Soul Sacrifice." I recommend that you listen to each of the others.
    1. For Ginger Baker, you want the live version from the album, Wheels of Fire. It runs 16 minutes.
    2. For Ron Bushy, the full length version of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" on the album of the same name (17 minutes).
    3. For Michael Shrieve you want the long version of the Woodstock video that runs 13 minutes, not the shortened 6 or 9 minute versions.

@@alldayadventures5418 Maybe so, but it lacks the notoriety of the other 4. It also came 3 years after the others...'68, '68, '69, '69. By then most hard rock bands had abandoned the long format numbers with multiple solos.

He was such a powerhouse. At their live shows, sometimes he would extend this solo for half an hour or more. And this is in the middle of an entire show of drumming and then perhaps in a lot of cases it would just be one night on a tour. The guy had crazy stamina but then again they all did.
He was playing the drums with his fingers and hands there for a while but then of course he always has that thunderous kick drum available at any time, which at some point he was doing triplet rolls with in conjunction with the toms. Sometimes he would get so carried away hitting the drums with his hands and he'd cut his fingers on the rims of the drums and he would just keep playing.

'Just a mention: guitarist Jeff Beck has just passed away, RIP.
Jeff goes back to the days where he played with Jimmy Page in the band, The Yardbirds. Page announced his induction into the R&R Hall of Fame.
In fact Jimmy joined Jeff onstage during this concert (i think)at Ronnie Scott's. Friends and fellow musicians. I'm requesting that you'd react to Jeff's song, Freeway Jam from that show. Part of your discovery journey, i hope.

You guys notice how well these albums are engineered.
It seems many of the songs are placed in context to others on most of their albums.
For example, many Led Zeppelin fans would never think of listening to you shook me with that letting it go right into Dazed and Confused.
