  • Restoring your headlights might be one of the easiest cosmetic enhancements you can do on your car. I came across this kit from Cerakote last year and it has been sitting on my shelf for 10 months. We finally tried it out on our Convertible BMW E46 M3 that had faded and yellow plastic lens on the headlights, and I was IMPRESSED! This is not a sponsored video by any means, but the results speak for themselves. The ceramic coating that was included almost felt like a wipe on clear coat that chemically bonded to the lens. Only time will tell, but I have high hopes and will update this video whenever I have anything to report. This kit should work on any type of plastic lens, whether it’s a headlight, fog light, tail light, fender light, maybe even your gauge cluster. The kit used is linked down below, it will make a good stocking stuffer! Thanks for watching!

A big warning: I just did mine yesterday with this kit! Time will tell but the 2000 grit and grey finishing pad straight up destroyed the piss outta the headlights. My headlights were in way better condition before...like x10 better then after the sanding. Then you apply the ceramic coat and looks good, but all the damage is all hidden....yet I guarantee those lens are still screwed hard core under the illusion of ~wet shine wipes of ceramic. This kit does NOT fix your headlights at all...per say. The 3M kit does, as knocks down the grit to extremely fine numbers with alot of sanding...therefore addressing the issue.
Case in point when that ceramic washes off on this kit...I'm pretty sure it'll expose the scratched to hell lens...3M kits knock the lens down to a slightly cloudy appearance before the final coat. These kits the lens are pretty horrible after the sanding, then apply the wet coat. Yes, the results look good, but that could be a fake illusion as pretty sure the ceramic does NOT eat away or dissolve the scratches.

Based on this video, I bought one of these kits and did the resto today on my 2004 BMW e53 (X5). My lights were REALLY bad. Way worse than the one you did. I used all four of the de-oxidation pads and still had plenty of yellow on the last one. The drivers side headlight had noticeably rough and raised oxidation, but after all four of the pads, they were almost completely smooth. After the wet sanding process, both lenses were very smooth and then after the ceramic coating the lenses looked close to brand new. You really don't need to use the 2nd ceramic pad. It is well soaked with the ceramic based liquid so one works perfectly for both lights, which means when the lenses do start clouding again, I'll have the other one to get me through some more time with clarity. Here's hoping this lasts a long time, but living in AZ most likely means it won't. Time will tell.

I am definitely glad I bought the Cerakote kit. I'm hoping they will still look like this a year or more from now. One thing I did notice was that the final stage with the clear coat, I didn't need to use two per headlight. I just used one because they are REALLY soaked with the product. So now I have another one each for later down the road when they need to be sanded and sealed again.

I think that first stuff you put on is a waste of time. Wet sanding will get rid of the yellowing.
I just bought 2000, 3000 and 5000 wet sandpaper and used alcohol to clean the lens after each sanding, all the yellowing came off during the first 2000 grit, even after all this it still looked scratched. But I then put a clear coat for plastic and non yellowing clear coat which filled in the scratches, let dry and 2 more clear coats, turned out great, no more scratches and looked brand new. Plus you even have extra of everything to many more cars for the same price of about $20.00

This method is similar to sanding followed by 2k clearcoat spray and having hazy sanded plastic is part of the deal so that clearcoat can better bite onto the plastic. The difference here is ceramic wipe is used to replace clearcoat and the big question is whether it can last as long and I don't believe it will but only time will tell. The pro is it's easy to re-do if it fades.

My thoughts similar in that if you can use gentle abrasive rubbing compound, mag polish, similar product, the better the result when the ceramic or clear coat degrades.
When it does, you hopefully just gently polish, clean, dry, apply new ceramic coating or other sealant..!
The problem may be how best to remove original failed headlight sealant and/or oxidized plastic without scratching lens into oblivion..?!

@@zahimiibrahim3602 Never ever use 2k on headlights? When the time comes around again which it will to restore headlights again 2k clear is a nightmare to remove😮 Only use certified products that state for car headlights only!!!!

Doesn't last. My headlights are back to yellow in about 8 months.

Worked great but after three months I could tell the yellow was coming back.

if it came back after three months that kit is worse than the old style of color sand buff, good coat of wax, which lasts one to two years

Ebay have better price. Amazon is overrated.

Dude, that kit is a joke and will last only one summer or less.
The best permanent way is sanded and 2K Clear and buff . This will last a last over 7 years.

    Dude you’re so wrong please.
What makes the headlights fade is the degradation of the UV plastic filament overlay.
Unless you remove this overlay and replace it? It’s just going to re-fog up within a couple months - Worse than before.
“Restoring” doesn’t it mean making it simply cosmetically looking better.
“Restoring” means that you actually go in & replace what’s originally been degraded & restore it back to its original performance benchmark.
This & everything else EXCEPT the OEM manufacturing process is just lipstick-on-a-pig.
