  • I've seen many different iconic Lola T70 MK3B's over the years at Spa Francorchamps and especially at Zandvoort. This video is a smörgåsbord of Lola T70 MK3B"s with between 10 or 15 different examples. At only 800kg or 1,764 lbs it's driven by a big 5 liter Chevrolet V8 with 450HP making it a very fast sportscar. Never really a threat to Ferrari, Porsche or Ford it did win the 1969 Daytona 24-hour with Penske Racing. I saw at Spa that there are some Broadley T70's there, these are newly build recreations made exactly like the Lola and are allowed to race in historic races.
    More info on the Broadley:

Notice #85 the white one with red/blue stripes, it looks very similar to Steve Mcqueen's one that was used in his film Le Mans. Back then it was repainted and used as a Porsche 917 clone in a crash:

Without question ... without argument ... The single most beautiful race car to ever grace the 24 hours of Le Man or any other track of that era possibly even to date .. has got to be the Lola T70 MK3 period .. END OF STORY.. no matter what way you look at that car it's the quintessential Gorgeous Muscle of the era !!!!!!!!

LOLA when it absolutely positively has to be. When they say race car it's LOLA.

So did the Lola T70 in coupe form ever win any major race? I was at Le Mans in 1967 and the Lola T70 -Aston-Martin driven by 'Big John' Surtees croaked after about an hour or so. Of course, the open cockpit version was a different story. Again driven by 'Big John' it won the inaugural Can-Am series in 1966

I wonder why only 450 hp out of a Chevy small block? Many tuned street cars have much more... Heat management?

In 1969 they weren’t nearly as reliably as they are today, and they hadn’t quite pulled 500hp out of a 5litre pushrod engine at that stage. Plus they were built as endurance cars.

It's a conservative rating, of a mildly modified 1969 302 cubic inch engine with old mechanical fuel injection, and needing to be reliable and competitive for 4 hours of practice and 24 hours of racing.
