  • Eastern's Rosborough 246 Yarmouth is a four-season outboard-powered boat that could be ideal for a cruising couple. Her single outboard makes her affordable to run. Great Loop anyone?

    VERY nice evaluation. I have loved Rosborough for years now, and this 246 is a great example of a very nice couples' boat.

    So, with rooftop a/c and compost toilet……no thru hull fittings? I like that 👍

    Immediately this looks like a great island hopping boat for places like here in northern Europe.
    As in giving sheltered accommodation for passagers that could use these types of boats to get to work or to the mainland for shopping.
    Here in Ireland, and I think lots of coastal areas around Europe, like Scotland and Scandinavia, there are loads of little and big islands as well as the mainland, where small communities can exist through many generations, even into ancient times. The populations eb and flow over the generations as people leave for somewhere else to live, and new people come in for the island living experience.
    Also islands that have economic value like oil Rigg land bases, lighthouses (before they became automated), small farms, or farms over multiple islands or where an island is part of a larger farm on the mainland. You get the idea.
    I have good memories of island hopping as a little boy. Even though I live well inside the Irish mainland. My father's side of the family come from a coastal farming and fishing community. So adventures on small wooden boats with single outboat engines, and larger boats to explore the Irish coastline, and hopping between islands on larger boats, including small car ferry's between islands, was a thing our family enjoyed during a good few summer holidays.
    I still go island hopping occasionally. But most people just call it taking a boat to whatever island or across from one mainland peninsula to another.

    Nice light feature. Looks great for nighttime boating, when you don't want to blind the skipper AKA boat pilot, from the reflection of the light on the front windscreen, stopping him or her from seeing outside.

    Great review, filing and narration is excellent. Love the Rosborough, but wish it was about 2,000lbs lighter... I really need a big rig to safely pull and launch this..

    I own a '21 Halifax. Eastern seems to still build a good hull/structure altogether, but their engineering and execution of finish installs is TOTALLY INEPT! Wish it weren’t so, but Eastern does not produce a quality product! Here's a test boat without signature midship cleats or even cockpit cleats. Slap it together, looks done!

      @@darthkek1953 If I'm making the Great Loop, I'd rather have a bit of power in reserve, just incase the seas get a bit unpleasant. On the Boat test website, the outboard is listed as a 200hp. So it would stand to reason that a diesel with lower end torque could mount a larger prop, allowing the boat to run more efficiently by running at lower rpms to achieve the same speed. And swells at sea could easily overpower the 200hp engine quite easily.

    • @darthkek1953
      @darthkek1953 Před 2 lety

      @@davidblalock9945 don't forget it's not just HP it's the weight of the boat too. This is a very light boat that will do 30 knots. Adding 50% more power (let alone torquey power) could damage the boat or cause it to lose control.

    I really like the Rosborough boats, though as you say they are so utilitarian inside. I think a lot more wood, even if it was just veneer, throughout, especially in the v-berth, would make an immense difference. There's an older gent who has a YT video showing all his customisations to his boat, and it's really impressive. That said, I'd still take one on the Loop, no question.

      No point spending money and using boat space for fishing capability if the customers don't fish.

    Yes sir, but pedestal installed captain's seat is terrible. Rough ride. One ends up standing and this is bad news for the knees. Believe me I've been here. Now a day there are hydraulicly adjusted seats which can't work on this config.
