This is the first song I ever heard as a child and I fell so in love with it, I played it over and over, a throughout my childhood and teenage years...i have never stopped listening to it for 53 years..
My mom was a classical ballet dancer at the Hamburg State Opera, and this song brings up tears, every time I hear it. It reminds me of my father, a great German professor, who had a mandolin, and a cello. He played them both exquisitely. Every time I hear this I break down into a sobbing mess, because it symbolizes life, being born and dying, and how quickly the time in-between passes.
Now we have a pandemic, and I probably will not see him again, because he is old and living in a closed facility.
I miss him so much, and this beautiful song captures my entire life, raw and emotional, with so many regrets, and lost hopes and dreams, that I can barely stand it. I definitely want this as a funeral song...
Peace on Earth, this song is a little piece of heaven.

They use the very last 40 seconds or so of this piece in the documentary. But... playing back that section of the documentary with the music, I can definitely tell the difference between that performance, which has more strings, and a more stately, voluptuous feel, and this performance, which is light and almost chirpy by comparison. Not bad, but lacking the poignancy that the documentarians wanted to express, as we wondered at the magnificence and magic of the process that brought us, and all life on earth, into being.
