There's so many things about this battle that I just love. The way Kairi's hair slowly fades to Namine's, the building that explodes in the background when Momiji fires an arrow, the little hip-sway thing that Namine does when she launches the first flying blade..so cool. And the way Momiji nods at Ryu to thank him for looking out for her, and the way that Vincent just stands there, nonchalantly, as if he was saying "...you called?"
Man. Monty Oum was taken away far too soon. Still, he lived long enough to give us Haloid, Dead Fantasy, and RWBY, and now as a reward, he's dancing with Final Fantasy and Dead or Alive girls in heaven for all eternity.

Likely an old parking garage rather than a place of business or something. It's not too surprising when you step away from the awesomeness to analyze the battle setup (though I was only able to do so after watching this video over a hundred times 😅)
Either I forgot monty passed away or I'm learning for the first time but either way that's really sad :(

Something the RWBY team fails to grasp since Monty's passing is rhythm in fight scenes. With Monty every fight was like a dance with the way everyone uses their weapons, and especially with any sort of magic. You'd expect to see changes obviously because it's hard to clone someone's animation style, but it's just surprising that RWBY completely lacks any sort of actual rhythm with its. It has gotten a bit better lately with spacial awareness and timing, but the rhythm still feels so lifeless and hollow.
Especially the length of the fight scenes. Monty's fights are relatively short, but there is so much more going on during 1 Minute than is in 4 Minutes of modern RWBY. I'd rather have short amazing fights, than long stretches of clunky acrobatics. The only fight I bothered to watch more than once was the the 4vs4 battle of the last volume.
Well it could be that Monty was motion tracing/ his fights from various action movies. So it's got that professional timing to it
Actually, he mocaped himself doing all those dance moves. He was damn good dancer after all
The Key was also Team play. Suddenly when they switch from 1 vs 1 to more, they act like they had done this since childhood
Also the camera angles mount had were epic too
I love how this battle doesn’t make a single lick of sense, but the animation is 100% committed on selling it anyway.
We need more Monty Oums in this world.

Monty actually wanted to continue working on it but said that his work with original characters in RWBY took more of a priority. I understand why he abandoned it. I'm sure he would have finished it at some point had he lived. Also Ob, please stop spreading idiotic conspiracy theories. He died of an allergic reaction to latex during a routine checkup. Unless you have some proof that the alleged murderer paid the doctors to lie to the public, you have no evidence. Why would someone even murder him? He wasn't a rich man, there's no incentive to steal his supposed fortune.

I have something I can conclude in this fight: Kairi/Namine needed blood on the blade before she could summon Vincent. Notice how at 2:47, when the blade comes up, it strikes Momiji and draws blood. That's when it gets that specific glow to it; when Kairi uses it, it strikes into the ground with what looks like a blood splatter. I believe she planned it that way (she seems to be a tactiful opponent) , to summon Vincent, but needed blood first. Just a theory.

to summon a demon you need blood , and on how Monty let kairi/namine fight i guess she was OP vs momiji ( like sephiroth vs all :P ) not even going 100% full power
@@passieverhoef3166 nah they're both underrated and underused best girls in there games . I feel like this takes place some time after kingdom hearts and Ninja Gaiden two and both Momiji and Kairi are stronger than they had been . Momiji having fused with Namine probably just has the power to used powers related to connection and kairi's ability's as a key blade wielder to make key blades based on people they know that offer her a transformation or a summon whick would explain why this for has gun blades for wings and is summoned with a feather (Rinoa ) and why that dark key blade when activate by blood summons Vincents .
Since it's this was never finished it's not clear what buffs Momiji was going to get but but given her speed, agility , reflexes and the fact she blew up a building attacking Namine it's clear she was not there to play games only deepening the mystery as to why they were fighting and princesses of heart and dragon shrine maidens are basically the same and it out of character for the two to be fighting this hard against a none heartless / a none fiend.

I agree with this conclusion, and also just love how RUTHLESS Namine is in comparison to Kairi. The timing of the video and attention paid to Ryu's intervention tells us that Momoji would have been badly hurt if not KILLED if she'd kept charging. I feel like Vincent would have been summoned either way, but Namine was also setting up a devastating blow if her opponent was dumb enough to rush her.
Bonus points: Namine got Momoji focusing on a bunch of different targets coming from all directions before she tried to draw blood.
It's manipulative and elegant and very much in keeping with her canon personality, I think.
I solemnly swear this is the best fan-made thing EVER MADE.

i dont think anyone to this day animates like Monty did. This feels more real and fluid than most AAA games today.

for those wondering the wings on Namines back in both style,movement and combat attacks are inspired by "Nu 13" from Blazblue a PSP/PS3 sidescrolling fighting game. I love the idea, and Monty definently made it look incredible! Keep up the good work

honestly I dislike the idea of kairi become op keyblade wielder. we already have bunch of strong fighter namely sora/riku/mickey/aqua/terra/ventus/roxas and axel. Kairi isnt suit to be another fighter. The idea of her being able to fight is good enough.

@@drago1uk2000 aqua shattered the incomplete x-blade by herself, the reason she lost to venitus was that being in the realm of darkness had temporarily weakened and tired her, she barely got a day of rest from 10 years of soloing demon towers and demon tides. Both of which the guardians of light suffered to fight
This is the most epic battle for me. I hope someone able to continue his work. Because I'm still waiting for the next episode.. Monty Oum inspires me a lot. I started learning 3d because of him. But i will continue my journey. Rip Monty.

Still quite literally my favorite rendition of Namine ever. Like I really hope she gets a chance to shine more in whatever KH spin-offs will inevitably come out before KH4 ever gets released. I feel like she has so much potential in terms of if and possibly when she can also summon a keyblade and fight (or even just fight and support through other means) and what her Memory Manipulation powers can become if they gave it the chance to grow into something more.

At least once a year I always come back to this and watch each episode, this was just toooo freaking good back then when u watched. It's so well done and he executed this so well... I'm sad we didn't get to see the next one, I hear it's being continued by someone and I'm happy about that, but we'll never know Monty next vision 🥲

This moment and the sound when the blade and her hair change gives me goosebumps everytime I watch
I was 7 yrs old when I first watched DF. Now I'm 17 and it still really amazes me. Because of the unfinished episodes, it feels like there's something missing in me. Monty's creation is the reason of my fantasy imaginations. If only he's still alive 😔. I'm really hoping there would be someone to continue the story.

Did you notice it, too? Here they have some sort of "Combat etiquette", it is rare today
EVERY TIME. EVERY SINGLE TIME. every time the fight gets really good, you end up having to wait until the next episode and i just waited two years for these glorious three and a half minutes.
you can tel monty put alot of time and effort into this teaser. he's testing a few new methos as you can tell by the effects (the smoke from vincents cape, the splatters, ect) the textures (the glossy lips, bright eyes, smooth shiney textures on the clothing, boots and weapons) and the background depth. its not just one layer anymore. theres the buildings, the father back buildings then the skyline. very well done, a wonderful masterpiece as always. rwby is great but its always good to revisit the series that got monty to where he is today.

Watching some of Monty's old work makes me think how much RWBY Vol 4-8 would have been much much better. Monty's fights don't need dialogues and you can clearly understand what's happening and it's fun to watch...
RWBY's Vol 4-8 make every fight like hit me..., hit you... talk... Cut to other scene. Hit me, hit you again and another talk. Then cut to another scene again.... end the epsidoe with a the worst Cliffhanger because the fight is boring and everyone becomes stupid...

I like how Ryu is chillin' somewhere else until Vicent appears.
He was probably waiting to see if Momiji could handle Namine on her own. She couldn't, but she held her own well enough that he didn't need to intervene until the blade was about to impale her either. Momiji would have lost that fight if he hadn't stepped in. Namine didn't even get a scratch on her. I've said this several times before, but when the odds are equal the FF cast has the upper hand in combat. The DOA crew only wins when they have superior numbers on their side and that applies here as well.

Doa side has only rachel as a fiend/half-demon… all others are either ninjas or karate practitioners

I really wish Roxas and Naminé never got their own bodies so Sora and Kairi could do something like this instead....
And also because they only came back virtue of a retcon that was made just because people cried about Roxas.
They are many, many people I wouldn't care about getting the stink eye from as a JRPG protagonist.

if you mean Kairi's Keyblade, that was already designed. If you mean Namine's, then those are fan made keyblades you can find on Deviantart that Monty got permission to use

It's not clear (this isn't a final version, so there's likely stuff missing), but it looks like they've actually gone across rooftops in their aerial clash and ended up on rooftop parking in a parking garage.

The FF characters just seem so badass... I mean keyblade wings, tornado spells, teleport, ability to freeze entire pools of lava, and summoning comrades through easy keyblade access...it sure constitutes the slo-mo they get at the end of the lvl
@zelkstone Namines wing Keyblades can be used in close combat or Range. She focused The Keyblades on Momiji like Heat seekers basically
I once did a cosplay based on this namine 😊 I couldn't make the keyblades she uses here, but I did make oathkeeper and oblivion instead.

Well, she seemed to be using Ventus' Wingblade form, and since Namine has control over the memories of everyone connected to Sora, it stands to reason that she knows that. Also, since Ventus is part of Sora, it also stands to reason that Sora can do that too (and then some, I'm sure).
i wouldn't say often,but what we do get is awesome.
Those keyblades are Lunar Eclipse (white), which Monty had someone design for him, and the black/red one is unnamed, but people have been calling it Cerberus for obvious reasons.

I think it's more a case of Namine being that powerful than kairi. She IS called a witch after all, and her magic can create an entire freaking world. She doesn't do anything in canon because she wants to be returned to Kairi's body, but even so, she has obviously vast amounts of power and because she's never gotten into a fight in canon, her potential is limitless.
Actually made me kind of respect the character a litlte bit.
