      Captain Ghost it’s called American wagyu. Grades very well. Tastes great, but has to be fed grains and corn to produce the best marbling. Friendly cows that have average virility. The ranch I’m at has 120 of them and we switched them to a 100% grass fed all natural program like the rest of the herd and they’re not doing as well as other breeds like the corriente and Hereford.

    • @dwightstjohn6927
      @dwightstjohn6927 Před 3 lety +1

      @@bobbyholloway9776 I hear that from almost everyone in N. America: Wagyu take FOREVER to finish. They also appear to have dairy confirmation, so would be heavily discounted at auction or feeder buyers, unless you finish yourself. I also suspect they're not "growthy" like Maine-Anjou and European breeds and crosses, so unless you inherit the farm clear title and don't care how long it takes, they're probably fine. But my input costs are very high in Canada; no taking forever when other choices are out there. I also hear their bloodlines are not consistent, there's a lot of variance in temperment.

  • @williamriley2528
    @williamriley2528 Před 5 lety

    Quality and flavor of meat is affected by what they eat. I have eattin Holstein that tasted just like Angus and I have had Angus that tasted terrible. The reason Angus is number 1 in America is because of how fast they grow. They have a large amount fat to muscle ratio that's part of the reason they taste so good. Fat = taste

    Is Black Angus considered the best quality American Beef?

    • @flamingfalkor
      @flamingfalkor Před 8 lety +24

      From what I understand they're the best cow breed used for meat (in the US), because they have a bunch of muscle and pretty good marbling. The best beef is generally considered to be wagyu, but you can get wagyu beef from a variety of breeds. In the US wagyu cattle are bred with Angus cattle, which gives you American wagyu beef. It's worth noting that "wagyu" beef is considered to be different from "Kobe" beef, because Kobe beef has to originate from the Hyogo prefecture in Japan and only come from the Tajima breed of wagyu cattle. Wagyu beef just has to come from cows related to the original wagyu cattle that were imported to the US.

      Fiona C, you're exactly right. Quinna Molden, your information is inaccurate. Properly fed "dairy" beef are very good. In a lot of cases they are better than the native breeds. As for the spinal column thing, it's determined by the number of adult teeth present at the time of slaughter. Four adult teeth present and it's good to go. If a fifth is showing it's not. The fifth tooth starts showing after 30 months and sometimes as late as 36 months.

    Nice bulls...this trend of no antibiotics is getting a little ridiculous...if a cow gets sick, for any number of reasons just like ppl do, what is wrong w/ giving him antibiotics??...I understand not using them prophylactically all the time but this movement of "no antibiotics ever!" is friggin crazy...it's like if u get an upper respiratory infection or a stomach infection or a cut (& remember they have poo & flies & bugs & stuff everywhere on a farm even if one does practice good animal husbandry) & take some medicine for it...what is the problem if the beef u r eating has had antibiotics at some point in its life??...just like everything else it gets metabolized & excreted...I just don't get these ppl nowadays...I have Black Angus...just a few to raise & sell & to raise my own steer to eat...they get sick?...I give them an antibiotic if need be...

      sdelony in this case it’s not that they care about how it will change the beef, they are just focused on breeding weakness to disease out of the gene pool

      maybe you weren't listening. he said if they do require antibiotics the ear tag is marked and it will not go to the all natrual beef buyers.

      You are stupid he literally said they will give antibiotics if they are sick and then they get to live out their lives there and won’t be sold.

      daAnder71 you obviously dont know how antibiotics work if you think eating something that consumed some would actually affect you. Not only would the antibiotics not be prevalent in the meat at all, they target entirely different bacterium than what humans would. And even then, the problem with taking antibiotics isnt harming your immune system, its creating antibiotic resistant bacteria with the ones that lived through the first doses, hence why you have to take all of the antibiotics you're prescribed, even if you feel better.

    • @MegaAnswerer
      @MegaAnswerer Před 6 lety +2

      The problem is big ranchers stuffing everything with antibiotics... With the horrific condition within these institutions infections are endemic, so they try prevent the infection by giving antibiotics whenever they can even . And with continued dilute exposure it gives the bacteria more time for them to adapt through their rapid reproduction to the antibiotics causing them to develop resistance. And, with the cattle or any other animal becoming sick the ranchers use stronger antibiotics and the cycle continues until none of our current antibiotics will work. Now, if these "superbugs" ends up in your meat and you get sick from it antibiotics won't help you and basically all the hospital can do is give you the strongest antibiotics possible and hope for he best. Excessive antibiotics usage is causing our world to crawl back to the dark ages when we wouldn't be able to do surgery as it would be certain death by infection, or where a simple bacterial infection will kill you.
