he decided not to sell to the highest bidder, but instead a dedicated fan. mad respect for that
Indeed!
Every car I've sold has been about the car not the money.
My brother in law has coveted my '73 2dr Fairmont but he never keeps them so I sold it for less to a friend that flipped out when he saw it in my shed
When I was a kid I loved Herbie, didn't believe in santa but Herbie was the real deal.
Yep
I was just thinking that in embarrassment.. I was born in 73, my mom was all excited to let me watch it as a toddler. I knew it was good if mom was excited about a movie. Well, my dad is a hard ass trucker, and it went away quick..for along time. In fact my first ride in one of his rigs was 1978. I loved the movies, it also inspired me to take care of any machine I enjoyed.
@@bgd73, I have every Herbie movie on DVD.
Same my guy
I currently love Herbie.
Repeating lots of what's been said - but a great story of VW community taking care of it's own. He didn't give it to Clayton, but he could surely haver got more through an auction, but he respected Clayton's passion and did a deal.
Awesome.
I love people that appreciate other people that have a strong love for something and rather sell it to them than other people that wouldn’t as much! Props to the guy that gave him a chance to get him this car!
Yep that is a good deed that we can all appreciate
So Glad it's on display for everyone to see and enjoy
Thank you sir
The legend lives on👍✌💟
Great vid and thanks for using some of my images. @4:41 that's my Herbie replica the right of TLB #10 and my buddy Tyler's '66 1300 Sedan to the left of the car. As one of those individuals who told Clayton "You need to meet Tory Alonzo" (who just happened to be at Funfest that year) I can honestly say that this car ended up in the right place with the right owner. Good for Clayton for getting "Junky" out and about. (o\5!3/o).
Mike thank you so much!. I'm so glad you were there that day too make this connection happen. And also thanks for letting us use your images. What a wonderful story and a happy ending!
👏👏👏 wow that owner has such a passion and it makes me happy so so happy he has this car! ❤👍🙂
Yep we are going to interview Clayton again soon for his other car that just hit over 1 million miles
I love that car. That's why I have a Herbie too but mine is the Prototype Herbie in red that appeared in a few posters... a red bug... 😊
ah ok, that's pretty cool. hadn't heard of that one!
I am 51 and Herbie was my favorite car and movie as kid, glad to see this little car is still around thank you for the awesome video.
Thanks Mike, glad you liked it
I can remember the Herbie car and the film. Thanks Gavin.☺
Wonderful story. Loved the original number decal!👍
Yep thanks Eman!
The little hopping junkyard Beatle was always my favorite car and scenes from any Herbie movie ever.i still remember it fondly. Knowing it's still alive makes me happy.💕🥰😍✊🏻
yep thanks!
@@VWLifeVW I sincerely hope I get the touch it someday. And share that special moment with my own 3 children.
Watching it round the corner following all the others in the Beatle Army was awesome.
Really pleased this Herbie is still out there.
Thanks for sharing this video.

Happy birthday, Herbie!!
Still young at heart!
Gary, your enthusiasm and patience make for great interviews!
thanks!
I'm not exactly a Herbie fan, but I do have some memories of the movies on TV. Love the fact it's in original shape...not all shiney and new. It still has the history all over it and it's beautiful. That car has brought a lot of smiles to faces over the years.
Indeed it has thanks!
Another great story about our Bug Lovin" family!! Thanks for posting, And thank You Clayton for letting us share your fantastic Beetle.
Yep big thanks to Clayton!
Great video guys! Love this story! It's so cool to see it survive all these years! =)

I realize it's quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good site to stream new series online?
@Eddie Corbin I watch on flixzone. You can find it on google =)
Back when the first movie came out Ford City Mall in Chicago, IL. In front of the cinema sat Herbie I don't know what number it was I proceeded to open the engine hood and their was a stock engine me being at around 10 years old I was expecting to see a supped up engine I was disappointed the manager came out and yield at me to get out of here and closed the hood 8 years later he hired me as an usher
Lol funny and I cool story thanks for sharing!
Whoa, Ford city was around in the 60s?? Ive been around that Mall before. Pretty cool!
@@SArtisto1 i think 53
I LOVE Herbie!!!! My dad had a beige VW and I always believed it was related to Herbie..and would come to life..it did.(I was 5)
herbie is the reason a lot of people love vws! :)
I love this! Herbie started my love of cars and of VWs. It is so amazing to see this car not only survive but to be kept, driven and loved 50 years later. Herbie not only inspired me but my oldest son, 21, who owns a pearlwiese 63 bug that he bought at 15. Keep these videos coming! I hope to soon share some videos on my own channel of us working on his bug Quinn. Peace!
Thanks so much for sharing! Yes get the Quinn videos going!

I just LOVE this car... beautiful. I'm glad you are preserving it for future generations to enjoy. Thank you.
Glad you enjoy it!
Very cool, thanks for sharing! I got to see a Herbie movie car while at the Ben Pon show in Holland. It was in pretty rough condition but an awesome
piece of history. It’s neat hearing the back story on this one.
Yep pretty cool! Would love to go to Ben pon one day
Awesome interview and story. I am so glad that Herbie #11 has a loving home and is out and about with its VW friends. 🥰 ✌️

Hey! It's my good friend Clayton Capps!
Yes sir!
Great video, thanks for sharing!!!
I'm a fan of the old herbie movies.
One of my favorite cars from my childhood!!! Nice to see that someone cherishes it as much as any real true fan would. That number 10 looks to be in great hands too. Reminds me of the Iglesias comedian whom also has a big heart for VW’s. Would be nice to see him in your channel btw & you got yourself a subscriber thanks to good ol’ herb ;)
Yep would love to get fluffy on our show!
Just an awesome story with Clayton and the #10 Herbie just super. VW Life thanks again on an awesome story.

Omg herbie. When i was a kid i always watched herbie. I have seen all of the movies. In herbie goes bananas when they threw herbie in the water i always cried. Herbie has a special place in my heart
yeah that was a sad part :( glad you liked our video!
yeah that was a sad part :( glad you liked our video!
that was so sad 😭
Absolutely awesome story. My absolute dream car, a 1963 ragtop done as Herbie. Sadly very hard to come across a 63 ragtop in AUS, but i have a 75 super named Bertie (a play on Herbie) who brings me so much joy.
Well that's almost as good I would guess. Thanks for sharing!
Once again...great video. Always loved Herbie. If I could, I would restore a Herbie as a daily!!
Yep that would be cool!
Thank you for sharing
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing!!

VW Life I am no worries 👍🏻
I obsess about getting a bug, since I was 4 years old with my first film being Herbie Rides Again all the way to me at 23. I can't wait to get my own 63 (and a Meyers Manx too!) Very beautiful, very informative, and Clayton's just an amazing dude.
Yes he is Rey! Thanks for watching hope you find that 63!
When I was young I loved this car so much. The first herbie movie I watched was fully loaded. But I went back and my favorite movie was rides again by a long shot.
Ah okay cool!
Wow! How cool is that?! I remember going to see the movie when it first came out, with a bunch of other kids, then we went over to Ruby Red's for a pizza party. I still remember that scene with Herbie #10. Just love how original that car is. Amazing.
Thanks for sharing!
Great video really cool to see a real herbie car and it's cool story!!
Glad you liked it Mike
I have always loved Herbie and I have a very pristine 1/18 Scale model of Herbie that I bought around 15 years ago of the Movie car that I am very proud of .
Very cool!
Herbie is a national treasure!
indeed!
Great Story! Always cool to see such am iconic movie car in real life
yep lucky to have it in our area with such a cool guy as Clayton!
Awesome!! Loving number 10 Herbie 👍👍👍 I have a 1 owner, original engine, black 1965 so am a big big lover, but if I'm honest, Herbie was what started me off on them, back in the 70's growing up, watching the films 👍
Cool thanks for sharing!
@@VWLifeVW and thank you for sharing too
Missed out on seeing Herbie, dangnabit! Definitely will see him at Harvest!
Thanks so much Gary!

Gonna be hard to top this video guys! What a cool story that goes with the car.
Thanks Scott!
Thanks, that was nice to see.
Thanks! Gald to hear
What a great "Herbie" story, Thank You!
Thanks Alan!
Wow what a story! Love it!!
:) yeah we're lucky to have Clayton around!
Fun video. My interest in VWs started with Herbie when I was a little kid. We ran One Lap of America with a modified 1983 VW Rabbit, and it felt like a Herbie movie. They ranked us one car ahead of dead last (just in front of Rocky Aoki's Beetle) but we finished third in our class.
Very cool!
Amazing story...thanks for sharing.
Glad to do it Sasha!
Amazing history. Cool!
Yep pretty amazing!
Very enjoyable video.
Thanks!
Nicely done!
Thanks!
Awesome, thanks guys!
Thanks Wes!
Thanks Wes!
I have a picture of me with this very car at Swigart Museum back in 1997 when I was 9 years old and it was in a lot worse shape then. So glad to see it getting the love it deserves. I believe they still have the other one that's in better shape.
very cool!
Got to love Herbie . Herbie was my first VW beetle love to this day I still enjoy watching the original Herbie movies
Yep thanks hillbilly!
Brings back some Herbie memories!
Yep
Very cool!
thanks!
I helped push that same car at the 50th anniversary in Disney World.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing
That's amazing! Can't believe it survived.
Yep that's the real story here isn't it
Awesome story, wish I would have been able to talk to him at Lakeland earlier this year.
Yep cool dude
Very cool.
Clayton! I’ve never seen him in a CZcams video. 😃 he is helping me work on mine!
He's a great guy! What do have?
What a lovely guy, and how cool is no:10! ❤️
indeed!
No more Irish coffee 😂 your so lucky amazing story
Yep pretty cool stuff..
Love ‘em! My first car was a used 1964, nicknamed “Thunderbug” after we backed into a parking space that had a piece of rebar sticking up that tore a hole in the muffler. My first brand new car was a shiny red 1968 loaded with options...an FM radio. Cost me a nickel less than $2,000 and I thought I was signing my life way on E4 pay. I wish I still had it.
Wow thanks for sharing!
What a great story😊👍
Thanks biff!
Cool ! Interview .....
thanks :)
The car that started my VW love affair ♥️ currently lovin my mK4 1.8 turbo 🙃
Ah okay cool!
I remember that exact car from a auto museum I went to a couple years back damn
Yep!
I'd put my dream car in my room also.
Saw the original movies in the cinema, we had it good in the 70's and 80's for tv vehicles.
I'm glad it's safe.
Yes sir!
I was at Midamerica Motorworks in Effingham Ill in 2006 and they had two of the herbies there. The one in the building was mostly a prop and the one outside the guy couldn't get it started and I tried to help him get it started but think it had a bad ignition coil. hehe.
Ha ha that sounds like a typical Volkswagen lol thanks for sharing
It hurts seeing VWs all dented and beat up 😭 scares me with driving mine around, but I can’t stop
Yep #vwlife pretty much
Super cool
Super duper!
That was really interesting. Yes im a vw nut too i have a 1303 and a 1973 type 200 basic transporter (not a kombi.)
very cool!
Very cool ! I’m 55 years old my Dad bought a brand new 58 and 63 Beetle back i the day i have very fond memories of going on road trips in the 63 as a matter of fact on those road trips i ha a little plastic counter i. Got out of a cereal box. That used to make a click sound everytime i pushed it to keep count on VW bugs we saw along the trip my parents would always be looking as well of course in those days it was easy. To spot the cars at night because of the 6 volt. Systems as luck would have it after high school. I became freinds with a guy in Florida that ha a 63 ragtop as his daily driver unfortunately when he bought the car one of his 27 bugs he owned it had a fiberglass Baja kit. On it But it didnt stop us from standing up thr the ragtop going down the highway the Love Bug movie is still one of my favorites as i did see it originally at a drive in theater in that 63 my Dad had it was a botched Green paint job that came from the factory like that my parents did order Green but the one they got was a different Green than they picked out at the dealership ? My Dad used to tell me that. When he drove the car to work and parked on the street. Many times he would walk out of work to find several people looking under the car and even on a few occasions with the engine or trunk lid open just to see more on how the car was made he said on more than one occasion he would have to yell at people to get away from his car. As he wanted to drive it home having a original Herbie to me is really cool I know a couple of years ago the one from theHerbie movie with Lindsey Lohan went up for sale on Ebay and it sold a little cheaper than i thought it was going to i beleive that oe still had some of the odifications that were used in the movie like water cannons and blinking eyelids Still working. As i saw pictures of the car but i never did see that movie yet
Craig thanks so much for sharing your story with us! That's awesome
Such a cool story
Yeppers!
I have seen a couple of "herbies" but they did not seem real to me. This one is real. Thanks for sharing.
Glad to share! Thanks for watching
Way cool! What a deserving owner! Herbie rides again.
He really is the best isn't he?
You were sitting in the junk car! Probably the most memorable bug from the Army of beetles
That's right!
I saw both movies when they can out. Great memories.
Good times thanks for watching!
I’m going Bananas over this nostalgia. Nifty Five Fifty Three. Wasn’t 53 Don Drysdale # from the Dodgers. Right On Brother!
ha ha thanks Mark!
It is surprising that it wasn't scrapped... so the fact it's an original movie car wreak kinda makes it cooler than a pristine one
Exactly! Pretty amazing huh?
Fantastic❤️
Thanks dj!
Thanks for this video, grew up watching Herbie, and now at the age of 45 I have an Australian built (built in Clayton, Victoria) birch green 1964 VW Beetle 1200 Deluxe which I adore here in Canberra, Australia. Great channel, looking forward to watching all your videos.
Awesome Ben! Those aussy beetles were very unique. We are planning on doing a video of a 57 here in Texas that is very nice. Glad to have you here
Great story. 👍
Thanks!
I was in Orlando for my daughter's dance competition (weekend of March 16th), she didn't have a dance until later that evening, so me and my 7yr old son, snuck off to Disney. Well, on the way back to competition, I saw all the Herbie's on World Dr and texted my buddy (fellow Herbie Owner) David Evans and was like dude, I just saw y'all lol. I distinctly remember seeing this #10 Herbie in the convoy and definitely drooled a little. #AirCooledLife (●\ ! /●)
Very cool Scott!
