  • Unleash the power of the sun with just a handful of leaves and your everyday carry (EDC) Wallet Fresnel Lens. Compact leaves straight off the ground into your hand, train the lens' focal point on the leaves for a couple of minutes to build a self sustaining ember, place the embering handful of leaves into your stove full of leaves, and blow into flames.

Glad you made this. Tried Fresnel lens on leaves the other day on slightly hazy day, but didn’t know I had to hold it maybe 2 min before it would ignite. Thanks. I’ll try it again.

Wear some shades and try again. It’s difficult to do, but start the aeration while you continue to hold the focal point tightly focused in.

I do believe you have burned more swratdrops than most people have burned tinder bundles

When I took away the fresnel lens to blow the tinder into flames, I dropped another couple of big ones right in on the tinder, too.

Hi David! As you point out there is a good bit more waiting than with punkwood.

This might work for about 2 days a year in the UK as that’s about as long as summer lasts these days!
As kids we were always burning things (including each other) with a magnifying glass, summer holidays RR 😀

Used a magnifying glass to burn red ants as a kid. Couldn't do that these days as red ants are an endangered species where I live. They don't make a good fire however! 😆

Yesterday I tried to get a leaf ball (oak) ember using my SAK magnifying glass. Didn’t work but that’s why we play with Fire 🔥, I want to know what works for when I need it.

Don't feel bad friend...I also find my SAK magnifying glass pretty worthless for fire starting... it's good for seeing slivers and knots! I just use my fresnel lens' as they are much faster! I have the one Mr. West uses, but also have a Bausch & Lomb 3x5" lens that starts fires right now!

I need to practice with one of those from the SAK. I’d like to see what it could do.

@@DavidWestBgood2ppl I think you could probably ignite char cloth/punk, but I've had no real success with much else.

The physical size of a magnifier is what makes the hottest focal point not the power of the magnifier. If a fresnel lens is 10 times bigger than the SAK's magnifier... then the fresnel lens' focal point is 10 times hotter.
