- From the Uzbekistan Suite. After the destruction of World War II, a new organ with mechanical tracker action and electric stop action was built in 1962 by Prof. Karl Schuke, Berlin. Two manuals, 30 stops only!
What a curiously shaped hat the organist seems to be wearing! His playing shines brightly.

In one of the pictures, Ekkehard Schneck appears to be wearing the music desk light as a hat in the style of Hagar the Horrible's friend, Lucky Eddie! No comparison, of course! This playing is masterly.

Thankfully this squeaky neo-baroque organ has now been replaced with a much larger English Romantic style electro-pneumatic action organ by Eule of Bautzen, with big Diapasons and Tubas. Much more befitting the grand space of Constantine's basilica.
I thought that the Schuke organ I played in college was the ugliest sounding organ in the world. Turns out I was wrong; THIS Schuke is the ugliest organ in the world.
What a sheltered life you must enjoy! The Schuke sound IS very abrasive, but take it from me: there are organs around which ARE worse...
