I love both games. The new WRC has its own pros, such as the new WRC cars and many fun rallies that didn't exist is DR 2.0, such as Kenya, Estonia, Indonesia, Chile, Japan, Italy and Mexico, and some others as well. But then DR 2.0 just kind of feels perfect in every other way, i had to uninstall it so i had disk space for the new WRC, but i also want to go back to DiRT Rally 2.0 for a while. And i want to mention one thing i've noticed that WRC does a lot better: FWD cars! I love the new feel of the FWD cars in WRC, especially the F2 Kit Cars, they feel so much grippier and nicer to drive. And also, one of the reasons we might like DiRT Rally 2.0 a bit more is the fact that it's older, which means we have driven it for a long time and we have good memories of playing it. I think in 5 years we'll then have the same thing with WRC, we'll have good memories of having fun while playing the game. That's what i think.

but it's "quantity over quality". The Career mode is abysmal for a WRC game with far too much non WRC related championships. The game should be called DIRT 6 not WRC. And don't get me started on car builder mode! Using custom built cars in the CAREER!!!! A big no-no for A WRC GAME!!!! And even hybrid car physics with hybrid boost kicking in as soon as you tuch the "throttle" mid-turn!!! LOL. Then no hybrid deployment style selection like in WRC Generations (which pretty much matched the options for real Rally1 cars). Yes the cars sound a lot better, but that's about it. Physics is even dumbed down from Dirt Rally 2.0 to give it more arcadey style (which has its merits for casual players but they shuld have atleast only used cars which were available in WRC at some point in it's history and not them plus other cars which were never used in WRC). That's why I prefer WRC 10 and WRC Generations in that regard - only using legendary WRC cars from Class 2, Class 4, Group B, Group A, WRC, S2000, R5, N4, R4 and similar car categories that were used in WRC (and it's supporting classes).
PS: They could have added Yugo Koral with Lancia Delta Integrale's engine!!!! or some other monstrosity like that!

I noticed from the very first video that the physics and mechanics were off, it’s just not how rally cars drive. Dirt Rally 2 nailed it, if not a bit more forgiving than the first one. If WRC were any good I’d have pirated it and enjoyed it, it just feels like an aimless cash grab substantiated by hype

      Yes there are four categories:
      Stage Configuration: 10\10 10\10
      Stage Appearance: 10\10 10\10
      Sound Design: 10\10 10\10
      Immersion In Gameplay: 10\10 10\10
I really think both games are good in all of these categories.
I'm just a very big fan of DiRT Rally 2.0 and I couldn't help but notice its excellence.
I also have great respect for Codemasters, who created so many wonderful games that gave me many wonderful emotions. Therefore, perhaps subconsciously, I slightly overestimated EA Sports WRC.
And you are probably right, it would be more correct to give this game such points in the categories:

Modern gaming development is on a major decline. For everything gained in a franchise sequals / successor, something is taken away in its place. It never used to be this way on previous generations - sequals had everything the previous games had but more besides built on top of it and so forth. With the capability of modern hardware there's just no excuse.

My biggest issue with the new game so far has been the throttle not working correctly in the Rally1 cars. A really Great Review and comparison!! And I could agree with a lot you say. But for the Physics I Feel the opposite. WRC 23 has way more weight feeling, has an brilliant feeling in terms of weight transfers. Never could do Scandinavian Flicks with such an precision like in WRC 23!! Every RWD car is so different to drive. First time the breaking distances are on point, cause of the brilliant FFB (light years better than in DR 2.0 when setted perfect!!) you feel instantly ever change of griplevel. Could talk about the gravel physics hours more…
And only a few one talks about the new gravel physics???!!! Clearly the tarmac physics get an completely change, and for sure they are better than in DR 2.0, but the gravel physics are also far better than in DR 2.0. , you couldn’t feel this in the first seconds but with two hours of going deep in them and at least at the real limits you could recognize them….
Where WRC 23 really shines is the physics of the RWD cars on gravel. They are perfect, brilliantl and absolutely on point. Best I could ever experience on an Rallye sim for over 20years and I test them all. Over 500hours in RBR over 500hours in DR2.0 and nearly 400hours in WRC Generations…
DR 2.0 was an great experience, love it, but it has no chance to beat WRC 23 on gravel, at least not with the RWD cars I drove for 90% in DR 2.0 and for 95% of my 90hours driving time in WRC 23.
I know that I will have far over 1000hours fun and the deepest immersion I have ever had with WRC 23.
But all this thoughts are by using fine Fanatec Sim Equipment in an stabil sturdy rig. Don’t know how the comprehension is like when it comes to controller gameplay…

Because WRC does so much of the leg work for you, while the FFB has some improvements, the cars drive like they’re on soft-rails, makes the driving require less input and correction while making you feel more capable. It’s like the cars self-stabilize, it was designed under the pretense of many players using a controller. The tarmac is the only thing it has over DR2

Well tested both games on two consoles Series X and PS5... While already playing Dirt Rally for long time now then easily found out that's the new EA WRC23 is much more arcade game who aims for a masses while Dirt Rally not really.
Every RWD rally car in Dirt Rally is a mile more realistic including the weight transfer, excellent car folding before cornering, road uneveness feeling and whole dirt, rain , snow, dust or just driver animation including smooth legs operating on he pedals while EA WRC23 is totally nowhere. If they claim from the odd Codemasters today that this new WRC game is based on the Dirt Rally then they made a very poor version with only polished tarmac physics while it wasn't too bad in Dirt Rally. Suspension work again is much much better in Dirt Rally and whole alive environmental around the stage.
To be honest I'm really barely touched Hybrid rally cars or Group B in the new WRC because they feel soulless compared to the Group B in the Dirt Rally. Welsh, Scottish, USA rally is one of the best mixture used in a rally games.
For me WRC23 is clearly more arcade game while Dirt Rally much more hardcore sim especially when using Group B or fast RWD rally car.

In my opinion, If you had to choose which to get, wrc if you got the graphics to handle it (crap cpu with RTX 3070, some fps drops here and there, but nothing bad) and like more technical maps and are into the new cars and also want better physics on tarmac, DR2.0 if you like SMOOTH fps, more All-Out Stages and better physics on dirt.
I guess DR2.0 graphics are better, but if you play inside the car it all comes down how the road and envoirement looks at 80mph. Both look just really good.

They've smashed it out of the park with the latest WRC game. Yes, issues upon launch, but name a game now a days what doesn't face those issues, especially with the new leap in graphics cards we've had this last couple of years. The handling never felt right in Dirt Rally 2.0 is was good yes, but some aspects just felt off. WRC although not perfect has improved all round here, the tarmac is finally drivable, the stages are amazing and give enough time for a proper challenge and possibility of some great multiplayer championships. Like Dirt 2.0 though the damage is relaxed no doubt for gameplay reasons. Here I wish there was an option to make the damage more akin to 'Real World' because - and I've done this myself in the time trial, some of the runs I've restarted before completing because the sim allowed me to run up the bank or use the barriers to get around a corner quickly where in reality it would of wrecked the front end suspension. They've improved the short cut exploits it appears with leaderboard times looking closer, so that's good.
In gameplay Dirt 2.0 became nigh on unbeatable after you got to a certain level in career, the A.i would destroy anytime you could put up there making it difficult to continue playing in that mode. The graphics do look stunning still in Dirt 2.0, fair enough it's what we've been used to for all this time, but initially and even now the WRC can seem a bit cartoony in comparison but that's really nit picking, same with stages, if you somehow end up going through a bush or vegetation you get this really low res branch graphic momentarily, but if that's the cost for the Epic length stages, it is a price well worth payin as the times it affects you are only down to poor driving.
Another thing worth mentioning in the comparison is with WRC you get the complete package from the offset, all the cars and classes - a massive selection. Plus a fantastic amount of Stages. Add in the modes Career, Championship, Custom Championship, Moments, Time Trials and so on. All this for the £35-£45. If you were to buy Dirt 2.0 upon launch, yes you had the Dirtfish test area, Rallycross which a lot didn't like in the game, though I personally loved it's inclusion and will go back to Dirt 2.0 purely to play this mode. However they milked DLC with regards to additional tracks, cars - two season packs worth of additional content. Yes, it was great as loved the game, and now you can buy an all in version very cheaply, but if you're comparing Day 1 content wise WRC blows it away for value. Also there were MAJOR issues with Dirt 2.0 and RACENET throughout it's lifespan but on launch many had intermittent disconnects along with the dreaded - Couldn't Connect to Servers messages, which translated meant - you ain't going to play on this this game you've just bought. Plus it had the Obligatory - My Logitech G7 isn't recognised, can't redefine keys etc...etc.....

I got EA WRC yesterday, and my first impression after driving ~12 tracks is that the physics has a lot of things feeling very realistic - except that the breaking distance seemed way too short compared to what i would expect... To me the breaking distance and how quickly i can take a turn is a big part of what makes a game realistic, and i think maybe WRC10 seems a bit closer to reality than both EA WRC and Dirt 2.0; where cars seem too heavy, and have unrealistically long break distance. Admittedly, WRC 10 is probably a bit short on the break distance as well, but at least a bit closer to reality than the other 2 games seem to be.
Its still a bit early for me to say much about EA WRC, but so far WRC 10 gives ME the best balance between fun and realism in these 3 games, while Dirt 2.0 gives the biggest challenge - which i also enjoy. If breaking distance was not a factor, i think EA WRC would have been the obvious winner in terms of realism - and the fact that i can push the cars pretty hard in this game, also makes it a lot of fun. As far as tracks go, i have not found any that beats WRC 10 tracks yet, but i only tried 4 countries in EA WRC, so maybe ill change my mind later...

Dirt 2.0 gioco quasi perfetto per me. The user experience of WRC is pretty tragic. but the gameplay is better IMO. I can agree with the graphics and the optimisation DR2.0 is unbeatable there. I SORT OF agree on the weight of the vehicles? I would need to play more, but right now some of them do feel heavier, but when you compare Group B with something more recent you do get the feeling that Group B is lighter, so maybe it's just a shift in perspective. On the other hand Opel Manta felt like a really light car in DR2.0 and here it's kind of heavy feeling, it's very floaty on gravel. As for the controller I don't really see it? I would say DR2.0 was just marginally better, but they also never implemented PS buttons so I'd say it equals out. The stages are also cool. I don't understand the criticism on this.
Other than that, I feel like WRC is just better in every way. Sound is better (but not that DR2.0 was bad), damage system is better since I'm pretty sure depending on how you hit the wall the car might start turning in that direction, I think if you lose some front panels it affects the aerodynamics at very high speeds, damages to engine, radiator, etc. feel a bit more real. There are better stages, surface physics are SOOOO SUPERIOR in WRC. I think the physics and stages and the damage system is really what matters the most and these parts have improved so WRC, judged purely on core gameplay is better.
But judged as a full product it sucks, and they really need to fix this shit.

Thanks for your opinion. Naturally, everyone's perception of the game is subjective. About myself I can say the following: the more I play this game, the more I like it. And most importantly, no matter how imperfect EA Sports WRC would have been at the time of its release, it is still in the top 3 rally games in the entire history of rally games IMO.
It's interesting to see how far they'll go with improvements to this game. My biggest concern is the physics of the objects around the road. The developers simply cannot leave it in its current state. I refuse to believe this.

The thing is: all dr, dr2.0 and ea wrc are great experiences to be had with amazing driving, but if you do crash in the latter it's more likely to be just your fault and not the co-driver/physics/whatever. WRC has an amazing career mode which no doubt had to be in dr2 (I know it had a "career" but it was lacklustre), more rallycars (at the expense of rallycross i guess), more (and longer) locations and stages. The game lacks a lot of polish, the ui is often bad (especially in the multiplayer), custom championships are less convenient to make (no random stage, random conditions, add all stages, shuffle stages buttons (I liked making a championship across all of the stages and locations in dr2.0 and all of those were lifesavers and as I plan on doing the same in wrc not having any of those is just devastating)), the random events game generates are 3-5 stage rallies with only short (6-12km) stages. Like why advertise the game for having those 30km+ stages if they are not used in the career and just not presented to the player unless they specifically choose them?
The clubs: most of the problems are not being able to host more that 1 event at once in the same club and just no ways of searching for something you like. Even the fact, that you need to go to a website to find a club to compete in is bad, not to say there are just like 2-3 filters for searching through hundreds of clubs made by people. Why cant I look for a group A rally, I have to manually check all of the different clubs, until I find one that suits me.
About the quick play multiplayer: who thought rally multiplayer should always be connecting all the players in sync? It just causes freezes and stutters even if the game performs perfectly on your machine. A lot of people also don't khow there is an option of disabling their mic, so why make it always on by default?
Also one of the most criminal offenses by the game is the moments mode: why even have those opportunities for celebrating famous rally moments if you hide names like McRae and Makinen? Should I say thanks for at least having modern day wrc drivers? Just disgusting.
And I really hate how the whole duscourse around the game is just first impressions like performance and physics and none of the problems I stated above.

Thanks for your deep-dive. This is undoubtedly a very useful review. Creating your own championship with different locations is a very cool feature in DiRT Rally 2.0, absolutely agree. Clubs, moments, multiplayer in EA WRC - I just skimmed over these moments. I'm waiting for fixes and the moment when I can change the graphics card so I can return to this game and get the most out of it.

I think the handling in wrc rally seems to be significantly improved. I can sit down and control/drive the car through a stage and mostly use my driving instincts from the real world as opposed to adapting to a game. I am by no means a rally driver, but some games you sit down at the wheel and it just feels like a game that you need to adapt to and not a car.

A similar thought also occurred to me. I really love DR 2.0 and new high-quality stages are something for which I'd not mind paying an amount similar to the cost of EA WRC. But in fact, with all the shortcomings of the current state of EA WRC, I would rank this game in third place on the list of the best rally games of all time. Or shared third place with this Dirt Rally. (1. DR 2.0 2. RBR 3. EA WRC&DR)

i think you are handing out 10/10s to easy a 10/10 game would have nothing wrong with it but dirt rally 2.0 had absolutely garbage tarmac physics which for me already needs at least 2 points off. I get that you review from the point of a controller player but ffb and wheel support is a important aspect and i've heard positive things about wrc. For me i've started playing rbr rather than getting into wrc even if the stages look promising.

I have to say I’m on the fence, as when driving with the wheel, wrc seems more balanced, and slightly more enjoyable and definitely feels quicker, but dirt 2 feels more edgy and unforgiving! Maybe wrc is more arcade then sim?

I definitely think that EA WRS is more of a step towards simcade. But Dirt Rally 2.0 can hardly be called a simulator. The terms here are generally a very controversial topic. It's easier to simply evaluate gameplay in terms of how much you personally like it, and how much more realistic it seems to you.

Ah man. I own Wrc 9,20, generations. I bought them together for £40 on ps store. I’ve only played Wrc 10 and I really love it and even though I want to try wrc9, generations, I’m having so much fun with wrc10. With this in mind, and the fact that many people hate ea sports Wrc, I’m unsure if I should buy it. Ea sports Wrc is on Amazon for £30 and if people didn’t complain of bad graphics, bad framerate and stuttering, I would have bought right away. I’m a physical guy but funnily enough, all my racing games are digital. Apart from the incredible Driveclub. I keep meaning to buy the physical copies but never get round to it but it would be nice to buy this and my other racers on disc.
Can anyone here confirm if bad framerate and stutter has been fixed on ps5? Some say it’s terrible, some say it hardly happens, some say they get a small bit of stutter and others say they never had stutter on pc and ps5. I don’t know who to believe.
When I was on ps3 I was used to poor framerate but after I got ps4 and to a much greater extent, ps5. I experienced 60/120 fps and after that, under 60fps isn’t acceptable. 30 fps is like having the best looking girl in the world and never being able to touch kiss or have sex.
Plus, us as humans are very intelligent, too much for our own good and when something bad happens, we are automatically on guard.
For instance, I bought Wrc 6,7 and possibly 5 on ps4, few years ago because they was dirt cheap in ps store sale. I was excited to play but I could not complete a single race because the framerate was absolutely horrible.
Naturally, after buying Wrc 9,10 generations and they run butter smooth, I ended up loving Wrc but after everybody saying ea sports Wrc 23 is terrible for framerate and stutter, I don’t know if I should buy.
I just get so pissed off when I go against my instincts and get it wrong.

Tomorrow the promised patch with fixes will be released and it will become clear what they have fixed.
After that, it’s better to write a separate comment with the question about fixes for the PlayStation.
The games from KT are not bad at all, and most importantly they are about rally. I'm a rally fan and I have all these games in my collection. And no matter how unstable EA Sports WRC was, I had no opportunity to pass it by.
However, Dirt Rally 2.0 also had similar problems at the start.

After I changed the graphics card to AMD RX 6800 XT, as a rule, FPS does not drop below 60.
But I still have stuttering, apparently due to a weak processor (AMD Ryzen 7 2700). I'll replace it soon too.
You have a strong system, which points to the technical imperfections of the game (FPS drops in your case).
