    If you factor in the current reliability of SpaceX launching your entire space station at once won’t be factor

    • @Alejandro_Arellano
      @Alejandro_Arellano Před 3 měsíci +7

      Very much a factor for Starship, it's a new vehicle that's yet to launch successfully. Though it might not be a big risk by 2028 when it's supposed to launch.

    • @jaeluatl
      @jaeluatl Před 3 měsíci +2

      @@Alejandro_Arellano you are absolutely correct I shouldn’t say it won’t be a factor you’re correct it’s always a factor, but if you factor in the success rate of SpaceX, the success rate of them launching a brand new vehicle and give them two years. The factor is very low, so I don’t think they’re too worried about losing their entire ship. It’s a risk willing to take when you have a company with this good of a track record with a new vehicle all I’m saying that’s why they feel comfortable doing it and of course there’s always a factor risk that it’s gonna blow up just like a 747 or train gets derailed or semi flies off a bridge, but that doesn’t stop people from putting things on those vehicles because of their track record.

      @@jaeluatlIf they can get a successful launch, orbit, and reentry this year, especially if they can get at least the launch + orbit part done in their next test in Feb/March, by 2028 I think the rocket part of the starlab mission won’t be a concern and has a high probability of success like you said given their launch history. But just like peregrine, we’ve got to worry about the payload being successful as well. I think the vehicle will be totally fine by 2028. Technically it’s supposed to be landing humans on the moon by then so I very much hope it could handle a mission like starlab.

    • @markschroter2640
      @markschroter2640 Před 3 měsíci

      Perhaps some perspective is needed here. If SpaceX never manages to reuse any component of starship, I think they will still have the most successful rocket up to this point in history. (With a launch cadence that can only be matched by the country of China). All that is missing from the Spacex programs is a 3rd stage to eliminate most of the refueling issues.

    The idea of a single launch space station is appealing. I know the technology still has a long way to go before it could be flight and human certified but at some point in the not too distant future I’d love to see a version 2 where that 8m x 8m habitation module is replaced by an inflatable module (the most likely candidate right now being Sierra Space’s LIFE module). That would probably give a diameter somewhere between 12 and 15 metres plus Musk is talking about a stretched Starship at some point as well which could also allow it to be maybe another 3m longer with the non-inflatable service module also getting longer to accommodate more crew. By maybe the early 2030s I can imagine that it might be possible to build a single-launch LEO station something like 25% bigger than ISS.
    The next 10 years are going to be really exciting for space enthusiasts, or at least I hope so.

    A Starship cargo lifter for the Airforce is just plain dumb especially when the Starshp is stuck at a warzone location if it was not destroyed landing with a full cargo load in Earth's gravity.
    Airforce needs to stick with the C17 & C5, let the Navy transport M1 Abrams and other superheavy vehicles to a warzone, and entice Space X to replace Boeing and develop Commerical Airliners and Military aircraft.

    • @jtjames79
      @jtjames79 Před 3 měsíci

      Starship FOB from space is very doable.
      You remove all but the three landing engines from Starship. Then you install reinforced landing legs where three of the vacuum engines went. It would also make sense to install a second header in the main tank so that area can be freed up.
      You do all of that in space.
      Then it has just enough fuel after landing, to launch and land itself far enough away to be refueled for recovery.
      Suborbital hops take a lot less fuel and can get you really far, like across a continent.

    Why use vertically launch rockets? which are outdated and have a high failure rate. Build a Flying launch pad with two large Boeing airplanes connected to create a flying platform that can reach high altitudes, to the edge of space and from there, a single stage rocket and payload can begin ignition and acceleration into orbit.

    Politicians found a new toy. They have no idea how it works. Equip a Mars helicopter with a mini crane & try lift a payload, in the nearly nonexistent Mars atmosphere. Try to explain that a 6 year old who's seen it fly since he could think, and you know what your in for with politicians.
    Full 4 years for developing Starship. Artemis3 isn't ready sooner. Look how long it took for Falcon9. SpaceX were nothing when they startet. Now they have the experience. But Starship is not a scaled Falcon, and also not comparable to Saturn or SLS. Its a complete new class of rockets and the very first spaceship. The first step beyond our flying tincans.
