Baby raccoons, a skunk, and another close call !!!

- A large cast of characters visit me in my yard. The raccoons are all fighting for my attention, especially Cutie Monster. Mischievous Missy raccoon takes a bite out of the camera when I get too close. I still haven’t learned my lesson. One of these days. Cuties babies come to me and even approach Moonpie the skunk. Little Napoleon and Moira both want all the peanuts I'm tossing and they snarl up a storm. It's fun action with wild raccoons!

The skunks like to graze on my spearmint and peppermint plants at night. At least I know they have fresh breath. The other end not so much.

Little Napoleon is ballsy for sure, among the females and daring to boss Mama Moira about -- and she backed down, poor old darling. 😥 Always great to see Cutie and her babies; old Mama Moira being grumpy with the kiddos, tho! OMG, that little one standing and eating with both hands... ❤❤❤ And Little Miss attacking the Camera, so 'vicious'! Cheeky girl!

I keep thinking he's going to show up. Watching those little babies just melts your heart. Cutie Monster is a cookie addict, you are right. She may need some rehabilitation for cookie addicts. I love the name Lucy after Lucille Ball!! I LOVE Lucille Ball! The home she grew up in, is 6 miles from my house and the different museums and memorial park are about 4 miles from here!! She is the reason we moved to NY. lol They host a HUGEEEEE birthday celebration for her every year. That is coming up the first week in August.

Later, when Enta met up with Kora again, Kora noted that his friend seemed much healthier. Both Great Raccoons gazed at each other for a moment, then Enta sat down at table and bluntly said, "You... sorta lied, man..."
"Oh yeah?" Kora hummed, sipping his whisky. "In what way. I ain't ever lied to ya, man, not now, not ever."
"You said the Oonfather's Patio was closed, but it ain't!" Enta hissed. "I seen the regulars still goin' there - durin' the day no less - and they eatin' fine! Empress Moira, the 'Monster' Gurdy, even Sub-Emperor Napoleon -- and that ballsy li'l shit had the guts to damn near fight with Cutie, tha' Oonfather's Favoured!"
Kora, golden eyes wide, near choked on his drink, slammed the glass back onto the table. "What the hell--?"
"I know, man it's crazy..." Enta breathed, awed. "Little Napoleon fightin' with Cutie - neither backed down - and then he scrapped with Moira, of all Oons, not lettin' her get by!"
"I... I can't even... That's... That ain't right!" Kora said, hushed. "Us males gotta back down to the Matriarchs - that's how it's always been, especially when the bubs are about - but... that guy -- there's something wrong in the head with that Oon! Napoleon what the hell are you doin'?!"
Great Oon Enta shook his head. "We should all be in the woods, now, the Patio shut down... but these are strange times." He shivered, suddenly, wanting to be wrapped up in his new human friend's arms. "Emperor W'Nah still fighting the Terrors, the Oonfather and Napoleon still trying to transition the Court of Oons yet there's a remnant Half-Court still at the Oonfather's Den -- and there are hidden Shadow Raccoons guardin' the place day and night!"
Now Kora was trembling, throat half-bared in submission before he brought himself under control. "Sh-Shadow Raccoons..." he breathed. They weren't supposed to be known -- to Humans, at least. The Great Raccoons knew about them, however -- or... they knew what the Shadow Raccoons wanted them to know.
Rarely heard, let alone seen, the Shadow Raccoons - led by the elusive Great Oon called Nightshade - were thought to be the Covert Agents, perhaps even the Assassins of, Emperor W'Nah, but they weren't. Oh, they served him, and he could command them to a point... but the truth was, no one knew exactly where they had come from.
What little WAS known of them... was horrifying. All you saw was their eyes, glowing in the darkness; the snarl of wicked teeth, and then it was far too late. Any sleight against the Emperor and the Oonfather, from Human or Great Oon, and the Shadow Raccoons would know about it and be there to bring down absolute horror and misery on you to the ends of your days!
Kora sniffled, wiped away tears, shivered. The Cold Cases neither Human nor Oon Police could solve. Those odd banging, 'poltergeist' noises you sometimes heard in old houses. All might possibly be laid at the paws of the Shadow Oons. Kora whimpered, he remembered a wicked laugh from the darkness, the 'playful' nip of a female's teeth to his tail, turning only to find no Raccoon there...
As the sun lowered, the shadows growing deeper and gloomier, Kora and Enta looked about, then to each other one last time. "I... I gotta go," Kora said low to his friend, and Enta nodded, his fur suddenly standing on end. Was... was that an EYE he saw glinting from the shadows? Surely that light reflection hadn't looked like teeth... had it? Little 'baby' noises escaping them, both Great Raccoons turned tail and outright FLED into the night, back to the safety of their human friends.
"Next time, sweetheart," a voice whisper-sighed from the dark, the Shadow Raccoon female licking her lips as she left the scene silent as a ghost. "Next time..."
The plot thickens....

@@OONSDAY I am exactly like you seeing them go hungry compels me to continue doing what I can't stop. We are destroying their habitat which make it harder for them to get food. The park is not very large, and their isn't a water featur?. Are there any fruits tree and nut trees in the park? Such as hackberry, hickory. acorn and beechnut tree,They rely on beechnuts and acorns to survive the cold winter months. For benefit of the wildlife, I planted two hackberry trees and two acorn trees in the park. I am going to plant more next year.
Maybe you should respectfully mind your business as should his nosey neighbor. He's harming no one. Instead of making comments like this try to understand his perspective. He started off feeding birds which is LEGAL. that's when other little forms of life showed up. Humans are taking away their habitat leaving them only small areas of trees with very few resources. When they go scouting for food it's them finding the resources (bird food) to keep from starving. What you don't understand is the raccoons eating in HIS yard is keeping them out of others. The city should be providing areas of sanctuary for these animals every time they tear down sections of their habitat. It's humans creating the deer and everything else showing up in our neighborhood. It's the man's money and time no one else's so why make beans about it? If the law arrested a man feeding wildlife while letting violent criminals walk OUR streets to be repeat offenders then we are screwed.
