  • Picture this: Instead of joining a football academy run by Liverpool, Manchester City, or any other big club in England, a gifted young English player enrolls in a private boarding school in the countryside to train alongside other prospects with the best coaches, physios, and training facilities available. That was precisely what Lilleshall, the FA's school of excellence, offered. This video delves into how the school operated, explores insights from its famous alumni, and discusses the reasons behind its suspension.

    Which current young English player do you think would have won a spot at Lilleshall? 🤔

    Carragher and Owen faced the added hardship of having to learn English on arrival at Lilleshall.

    imagine being surrounded by only 38 peers for 2 years omg... lilleshall must have been so isolating like it's no wonder those boys put their all into football there was literally nothing else they could do 😭

    I love how you always take some topics which are not talked about much and that makes your content unique and different from everyone else on the current football CZcams space(atleast from all I know). Another great video as expected🔥

      @@watchalexander np mate I just found your vids and style very interesting. Just a humble suggestion but maybe you could make a video about the increasing problem of mental health especially with the rise of social media for many players? They many a times are not even able to speak about it due to fear. Just a suggestion tho it depends if you want to make the vid or not.Its your channel after all ;)

      @@watchalexander I mean it's something which has been talked about a bit but not on a large scale. People many times forget players are also human beings and just because they make a lot of money doesn't necessarily mean they are happy

    I never knew about this at all… I always assumed that clubs developed talent from within like La Masia for example, but I had no idea England had this “school of excellence” definitely an interesting topic and its surprising how low the acceptance rate for talent is there when you consider that Owen and Carragher were the biggest names that came out of it and the rest just are unknown. It sort of has a feel to me at least like a football university akin to an Ivy League School like Yale where the admission rates are low.

    “Crème de la crème?”…Michael Owen has always being weird. How did that crème de la crème worked for England all those years especially in the nineties. And they rejected Gerrard and Lampard? Yes it had to go.

    • @heijimikata7181
      @heijimikata7181 Před 22 dny +2

      Agree, most of the best talents of that time in England were being developed by their own club’s youth system anyway, so what’s the point of having a posh VIP club? Rejected Gerrard for being too frail, yet accepted an Owen with legs made out of glass. Carragher also never reached the heights of Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, etc.

    Owen never fails to have a horrible take, even when considering the fate of most of his old academy buddies. Amazing footballing ability, but I fear his general IQ and EQ scores are quite low 😭
