From a RP perspective, Ryujin makes the most sense to do first, because it's hard to believe you can be a stealthy spy-type after becoming a freestar ranger or "hero of the UC".
Becoming a Freestar Ranger first was a hug benefit in 1 of the UC missions.
Plus getting a powerful ship early game is way more helpful than early money/weapons, cuz u can get outclassed in ship combat early & it becomes less about how skilled u are & more about how good is your ship.
You can buy ships with money
I agree the Star Eagle is the dogs bollo* it carries you through most of the game especially if you mod it as you go along.
The star eagle would need level 55 and ship building 4 to recreate. It has all the best rank A level locked parts. Just swap out the lasers for vanguard obliterators. It also upgrades to type b ship very well. Just swap the reactor and grave drive once your level is high enough to buy level b parts that are actually better than the level 50 a parts that you got for free on the star eagle.
Seriously the star eagle with B class level 58 reactor and b class vanguard shields destroys c class ships in combat. It really is the only ship you will need, though you will likely get hooked on ship building and upgrading. I can't tell you how many hours I've spend ship building, min maxing, style building, serpentis ship farming and capturing. I'm only just now about to end ng+1 to start ng+2 and I'm level 111 with over 300 hours played (likely much more considering I've sat for 2-3 hours at a time (and many times at that) or more just ship redesigning and have only ever played on very hard.
If only the game didn't have so many bugs such as the permanent shield bug requiring me to completely sell my ship as the shield system is completely fucked (the ship not the type of shield generator gets bugged with a minus % modifier, example instead of having shields that are 1450 with crew and skill modifier should be 2680 for some reason being 495 even if I remove crew, sell the shield generator and buy a completely different one or even sell the ship then buy it back. It's how I lost my mantis and star eagle for ever)
If I had known about the ship, I would definitely have done the Freestar Collective questline first because I have really been in need of a good ship for a long time.
I have rank 4 in Piloting, along with 1 and 2 points in some of the other ship skills, but the best ship I have been able to find so far is an Ecliptic Claymore. Not an Ecliptic Claymore I, -II, or -III, just Ecliptic Claymore. And I can confirm that you get beaten all over the place from early on, if you don't have a good ship, no matter how good you are at flying and starship battles. I mostly play on Very Hard, but I have tried turning the difficulty level down first to Hard, then to Normal, and then even to Easy, but I still only barely made it on Easy.
I like the Wild West theme, so I think it'll be fun even if it doesn't have the same level of depth as the other factions.
I would recommend not doing UC Vanguard first. Do Ryujin or Freestar. Freestar gets you an incredibly good (spoiler) at the end, and Ryujin, though I don't actually love that mission chain, will get you (spoiler) which will be super useful the remainder of the game. The rewards for Vanguard are good but not really unique or specific (in terms of gameplay. UC Vanguard does have a great reward, it just won't affect gameplay much), and IMO, the story revelations from the UC Vanguard quests are the best part and hit harder if you've been playing the game a little longer, and know the world and the lore a bit more. Do Crimson Fleet last, not because it's bad, but because doing it early will do some stuff in terms of (spoilers) that will make character progression weird.
Freestar and Ryujin have been my favorite faction quest lines. Knowing what I know now I would have done Ryujin first, because it would make all other missions & quest so much easier from the perk you get from that storyline.
I'd at least go far enough into it to get that perk, and then branch out from there.
I couldn’t figure out what faction to pick but I accidentally got arrested after I hijacked a pirate ship so I got thrown into the crimson fleet. It’s not too bad and definitely having fun doing it atm

@@ttgNiqqa it’s either that way or you have contraband that you didn’t hide and they’ll bring you in and ask you to do an uncover mission instead of jail
I’ve been dabbling in them all, but so far the UC is my favorite. Also, this channel is so underrated

I think you are the first I have heard say that the Crimson Fleet questline gives the least of good rewards. I've just completed the Crimson Fleet, and in my opinion, the best reward is the amount of credits that you get at the end. But there are other good rewards that most, I have heard speak about the crimson Fleet, think are great.
One of these rewards is a legendary gun, and it is good, but I don't use it that much because it's only flaw is a low accuracy that you can't change - or, at least I cannot change it.
You also gain access to a room where you can install interior, such as workbenches, and furniture, by using the outpost feature. - You have to find this room on your own, and I only found out about it just now when I watched another video about the factions, so I'm going to go and see if I can find it inside the vast Crimson Fleet space station.
i go with Freestar first because in the UC questline being a ranger takes 90% of the annoyance out of that part, then i went UC, then Ryujin and finished with Crimson because it made everything so much easier. the Star Eagle is a amazing ship and then the UC gear helped me easily get through all the other faction questlines at a relaxed and safe pace

Funny i was doing the same path.
Best Faction to start is Rangers you get an awesome ship at the end now it's no walk in the park you definitely need tons of health.
I like the crimson fleet for my pirate playthrough. It's an easy place to always sell contraband and not have to worry about getting scanned. When you steal ships you fly that ship and if you have contraband then the ship u just stole doesn't have shielded cargo you will always get flagged trying to bring that ship in to sale.
Crimson fleet however don't care and let you in without scans for easy selling of anything you have.
Freestar hands down best to do first. Final reward is well worth it and super helpful at the beginning.
Join Vanguard first, pretty early on you are going to get the best weapon in the game Vanguard Obliterator (does 440dps because you can stack 6 of these monsters into single group), and it gives the best shield you are going to get for a very long time. Each of them like 1 hour into the questline. Rest i dont know about.
I'm new to Starfield and have received the "invitation" to join all the factions you mentioned. I'm currently working on the Crimson Fleet/UC questline (after being caught with harvested organs) with only a couple missions left to complete it. I haven't decided which faction to choose yet but it will be my first, after Constellation of course. I did complete the Mantis questline and received Razerleaf and the Mantis space suit. It's really nice and has some benefits. I was flying to an objective for a mission when I was attacked by a couple ships. After I locked onto one of them one of the ships said something about Mantis...then both ships grav jumped before my first shot. As for the Freestar Rangers...I get a Firefly vibe from the faction so I'll definitely be joining that faction as soon as I finish the UC/Crimson Fleet questline. So far the game has been pretty good...my only complaint so far is that your companions talk too much and at inopportune times...like during a firefight with the Shaw gang. Thanks for the video, it's very helpful and straightforward.

Ryujin is a faction? I just thought I was dicking around and doing some corporate esponiage n' shizz.
I wish theyd do more fun quest lines and give some really fun rewards to make up for joining the crimson fleet. A really cool piraty perk, ship weapons or armor woul be nice.
You can betray SYSDEF and still have your UC perks. I accidentally got kicked out of sysdef, but could still access the simulator and other places in the elevator
while the money you make in the crimson fleet is less
the money overall from having a vendor you can sell stolen good and contraband too
and having easy access to shielded containers and scanner jammers
makes the money you will get from things your already going to do if join the crimson fleet
i.e piracy and smuggling much higher then any direct mission

I did Ryujin first and no regrets, great role playing experience with the neon street rat trait

Also doing the vanguard one you get a penthouse which is a really nice house

I randomly stumbled into ryujin coz I wanted to make money to upgrade my ship but then I realised that I need to make kills with my ship to get better parts so I just joined vanguard to use the simulator to make the kills... I'm just doing whatever in starfield and so far it has worked out really well lol but good to know that vanguard is actually a good place to start, I'll just keep doing their quests then

SPOILERS (Unique ship and gun in ryujin questline)-
I dont know if everyone knows it already but In the ryujin quest line there is a mission where you need to go to a certain city to get information from a informant. You will either have to pay him or do a favor. DO the favor because you might end up with a unique ship and a unique gun. He will send you to eliminate someone but you just have to talk it out with the target, board their ship and ride it after talking things out peacefully. Bring that ship back and it becomes yours and also you get the target's unique gun to keep in the end as well!
Go Freestar. Once you get the ship go Vanguard immediately. After 1st planet (which is a Bi--!) you get access to Great upgrades for your ship. Run ship trainer to unlock pilot levels. Go do some outpost crafting to level, sell the results for credits, run whatever you need to unlock skills. Finish Vanguard.
If you’re doing good-guy, just keep doing mission board of Freestar bounties & Vanguard missions.
If you want to break bad, do Crimson & Ryujin and run rampant.
If not, stick to story & the 2 terminals to level up until you’re happy to … [ending].
Freestar faction - more like a detective type (mid but good rewards)
UC vanguard - monster hunter (personal favourite)
Crimson fleet - secret agent (best)
Ryujin faction - corpo (okay)

Obviously I have my own personal feelings, and I get the Mantis ship, then I tend to do the Freestar collective to get what I will call a step up ship that has much more cargo storage, yes I have level 4 piloting now and level 4 ship thing so I can add anything I want and I'm over level 60. The downside is each time I start a NG+ I have no money :) So maybe I should just do the Crimson fleet after but why, it seems like a complete waste of time. I like killing the bugs, and I like free ships, but it all seems like to much work :)
The ship at the end of the freestar rangers story is an A-class ship, not a C-class, its just a very good A-class ship you can get early

I'd say freestar is the first one to do. The end reward sets you up for the first half of the game.
Crimson fleet are basically raiders from fallout whilst UC is the minutemen.
The pirates are mix of fo4 brotherhood of steel and raiders but they’re closer to brotherhood of steel

The uc is funner imo but I rushed through the freestar for the gun and ship as I'm running a pistol build

Can you join them all in the same playthrough? Because I was planning of being this sort of neutral character that starts in the Vanguard but goes evil with time and ends up with the Crimson Pirates. I picked the perk Neon Rat so maybe I should play the Ryujin quest aswell. What do you guys think?

That's exactly what I did lol, it's technically because your under cover with SysDef, which is like the UC version of FBI. But your right doesn't make the most sense lol
You'll do both ucdef and Crimson Fleet together for a while. However: there will be a point where you'll have to side with one or the other one you get far enough. The game will warn you when this point is reached. At that time, you'll have to pick a side.

@@-G-a-b-r-i-e-l Yup it is pretty simple, you can join all of them and complete them at any pace you want. You can do them all individually or at the same time. And yes, you can get all the rewards from each.

Lorewise the UC doesn’t know what happened to the UC Syfdef, and what kind of role you played in it that because everything was done under the table and off-script your name doesn’t show up in the edvidence. Thats the reason why the UC let’s you in their airspace and spaceports
I wouldn't say there is a best. It all depends on how you are playing the game. Good guy? Bad guy? Pirate? Flip flopping? There is no wrong way.
Slight spoilers the uc is the better one because you get a full set of legendary armor and a mini-gun and other good rewards and as a fun story.

The UC. You get the most perks and running illegal goods doesn't seem worth it unless that's yoyr play style

You can join the Vanguard but not the Marines, when you join the Crimson Fleet you work with Sysdef which is sort of like Marines
You get to a point where all factions like you.
Shame that you can join all of them at the same time. Skyrim angry vibes. Fallout 4 was much better designed that way.

In my opinion it makes it much more entertaining being able to jump back and forth between all of them at the same time
