In this much requested video we pit a Level III+ AR500 ATC plate from Spartan Armor Systems up against some powerful antique firearms, with a couple of surprises in the mix. We know that none these conventional rounds will penetrate the armor, however the energy transfer from these lead bowling balls is rather impressive.

Do you know where I can find a H.E. Leman .30 precussion cap rifle with an octagon barrel? Manufactured from 1842-45. Not a restoration an orginal. Any Ideas?
Just make an AP core out of a tungsten carbide drill bit and fit it into the bullet! This is how you will get penetration!
Literally expecting a bronze chest piece and an oak bronze shield. But hey, this was pretty epic anyways and especially the canon part.
More like iron and bronze chest piece actually....
Tomo Cas same bruh
Tomo Cas same.
Ikr my mind went to the movie 300 automatically
brass for me XD
R.I.P. Ballistic Bob. Thank you for serving the viewers.
God damn I couldnt stop laughing when the smoke cleared, bob had vanished and the table was upright
All of the comments are, "I thought he was going to shoot armor worn by historical Spartans."
me to but was not lying
Yeah ikr
I thought he was gonna shoot Spartan as in Halo Spartans
But spartans did not wear armor
@@sajjadmokdad7744 yea they did
It would be cool to see a body armor test against some of the older AP rounds, like the WW1 8x57 smk for example, to see how they compete against modern armor
I have seen early world war 2 German FMJ ammo punch through half inch stainless plages at 60 yards so maybe it will dent or punch through armor
like if they got a bunch of rifles and rounds together to see which one is the best
It would probably be just as effective as modern AP rounds. You really just have to put a piece of hardened steel or tungsten in a projectile and you're good to go. Drill a hole in a 10 gauge slug, epoxy a piece of a drill shaft into it and you got yourself a very potent AP round.
Check out InRange TV, if I remember correctly, Ian and Karl tested 8x57 and 7.62x54R explosive rounds against armor. Sure, explosive != AP, but you get the idea.
SmK would zip right through this 1/4" AR500 at 100M
Ballistic Bob disliked the video
y bro y
+Chris Kaimann ballistic bob is the ballistic gel...
+TheAlMightyBrick x29 It is called a joke, dipshit
+Borys Sawicki why did he dislike video
You might dislike the video because Eric is not completely honest with sponsorings... I fucking hate it, when gun youtubers do that. Sponsoring is fine, as long as YOU FUCKING SAY THAT A COMPANY SENT U STUFF FOR FREE or even paid you to do a video! FUCK YOU ERIC!
I think the table being stood upright by the cannon, and the following reaction from Eric and Chad is my favorite moment from this entire channel lmao.
I build catapults. I have one that has the same power as your cannon. I have been talking in groups about what a catapult impact would do to plate armor. We don't have the speed to shatter it like that, but I knew it would drive the armor right through a body.
Have you seen that plate armour that was hit by a cannon and killed the guy. In a museum Google it
I'm guessing I wasn't alone in expecting the (replica) armor of an actual Spartan warrior. Still a good video though.
smart clickbait
An Actual Brick I was expecting a replica Spartan armour also
Yeah me too, but then I was thinking, "I didn't even know Spartans wore armor."
ChrisKeaten you sir are quite the dumbass
Yeah I was hoping for old guns vs ancient amour
I guess you can say the trauma pad got "traumatized".
I'm sorry.
Nobody loves me so I make lame puns.
I'll go now.
That pun was traumendous XD
SonsOfLorgar I take it nobody loves you either. Welcome to the club, pal. :D
+TheWanderingChemist oh, some do, because they are just as insane as I am :P
So if you make lame puns BUT somebody loves you, there may be hope for me after all. :D
+TheWanderingChemist yeah! never let that hope die, and remember, the pun train has no brakes! XD
You shot two plates? That's real dedication to the show.. Those things aren't cheap... Thank you!
Apparently, I'm one of the few that he was going to test modern Spartan Armor plates. And when I saw the Martini I thought of the old movie "Zulu" in Michael Caine's first movie.
"A Hill in Korea" was well before "Zulu"
I was hoping for like ancient spartan armor.
Connor Scott same
same
Connor Scott disappointed that it wasn't
i was hoping for halo spartan armor lol
same
Any day a Snider and Martini go up against anything is a great day! Enjoyed that. Cheers.
You would know wouldn't you? Between you and I we've probably logged more rounds of .577-450 than anyone alive. Lol
Agreed love both of those rifles
+Ahmed Ali fuck off sook.
Haha.... Well, I don't know if I have,.... but I'm doing my best to rank among them! What diameter round were you using in the Snider?
+Ahmed Ali what's wrong with his name?
Note to self body armor will not save me from a cannon 😂
Is not suppose to protect you from artillery
Dude, you have to use plasma rifle for spartan armor, ballistic will be stoped by the energy shield.
ziqiao jin lol no bullet that we invented yet would be able to go through a 500 kilo gram heavy titanium armor
ziqiao jin Take the W for that awesome reference!
Racket Tier just, no...... Pls
Define bullet. For instance, does tank ammo count, such as a 150mm HE? If not, then we could use maybe a 30mm rifle. Which does exist, by the way.
Do you know de wae?
Came here expecting historical spartan armor
Liek if u cri evry tiem.
Me to sad
if you want to see someone shoot a bunch of holes in steel, it's all over you tube. this is armor that will save you from a gun shot
+Robert brown Oh you mean bronze? Copper + tin alloy. Bronze age.
Robert brown You sir are an idiot
Its amazing to see how far we've come with firearms to see how powerful they have become
This is great. Laughed my ass off with that cannon. “The tables standing up!” Never seen anything like it. Bravo sir
Oh boy... I'm such an idiot. I thought he was firing rounds from antique rifles into armor worn by Spartans lol. I scratched my head a little when I read the title of the video. You learn something new everyday, I suppose.
Same lol I was like "WTF"
Bob Dole i click on the video for the same reason 😂
where is master chief?
Where is master chief.
Lol Bob Fuck off
As a Brit we don't really have a huge gun culture here so I've never really had an opportunity to see stuff like this in real life. This channel is really fun to watch and you guys are obviously very safe and careful in what you do. Thanks so much.
Wow. Someone actually got me to watch a 17 minute video by my own free will.
Oh sweet jesus that first rifle, making the spent cartridges pop out after every shot must feel so *good*
shoot a ballistic bob with the cannon with out any armour
they did that in the last video.
They did that 5 days ago.
The really scary part is they usually loaded them grape shot and turned them into a big ass shotgun.
What the hell did ballistic bob do to you? ;-D
he should consider Donald trump as target practice
3:02 is that sexual harrasment?
Jake's Eating Show hugh mungus whaaat??!!
Hugh..... Mungus (Feels good man)
Jake's Eating Show are uuu sexual harrasment
Disgusting
HAHA
Love this vid! Thank you for all the hard work you and Chad do to bring us great content!!!
Dude, I'm a fan and a crazy gun enthusiast also watched almost every single gun video out there but, bro, this one was really sick. Thank you so much.
so pro tip. dont get hit by a cannon .
Bryce Hansen I needed this comment
Protip: You can't dodge grapeshot. RUN
or a catapult
Fa Kenews Can't out run it either.
Bryce Hansen I 2nd that motion
How far will a cannon kill?
Eric: Alright we moved back to 3,000 yards and it is still turning the pine board to splinters.
Such a simple channel meant for having fun and education, LOVING IT
you guys really have such an interesting channel. Super entertaining and super informing. You guys keep up the great work.
When I saw this, I thought it was an actual spartan armor from the Greece. I did not know that there was a company called Spartan Armor.
you mean Greece right
ahh sorry I was thinking of the roman shield at the time my bad, yes I meant the Greek armor.
Ye.
Spartans are from rome
Mitchell Rist *Greece
you should make a video about the m1918 tankgewehr
Harley Conley Ammo is rare for them. you get about the same ballistics with a Boys Anti tank rifle.
true
am I the only one wondering where Eric's hearing protection is?
Yes, because no one cares. You where hearing protection in battle?
@@Kevin-ty9hg wear*
...and no you don't, but this isn't battle? So he should wear hearing protection, especially with a cannon. Personally, I don't care that much. It's not my hearing lol
@@Kevin-ty9hg yes, you do wear hearing protection in battle. It's issued before you get deployed. On another note, the company that makes hearing protection for US military is getting sued for defective products and lied about it.
Assuming you have us military aid in battle then yeah, but when fecal matter hits fan the bad guy won't wait for you to get your ears on just saying
This was probably the only person who tested out my old favorite weapons against body armor and i love it
Damn, I thought it was Ancient Greek, actual Spartan amour.
same here
jason walker me too...
Same as well
boi Spartans are roman soldiers they aint greek
fuzzypanther45 when you flunked your history test and are not 100% sure on how to improve so you decide to test your knowledge on the internet for someone to correct your false comment
I was expecting bronze plated armor. Still not dissapointed.
Awesome to watch! Thank you for the testing and the best entertainment around! Guns doing crazy stuff!
Thanks for the video! Your channel is SO much fun!
Is it just me or is Eric ridiculously more happy every time he does a range video? Hahaha
So would you recommend a Parrott Rifle for Home Defense?
Yeah just to be safe
Absolutely. I keep one aimed at the frat house down the street for added insurance against them TPing my house and to ensure maximum compliance when i tell them to turn their music down.
Parrot rifle EDC
i have a 200mm cannon for home defence, it works just fine
It looks like the parrott rifle would be great defense if you were attacked by a home.
great video....love how you bring the fun back into our sport and you definately enjoy your hobby...keep it up
Holy Moly that cannon was awesome!! Great video bro
The really scary part is to think those canons were actually used on a battlefield.
*****
ah.. War Sucks, I still wonder why I like firearms so much. Anyway thanks for the info.
The big difference is that modern artillery use HE rounds. You REALLY don't want to get hit with a 37mm high explosive fragmentation round (though would certainly not be around to contest the issue). There are accounts from WW1 of bits of people in one dugout landing in the other side's trenches from the really big rounds (155mm and up)
Shot at that angle, so it would bounce along the battlefield. Nasty way to go.
+TankT9 yeah and don't forget beehive rounds from 155mm cannons
TEAH THE STEEL WOULD CUT THERE BODY
just found my new ringtone 12:41
LoL
12:57 XD
havent watched that far yet but i guess its the sound from the cannonball hitting the armour plate
when your mom calls and everyone in the McDonalds runs away "I'm getting the heck outa here! BOOM"
I love hearing you guys laugh when you’re doing this stuff. After all, shooting is fun! Thanks Eric and everyone else!
Eric,
This was one of the most enjoyable videos i have watched in weeks. Thanks for the entertainment.
Damn, I didn't know Seth rogan had a gun channel
Yewmad Bro 😂 I was looking for a Seth rogen comment
Yewmad Bro this dude is hillbilly Seth rogan
29)
It's just a racist version of Seth Rogan.
@@PaulRudd1941 dumbass.
put a pipebomb in ballistic bob for a final send off.
I second that!
Slomo
Or tannerite
DetCord would be far better
C4:) boom..
Now thats one pretty awesome piece of armor there, wow. Great vid by the way, love the freakish effects of those rounds.
Brilliant and informative videos as always, love them. Would be interesting to see what "Grape shot" could do to ballistic Bob?. Also, at different ranges too. Excellent vid. Thank you.
so I cant shot my friend with a cannon
😂Probaj sekirom.
Yes
So you can't spell
You can, but you won't have that friend for very long.
Fina zastava
I would luv to see that canon hit more of a hard target like patrol car
Lol.
Just lol.
ar500 plates are far tougher than sheet metal.. even with the interceptor armor upgrades it's still.tougher
+PureCountryof91 even if he shoots the engine block?
+Jalend Venn iron or aluminum? across the block? through the cylinders? the crank? oil pan? yes hiding behind the engine usually saves you. but an iron block cracks with enough force and speed .50 bmg obliterates almost everything.. 12k fpe, 2800fps.. yeah worry then, but rifle rated armor is heavy and most places on a patrol car get shredded by .308 and even some 5.56..
I can hit you too HAHAHAHA
Awesome video again guys!
Very interesting stuff.
That cannon rocks!!
I'm inclined to think you guys are a little bit crazy, but that's what makes your videos so much fun to watch.
"nothing's gonna go through that plate" *shoots it with the cannon* Well maybe except the motherfucking cannon. That thing doesn't give a fuck.
Why on earth would you thumbs down this video? They shot armor with a cannon!
I concur, why would someone do that.
Probably the liberals
DJah Ganjah that is true
Would love to see super slo-mo on your channel. Thanks for making these great videos!
I love that little grin he does after every shot. Just adds to it
I was thinking it was going to be brass spartan armor lol
bronze*
+HDAnimeFightz Kami 80/20 or phosphor bronze?
Fun fact (maybe): I'm no expert, but if I'm remembering correctly the Spartans actually used iron armor, plated in bronze for aesthetics. The golden age of Sparta was during the Iron Age, several hundred years after the Bronze Age.
Eeh thats a tough one, as during that era, you'd have had both bronze and iron in decent supply. Also it doesn't help that there are writings of people with iron armor and weapons, while at the same time we have bronze armor and weapons as artifacts from the era (iron didn't survive so well, rust and all).
Wow. I guess if someone got shot with a cannon like that they would just blow up. Great video. Thanks again. Loved the cannon and didn't expect the plate to crack into fragments.
if you want an idea: www.musee-armee.fr/collections/base-de-donnees-des-collections/objet/cuirasse-du-carabinier-fauveau.html (armor of an heavy cavalry unit shot by a canon)
+Uryendel Wow. That's insane. Ripped through that armor like nothing.
Good news is that I do not expect he felt much after the ball passed thru. The guys behind him likely did not take long either.
If you get hit by a 50bmg you won't be happy either...
If they had armour, the would be send flying few meters with huge hole as the wound, they would die within seconds if hit in the chest or stomach. But if it hit arm, or leg, there was slight chance of survival.
Wow! That was cool. That cannon made my jaw drop with what it did, ofcourse it's really close and all that. But still, Nobody else has done that to any body armor as far as I've seen for a "experiment". really cool!
I watch your videos off and on, but I really like how you've progressed as a person and a channel, well done.
This is one of the coolest gun videos on the internet, hands down. Great Job!
Why don't you use ear protection? I think that those rounds make some pretty loud bangs.
my manliness is my ear protection, I don't need no stinkin earmuffs!
enjoy your deafness
+ZamaskowanyWolnościowiec Hearing is for the weak
whatever
+ZamaskowanyWolnościowiec the joke went over your head
this is my first video I've seen from you, and I thought you meant litetal Spartan armor 😂😂
yo same here I saw this on my recommendation and I'm like I gotta watch this 😂
same here
Thanks for the very fun video, loved the ending!
I love your sense of glee when you shoot up ballistic Bob.
Note to self: Don't get shot with a cannon wearing body armor. Not a fan of steel body armor plates.
I think my favorite thing about these antique weapons is that some of them look so unique. I'm not a collector so I won't own any of these, but they are interesting to look at.
Some of these aren’t even firearms, you can get repros for mid price
this is the best shooting video I've ever seen.....absolutely loved the older weapons and it was a blast..great idea thanks for sharing
These kind of vids are my fav you put out. Fun vids!!!
Note to self do NOT take a cannon blast to the chest
Great test! Greetings from Poland! 😊
I'm impressed that the plate actually stopped the cannon round. Sure, it shattered, but the round didn't actually penetrate it. That's insane!
Dude! Great video!! Thumbs up for sure!!
so super advanced Covenant alien weaponry cant beat the master cheif or his armor but a civil war cannon can...nobody tell the brutes
tell them what sir?
Dino Dino that a cannon can kill master chief.
Wyatt Shelley good thing that hasn't happened to test it (play along and they can't find out)
It was the heretics' todoing!
For those who say "Oh, I wanted it to be ancient Spartan armor. Dislike>:("
Like.. You can almost make a hole in ancient Spartan armor using only spear while throwing it into it.. But bullet.... Shame to y'all people
I wanted it to be halo spartan armor :(
Best video on you tube right now .... you past demo .... ed all of em thanks for this man awesome as hell
I think this is one of the finest channel regarding this type of confrontation. For instructional purposes it would be good to see how a soft armor would do against a strictly flint rifle/pirate guns. we know AR500/spartan would stop anything because of velocity issues but still trying aramid against a full read round ball shot from a flint rifle would be TRULY interesting.
is the parrot rifle a destructive device or a firearm?
Just a giant muzzle loader. Only time you get into DD territory regardless of bore size would be if it were breech loaded and cartridge contained. Front stuffer, good to go.
+Rhocke would probably be too inaccurate
+Geradiel I don't know about that. It's a rifled barrel, so who knows. The sights are pretty crude but I'm sure they could hit s decent sized target at 200-300 yards
because the specifically designed it for a sporting purpose. Shotguns are in that territory too. The small ones that are coming out as "firearms" not destructive devices, or sbs are what I have a hard time wrapping my head around their acceptance by the atf with. Really have me wanting one too.
+vettelover2009 I think they got around it with it being for sporting purpose? same reason why shotguns are legal
Hugh mungus? did you mention Hugh Mungus? DON'T TRIGGER US
Hugh mungus indeed
+Hugh Mungus is that sexual harassment?

Great video! Keep up the good work!
Ballistic gel, armor and antique rifles... what else do I need?
Oh yeah, popcorn, it's gonna be good :)
This is Thrand, awesome video!
I like this guy. Happy and informative.
his reaction after firing the 10 gauge was so pure it had me rolling too lol this guy is a fun to watch
your probably better off not wearing the armor if they bring a cannon,it would be easier for your family to clean up
Proud American yup, and you can move faster, so there is actually a chance to hit the deck in time if you see the crew moving away from the piece before they pull the lanyard or put a match to the touch hole.
Anyway, if someone shooting you with a fucking cannon, there is something wrong with your life.
"Don't try this at home"
Wait until you get to the range, it's safer for everyone... :)
Wow that was amazing man love your videos
I always had a weakness for single shot or double shot rifles and shotguns. Martini henry, double barrel side by side shotguns, the such. That Henry is history in action, and I love it!
You should be using it at 30-80 meters to get that 1 shot kill
Man, I thought you got actual Spartan armour...but the cannon makes up for it
So fun!! That Parrot Field Gun was awesome!
awesome show. keep up the good work. 👍
respect from Malaysia 👌
I thought they were going to test authentic armor that Spartans would have worn.
He said not to try this at home so I guess I'll have too try it at school
