    In this much requested video we pit a Level III+ AR500 ATC plate from Spartan Armor Systems up against some powerful antique firearms, with a couple of surprises in the mix. We know that none these conventional rounds will penetrate the armor, however the energy transfer from these lead bowling balls is rather impressive.

    It would be cool to see a body armor test against some of the older AP rounds, like the WW1 8x57 smk for example, to see how they compete against modern armor

    • @Papperlapappmaul
      @Papperlapappmaul Před 8 lety +3

      It would probably be just as effective as modern AP rounds. You really just have to put a piece of hardened steel or tungsten in a projectile and you're good to go. Drill a hole in a 10 gauge slug, epoxy a piece of a drill shaft into it and you got yourself a very potent AP round.

      Check out InRange TV, if I remember correctly, Ian and Karl tested 8x57 and 7.62x54R explosive rounds against armor. Sure, explosive != AP, but you get the idea.

You REALLY don't want to get hit with a 37mm high explosive fragmentation round (though would certainly not be around to contest the issue). +Jalend Venn iron or aluminum? across the block? through the cylinders? the crank? oil pan? yes hiding behind the engine usually saves you. but an iron block cracks with enough force and speed .50 bmg obliterates almost everything.. 12k fpe, 2800fps.. yeah worry then, but rifle rated armor is heavy and most places on a patrol car get shredded by .308 and even some 5.56..

      Fun fact (maybe): I'm no expert, but if I'm remembering correctly the Spartans actually used iron armor, plated in bronze for aesthetics. The golden age of Sparta was during the Iron Age, several hundred years after the Bronze Age.

    • @linkxsc
      @linkxsc Před 8 lety

      Eeh thats a tough one, as during that era, you'd have had both bronze and iron in decent supply. Also it doesn't help that there are writings of people with iron armor and weapons, while at the same time we have bronze armor and weapons as artifacts from the era (iron didn't survive so well, rust and all).

    I think this is one of the finest channel regarding this type of confrontation. For instructional purposes it would be good to see how a soft armor would do against a strictly flint rifle/pirate guns. we know AR500/spartan would stop anything because of velocity issues but still trying aramid against a full read round ball shot from a flint rifle would be TRULY interesting.
