Season 1 Board Game Menu
Episode 2: 5 Must Have Worker Placement Board Games
Worker Placement Board Games are games that involve players in an action draft where players place workers on action spaces to activate particular actions or effects.
Worker Placement Board games are reminiscent of some of the many popular online video games such as Civilisation where players allocate workers to gather resources, build, train and upgrade building structures, armies and actions.
Players often have to select the action they would like to perform and decide on the timing of when certain actions are resolved or triggered. Players need to decide carefully because other players will often by competing for the same action spaces which can lead to certain actions being blocked out.
Players act as leader and allocate workers to spaces on a board.
The Board Game Sanctuary is a family friendly board game channel that aims to introduce the board gaming hobby to new and seasoned players in a light, fun and humourous way.
Viticulture Essential Edition
Players take on the role of wine makers who are seeking to manage and build a successful winery by allocating workers to plant vines, crush grapes, age wines and fulfil wine orders.
Stone Age
Players visit the stone age where players govern tribe members who gather resources and trade for them to expand their village and civilisation to garner the most victory points possible.
Tzolkin The Mayan Calendar
Tzolkin Mayan Calendar is a dynamic worker placement board game that uses a series of interconnected gears that rotate carry player’s workers to different action spaces on the board with each gear representing a location where Mayans have built. Timing is of the essence as the longer players wait, the more valuable the resources and actions become. Players harvest corn, construct buildings, improve technology and place offerings to the Mayan gods to garner the most victory points to win the game.
Lords of Waterdeep
In Lords of Waterdeep, players take on the role of lords struggling to gain control of Waterdeep, the City of Splendors and thus gain its treasure and resources. Players use their agents to recruit adventurers to go on quests, expand the city by constructing new buildings that provide more actions for players to use and using intrigue cards to disrupt your opponent’s plans. Each lord has a unique victory point condition that can allow players to focus on completing specific types of quests and actions during the game.
Agricola
Agricola is a farming game where players take on the role of farmers struggling to build and expand their own farm. Through harvesting , collecting resources and building farm improvements including fences, extra rooms to house your children, players fight to build the most prosperous farm whilst remembering to feed everyone at the same time.

Very well done video! Short and to the point on each game, while giving a really good overview. Keep up the good work :)
Thanks so much. Humbly appreciative. :D
As a fan of worker placement mechanics, I agree with the list and Its such a coincidence to have them all
Excellent work. I don't know if too many folks would agree
on Agricola or Tzolk'in being for new gamers, though.
Awesome video! Keep up the good work
Thank you so much :)
Lords of Waterdeep NEEDS the Scoundrels of Skullport expansion, even for new players. I couldn't imagine playing without the expansion.
Hey this video was a lot of fun! Great job and love the list.
Thanks so much. Love your channel btw! :D
Hey thanks!
Those gears in Tzolk'in give me AP just looking at it, good god...
yes I would like to paint the gears one day.
Great video. Do you have a Twitter account? I would love to shout out the links to your videos that I'm including into Board Gamer Weekly newsletter. Keep up the good work!
I have an instagram page only :D Thanks for watching. instagram.com/boardgamesanctuary/
Wait, Agricola for new players? Are you trying to scare them off? It's really hard and complicated (although brilliant)! Surely you should start them off with something simpler.
Don't forget you can always start people off with the family version, which really simplifies the game. Thematically speaking Agricola is a great game to start new players with, because farming games are popular with a wider group of people.
@@titusvandussen6303 the family thing makes it ok to new players, but should be mentioned. Also, the actual Family Edition is definitely better for gate way.
Fun list.
Thank You :D
I nearly have them all... still need (and want!!!) Viticulture
the essentials with tuscany expansion is one of my all time favs
I Agricola, can you really place three different animals in the same enclosure? I thought it was only allowed one type of animal within one enclosure ...
You are right. It was a filming error.
What no Carson City?! Good suggestions though!
You have aquascape and board games in a same time too ! :)
Yes I love my aquariums :D
Caverna is much better suited to family play than Agricola I would say.(Less difficult to feed your people ect.)
Thanks for the recommendation! The Agricola Vs Caverna debate continues :D
My list right now is, Agricola, Lords of Waterdeep, Robinson Crusoe, Pursuit of Happiness, and Fresco
I have always wanted to try Pursuit of Happiness. What is it like?
@@BoardGameSanctuary solid worker placement, the real fun is the story it creates. Some strategy and the possibility for optimizing choices. Super thematic.
I loved your video, I think viticulture, stone age, and Tzolking are great and lucky for me, I have played all of them, for Lords of waterdeep I was only able to read the rules but unable to play it, however, I have Champions of Midgard and loved it is an incredible game, I also think that for Agricola, Caverna is a better option, again from the rules as I haven't played either.
I have 3 of 5 games listed... Hehe
ooooh which ones?

Heres my top 5 CAYLUS CAYLUS CAYLUS CAYLUS CAYLUS. Enjoy.
no you're wrong ! the best is Caylus ;) and Orleans ;)
I haven't watched the video yet, but my pics would be Stone Age, Zolk'in, Viticulture, Kanban and the Great Western Trail.
Haha....we matched on the first three. Viticulture and Zolk'in have expansions we always use when we play them. Lords of Waterdeep is another must use expansion (the corruption portion). I've never taken to Agricola...feels just as you get things going with the farm...the game is over. Nice video!
Love Great Western Trail :) Good Picks btw!
Good list, but Caylus is still king. :)
exact ;)
These sound so fun but so complicated to learn...
I probably would've had this list in the opposite order, but that's me.
Can you place different animals together in Agricola?
No.
nope.. you lost me with this agricola..
btw, you would use the mike for wide shots.
Nice reviews. Take a breath once in a while though mate. You talk quite fast! 👍
I will try! Sometimes there so many rules to get through :)
Its difficult to hear you with the echo of the room, I don't know why you do that
played all except LoW, and they are ok. You only need one actually, and I think viticulture essential is the one with the highest long term interest which plays in a reasonable amount of time. Tzolkin is only fun the first 3-4 times, nobody plays it any more. Agricola is too boring.
