Happy New Year and welcome to 2021 - this video is signifcantly longer than 2 mins but a really useful set of functionality - How many of you use auto bracketing for exposure? When do you find it useful?

I'm just learning about auto-bracketing. What I did, was set up hi continuous for the number of exposers that is equal to the AE number of shots, thereby avoiding guessing or inadvertently pressing the shutter release again mid stream. Maybe over kill but keeps me focused on what I'm doing.

Thanks for the informative video. I use auto bracketing quite often and have it set to the Fn2 button. Generally in conjunction with continuous high for hand held and single shots when using for merged panoramas on a tripod.

It's really useful in situations where there is a high dynamic range so the test you suggest might be good. You may have to play with extending the stops between shots to get it right for the level of contrast between the dark interior and the bright exit👍

I have U2 set for auto bracketing and as part of that set of settings, I have the prefix of the bracketed photos changed to “BKT” from “DSCN” and placed into a folder “BKT”.

Hi, not tried this on my newly acquired Z7 yet, but I do know that on my D610 instead of having to press the fire button for every shot
of a bracketing sequenz, if you set the mode dial to self timer the programmed number of shots will be taken automatically without having
having to touch the camera between shots. Do it in live view too and there is no camera shake on a DSLR.

I use auto bracketing for shooting the majority of my real estate photos. Was hoping you could of gone more in depth on the ae & flash bracketing setting as I've been incorporating flash into my shoots and wanted to understand this setting and how it could apply to what I do. I cant find anything on the web that covers that particular setting in depth or at all.

Just bought a Nikon Zfc, which is basically a Z50. Having exposure bracketing is amazing on this camera, I'm surprised Nikon offers this on their entry level mirrorless line. My D3300 can't do this, as it was entry level as well, and the D7200 is the semi pro DX DSLR, which has this. Going to sell my D7200, and yes I do have that risk of one SD card slot, but I'm going to get a Z7 or Z9 in the future & I'll worry about it then.

Can I use exposure bracketing with the electronic shutter on?

  • @conraddeetjen6715

I really don't like that one press of the shutter button release doesn't take the sequence of bracketed shots when "auto bracketing" is used. The process is not completely automated. I find it inconvenient to have to monitor show many shots are taking place. Done it several times and accidentally began a new series of bracketed shots on several occasions.

Have you set your camera to shoot the amount of bracketed images you want to take by pressing the shutter button once? Go to i on the back of your camera, then go to release mode then select h.

    Hi. Good video. Thanks.
I have a question for you.
I need to take 13 exposures with my Nikon Z6ii from 1/1000th to 4 seconds. This is for HDR photography of the eclipse. I have SnapBridge and I’d like to set this up for a remote exposure without touching the camera.
Can you tell me how this can be achieved?
I’d really appreciate it. The camera is new and I’m used to my old Nikon FTN film camera, so yea, I’m an old geezer.
    Thanks,
    Paul

There is an anomaly in Auto bracketing AE mode (Nikon Z6). AE bracketing has three variable modes 1. Variable Exposure, 2. Variable Speed, 3. Variable ISO. If one of the modes is selected other two functions should be fixed. For example, if a variable exposure is required, the camera would not change the speed or ISO. If a variable speed is required the camera would not change the exposure or ISO. In manual mode, the speed and exposure are fixed and the ISO is set to auto. I would expect the camera should vary the ISO value. But the camera DOES NOT vary the ISO value but varies the speed instead keeping ISO fixed. I found this is very annoying. I am not sure if there is a bug in the software. I do not think it is by design. If this is so then AE bracketing with manual focus should be greyed out.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. Do you know if there's a way to have it take all three bracketed exposures with just a single press and release of the shutter button and not having to hold the button down for all three exposures? A friend of mine shoots with the Canon R5 and she just has the press and release the shutter button and it will take all three bracketed exposures.
