    Those slalom instructions and tips were perfectly performed and described, and being a qualified Windsurfing instructor who ran my own school/business during the mid 1980s I still have a passion for the sport, and I'm delighted to see and hear other tutors descriptions of it also.

    Now that you've got a new sponsor it would be awesome to get more insight into beginner gear. This sport doesn't have much content to help beginners. It's all video lessons or marketing material. I just want to see some boards compared and their features explained.

    • @Premed1981

      @@Premed1981 Even starboard alone makes more than 4 boards for beginners. Part of why it's so confusing. The marketing for each board contradicts the others.

    It's been going great! This will be 1 year for me and I managed to get to four straps + Harness planing last fall and now going to higher winds. Had that 'AH-HA!' moment last week when I transitioned from the on-top of board to side of board moment. (Had enough wind constant to explore for full runs)
    Now need to re-learn getting back foot in. Great tips!

    I used to speed sail in the mid 80's. The main flat water speed mode was "Close the gap"(space from the bottom foot to board). We had different board bottoms for different wave conditions. Flat was faster but double concave to a slight V was the most controllable in chop.

    Don´t understand why to sheet out when a gust hits? Normally this would take pressure of mastfoot making the nose to come up and make board to rise out of water, loose control and crash. Why not sheet in as much as possible to create pressure to boardnose and prevent noselift and crash. Why not go more downwind when gust hits and more upwind when lull comes, when going on a slight reach course, not broad reach.

    I have recently stepped up to slalom gear after 20 years on Freestyle wave boards only. at 55 years old my sole focus is speed this season. I have been able to fly the board on the fin. Also, first time in 15 years or more using cambered sails so getting used to that more constant pull. Now working on sail tuning to maximize speed while still maintaining control. Loving it!

    • @FrancoisTCS
      @FrancoisTCS Před 3 lety

      Yes but not always. The tune of the sail is important to get the right lift, the mast foot position on the board also.
      Something you don't really mention, @Nico Prien, is that this works better when one is seriously powered by the sail. You, PWA sailors, are always overpowered compared to amateurs like us. 🤨🤔
      So it really depends on the setup and the wind.

  • @team3383

    I think its all up to the individual windsurfer Nico. No need to get too technical. All boards come with standardized foot strap holes and whether you like it or not, THATS what you have to play with.
    Customs boards are much better. You get a board that is set up for YOU; BUT they can't keep up the volume.
    The reason starboard have shortened the mast foot is as you say: it only ever moves 4cm maximum back or forth depending on the length of the board.
    The rest is just a juggle for each's individual needs and windsurfing stance.
    Nice promotional video.
    Cheers.

      Well this is actualy a good question. Especially if the speed is above 60km/h , it is difficult to change direction or stop. The pressure on the back off the board is so high you need to slowdown first and then change direction or brake This is a known issue under speedsurfers. So give them room when they are at high speed.

    long Mastbase really important for budget-surfer😂
    i only have an 72cm Slalom Board so in strong wind i take an 6.0 Sail and go for it (its recommended to 7.0)
    and to have proper fun with such a small sail i sometimes have to put the mast all the way to the Front 🤷
    just saying its good to have you covered with more mast base than usally needed👌

    Hi Nico I have learned a lot of all your video's but I stil have a problem. When I'm plaining and try to make more speed as you sad 'to fly with your board' it's hard to keep your hight. So my question is, what is the balance between speed and not getting loses al off your hight. because I hate going up wind because it is most of the time slow and a little boring.

    • @FrancoisTCS
      @FrancoisTCS Před 3 lety

      You need to push on the front leg for the board to stay cross wind and open your sail a bit. Depending on your gear, it is recommended to go a little downwind to set yourself in the straps and gain speed, then start to head cross wind or upwind.

    • @facundolopez1792
      @facundolopez1792 Před 2 lety

      Think that you realise pressure from your front foot, so you end up pushing only with your back foot going upwind, try to compensate putting more pressure on the harness and through the mast, while you step into the front strap.
