Cheapest Golf Ball at Walmart (Nitro Golf Ball Review)

- We headed out to America's favorite local golf store to support local.... Nope we went out to Walmart to find the cheapest golf ball and test it out. In this Nitro golf ball review we test distance, spin and feel. After that we compare the Nitro golf ball against a premium golf ball (Srixon Z Star).
This might be the ultimate cheap vs expensive golf ball challenge. I was curious to see if a cheap golf ball really makes a difference in scoring. Sure the Walmart golf ball is not going to spin or feel as good as the Srixon but will impact the score? To find out we played 3 holes of match play to get some in depth Nitro ball testing.
Based on our golf ball review was the Nitro the best distance golf ball of 2019, the best cheap golf ball of 2019, or was it total p@@p? Find out!

No launch monitor? Walmart budget? Yet you say it's not scientific... HA! You tested it in the same conditions most of us live and play. It's the most scientific test I've found on CZcams. :)
Thanks man! I really appreciate the kind words 👍
I see where Stacked is coming from on not the most scientific test. Both balls played well and showed a bit of difference. A truly scientific test would need to eliminate variables such as changing wind speed/direction and player error. This was a great video that in my opinion shows that it is more often wind or the player that determines the game not the ball. Thank you fo the video Stacked. Keep it up!

No it isn't. There is a built in bias when he hits his preffered ball. It they where the same color and he didn't know which one he was hitting it may mean something. He is right. Nothing scientific about it.
@@ericwarner3150 Right, this test should have been done "blind", with the same color ball and identifying marks removed. Also, the "control" ball should not have been his favorite (Srixon), maybe go with a V1X so it doesn't seem too familiar. A friend could have put color dots on each one to be able to identify which ball is which. Only after he's done testing would he be allowed to know which ball was which.
I only use the expensive balls I find in the woods
Lol
Lol
Do you find ticks too?
yeah, I find a lot of those too. it is sad, though, that I am so often where those balls are to be found.
Lol I dont golf yet but I know this is how I will be. I barely buy baseballs for the nephews, I just find them in woods by baseball fields lmao
I remember watching this 4 years ago 😂 man time flies!! So dope to see what this channel has become
I buy all of my golf balls at walmart. When i first started playing, they sell 50 ct bags of recycled balls for $15 which is perfect for beginners.
I paid a little more for the x-outs. They were new, but either defective (though I couldn't detect it) or just debranded. They certainly weren't good golf balls, but when I started I kept score by the number of balls I lost in a round - anything under 10 was okay!
I'm new to golf, been playing about a year, 2-3 times a month. Haven't played a single game using new balls, and most have been beat up, weathered range balls with gouges in them. I'm 100% convinced that balls and clubs have maybe a combined 3% effect on your golf game unless they're bent, cracked or warped. Age and normal cosmetic wear, as well as ball construction and softness are pretty much a nonfactor if you learn to use the right club and work on your technique. In a year I went from averaging around 116 to getting my first 85 the other day, and it included a birdie and 5 pars. Used the same weathered range ball the entire day. Picked up 300 old worn out balls on Facebook for $20, threw away the oblong warped and cracked ones. Had about 250 left over. I use a $20 used set of 15-year-old clubs that actually came in a nice bag with 20 balls and like 150 tees that sat in a dude's garage for 12 years collecting dust. It's all technique, in my opinion.
The Nitro wins due to cost difference. 1 stroke is more golfer error than ball quality.
Exactly my thought as well. He could have played 5 balls each of each brand and come up with an average difference which would have eliminated some of the human element. A lot of times the cheaper golf balls won't hold up for more than 1 round I've found. Probably because of the cover isn't the same material as a Srixon.
I agree.
@@jonathanstoner677 Usually the more expensive balls don't hold up as well. The softer urethane cover of the higher priced balls increases control but decreases durability.
The cover on the NITRO balls are crap. I usually put gashes or shave off parts of the cover every round.
Golf is so mental that just thinking your not gonna hit the nitro as well will make you do just that. Im a pro v1x guy, but i like the srixon.
I’m starting to play well, low 80s every round, and all I buy are nitros. They go 275 yards every drive just fine. Can’t justify price of $44 a dozen balls. I use whatever I find, I see zero difference in any of them
F**king Legend
All i use is nitro I am not good enough to see a difference
I love them, they are plenty soft.
Have you tried the Pulsars? for a few extra bucks, those add great feel and distance.
Ditto
Come up 20 yards short?? "Ahh! It's these cheap golf balls..." Hook drive into creek. "Ahh! It's these cheap golf balls..." Miss a 3 footer by a foot? "Ahh! It's these cheap golf balls..." Best excuse there is. (it's like when the pro's yank one...the pond is like glass... and they start yelling "HIT IT, WIND!!")
My excuse game is pro level 😎
I feel that your test is very legit. The outcome, I feel that Nitro won based on cost. Since you play on tournaments, obviously you gotta play the higher tier ball. But for the high handicapper/weekend wannabe's, Nitro it's a bargain.
Funny, I was watching your recent video where you mentioned this video, and the next time I go on CZcams, it’s the first suggested video! Interesting to see how the channel has evolved. I’ve seen this video before, I’ve been watching since you had around maybe less than 5,000 subscribers. You should do some more golf ball comparisons now. But I am glad Ashley is now half the channel instead of just in the background like in this video. Your interactions with each other are sweet and it is always pleasant to watch how nice you are to each other.
I read a lot of the comments here and a lot of everyone's opinions about golf balls are really good too. My take is it's better to have a good swing with suited clubs and a great plan for each hole than worry about what name is on any of your equipment including balls. I normally buy used balls by the bag full and sort them myself, throwing out the ones that are not in decent condition and I have found that just about any brand of ball can play well. If you are playing a tournament or for money, use a ball you feel comfortable with. Otherwise, I don't think it matters too much as Jon has shown here. By the way, I'm a low handicap and also a golf club builder and repairman. I just really enjoy golf
Compared to my Walmart yours is like Golf Galaxy’s
No shit lol
I always buy gloves there
I literally have one 4x6ft section at mine. Get some gloves, balls, and tees there
when I was in NY the green acres walmart was full of people and empty of products
For a weekend player Nitros are awesome 👏 get my practice in and don’t really care if I loose one or two once in a while
I had my first hole in one using a Nitro. It's a spring ball,$5.00 a dozen you don't mind losing it.
Congrats on the hole in one! 👍
I began using the Srixon Z about 6 months ago...amazing ball. I went from a 7 handicap to a 2! 🤙🏽
Nice evaluation!
In my experience as I was given a few Nitro Crossfires to try and found they surprisingly weren't too bad either. Guess' even the budget balls are getting pretty playable nowadays!
My first clubs were a set of Wilson clubs with bag, driver, 3-5 woods 3-9 irons, putter and cart that my dad bought at Walmart all for $70 only in the 90s and never really used. I found them in the basement and started playing with them in 2009 as a complete beginner. After a few months of use, one day at the driving range I smash one with my 7 iron and hear this loud crack and I look at my club and lo and behold the head was missing. It had been completely ripped off by the strike. That's when I realized I needed to get actual clubs and I got my first set of Pings. So there you go, my cheap golf equipment Walmart story.
Nitros, when they came out 20 years ago, were illegal because they traveled too far and couldn’t be used in competition.
I buy a bag of Wilsons 24 count for $10 at Walmart. Normally on the bottom shelf. Try those out.
Nice I will have to give those a try too
Jonathan Pamp I like to buy them when I go to Kissimmee on holiday, that is the first place I go to when I get there, Walmart and Taco Bell 🤣🤣👍🏼👍🏼🏌🏼♂️🏌🏼♂️🌮🌮
My club sells me Titlist pro vi for 48.00 a dozen. Maybe I'll go to Wall Mart this week.
I bought the yellow Wilsons in the bag of 24 for 10.99 at Walmart.., and compared those to the orange Ultimate Distance Nitros (battle of el cheapo balls). Although the Nitros held their own...they looked real beat up compared to the Wilsons after a few rounds...my vote is for the Bag O' Wilsons as the best Walmart golf ball!
Money is money, I buy recycled Prov 1x at less than half price when I have extra money. Pinnacle soft is my favorite golf ball from Walmart.
I’d rather have save on golf balls and play more rounds of golf.
This was a realistic test it’s how me roll lol! Great video guys
Great video a lot of fun to watch. Thank you for settling my internal argument 4-10 yards further doesn't make a difference for me. But the fact that a 50 cent ball performs just as well one that costs 2.50 makes a huge difference. For those of us that lose a few balls it adds a round or two per year without changing your score.
For sure. I would rather play an ok ball than an expensive ball if it meant more golf
I'd rather pay more for a good ball than pay less for a bad ball but I don't lose too many off the tee, it's the other shots I mess up lol. That being said I do shop around or go around the course looking for balls I like
I hit NITRO, and play it until I lose it, I don't stop playing it for a few scuff marks, they hold the green just as good as a ProV1, they really check up, and putts real good. When I find a ProV1, I give it to my playing partner, for $5.99 a dozen, and checks up just as good as a ProV1, and way further off the tee. How can you lose? I've won in Tournaments, NITRO. If you are a Senior, or low clubhead speed, get NITRO. If you are a bomber, then go PROV1, but test it, you might be surprised, PRIDE will cost you $60 a dozen, but MEEKNESS will cost you only $6.00 a dozen, and just as good or better game.
I have used the Nitros for the last two years and I have dropped my score by 5 strokes in the last year. I love these things!
I know a scratch golfer that shoots par with pro V1's, and also shoots par with recycled Walmart balls lol
When you dumped the whole box of pink balls out, I laughed out loud and subscribed!
I just bought a pack of these at Walmart yesterday. But I bought the orange ones. Probably should have watched the video first. Guess it’s only $6 as opposed to my usual Taylormade TP5X at $43
Man its not the golfball. It's the player. The ball makes minimal difference. Not enough to notice.
Met you on Passion's live and came over to show you my support. My son-in-law is a head golf pro. Thankfully he gets all clothing, clubs, balls and everything you can think of for free, and everything is replaced each season
The answer, my friends, is blowing in the wind-
the answer is blowing in the wind .
All we are is dust in the wind.
Your wlmart ball swing was way different conpaired to the 30 dollar one on tee
I bought the same golf ball, and even though it’s one of the cheapest golf balls I can buy, it’s better than the most expensive mini golf ball I can find :) (for mini golf)
Sounds like you could be chrisfix brother😂 great video
Jon, i love that driver swing, looks awesome. Gotta be honest w you, I dont think you can post a video on SG w/o Ash.
I dont got a launch monitor I got a Walmart budget lol. I feel it dude
Really enjoyed the video ! I agree with not using these in a tournament but for beginner play there okay ! I personally use the Nitro pulsar ! Would be great to get a second opinion on how they stack up . I know the distance isn't there but the feel isn't bad at all !
If youre playing those balls, 12 is how many you need in a sleeve for a round.
A lot of us senior players use OP's. We get them in the bushes and ponds of our local courses:)
We hit them inconsistently, so the difference is negligible.
That's where I get most of mine too. 5 minutes in the woods on my home course = 1 week of balls 👍
@@StackedGolf That's why the telescoping ball retriever is the most valuable club in the bag.
I think the big differences are with feel and how they repsond on the greens!! They sounded no different when being hit with the driver!!
You mentioned the Nitro balls felt cheap like putt putt-mini golf balls. Can you do a video of putt putt golf balls vs the Srixon golf ball?
These golf companies are marketing machines.....I had 400 bucks burning a hole in my pocket....went in to by the Epic Driver and replace my Xr and it was terrible for me. It really is game specific. Make sure you get on launch monitors before you spend your money on anything golf. Again they are just marketing machines telling us what we should buy. Great Video
So true! Plus, I always like to get stuff out on the course. The closest launch monitor to my house doesn't even record ball speed. Kind of a bummer seeing how all the new clubs this year were promising more ball speed 😎
Xr is surprisingly a great driver
I normally game the Titleist NXT Tour golf ball but I try to keep a few of the Nitro yellow balls with me. I play late in the day sometimes and have finished in near dark conditions. That's when the Nitros come out. I have noticed little difference. I little less spin off short irons. I actually feel I get a little more distance with most irons. About the same with the driver.
I found a Nitro one day on our course and started using it and began hitting it further than my Snell and Pro V1 balls. I went on line to see what the deal was with Nitronad where I could get some and noticed that Wal Mart sold them. So I have been hitting them ever since. When I lose one, I really do not care as it is a .50 ct. ball! The only negative is the covers get nicked up more than the expensive balls. If you are a regular, but recreational golfer, buy the Nitros and buy a nice bottle of Bourbon with the cash you save......
I play Nitro golf balls all the time. They go every bit as far as my Wilson duos, my prov1x and my TM Penta TP5s. I also play the TM distance+ these along with the Nitros feel like hitting a rock but I don't worry to much if I loose a couple during a round. Great video.
Thanks man! I appreciate it! I still need to try the TM distance balls. They look good
“Walmart budget” 😂 love this video. Keep making more!
I think you should play two balls that you don't know which is which. One would be your ball and the other can be various brands.
There was a cheaper Nitro golf ball just below the pink ones you bought. A box of 45 golf balls for 19.99 a box. If I am going to hit a ball into the water or woods never to be found again, I would rather it be a cheap one than an expensive one. It's not always the equipment, usually the skill level of the player. I can buy a set of Pings for some outrageous price and not play any better than I would with a set of clubs for a third of the price.
John Straub There’s hundreds of yet done on CZcams. Watch them. Better balls and better clubs are more effective than you think. If you’re playing with a set of clubs that aren’t designed for your distance or body won’t play as good
I used Nitros for several years, but changed to more expensive balls a couple of years ago. (Bridgestone e6 and Srixon Q-Star). The biggest difference is that better golf balls hold the green a lot better. When I was hitting Nitros and landed a short iron on the green from 100-150 it seemed like it would always take a few hops and end up 20-50 feet from my ball mark, whereas the better balls end up within 3 FEET of my ball mark. I don't lose a lot of balls so for me it's worth it to pay $1.50 for a better ball.
I buy Callaway gloves there in the off-season, $5, I get 8-10 gloves and I'm set for months...the off season here in Virginia is Dec-April, in Wal-Mart terms.
Is this your first video on your channel or when was your 1st video.? I dont see Ashely and this is as far as I can go back. I only see 138 videos. Thank you.
Check out the Decathlon video on their balls, very interesting, they make £4.99 dozen balls up to a premium model,. Intuitively, i feel it would be better to use a new cheap ball than a knackered PV1
I usually get the B-A grade refurbished balls. 24 good balls for 15-20 bucks is unbeatable when you tend to lose a few a round
I started using pink Nitro balls, too. These are not bad for regular play. The big difference between Nitro and a known "brand" is the durability of the outer shell. Nitro balls do not hold up to beatings from many irons shots.
I doubt if you can control any ball in the wind
Those Wilson Zips are one of the best cheap balls I have found.
I'll have to try those out!
I just hit a round rock, this is luxury I cannot afford.
Coming through with with much love and support to you. I saw you in Farmell. I always wanted to learn how to golf. I love to go to Top Golf. I can't wait for your next one. Much love to you!!!
I like the wilson titanium at walmart 18 balls for $9 something really nice feel to em
Ok, Let's get something straight, John. No more videos without Chipmunk. Half the reason I watch is to see her smile. No more, John, no more.
When I first started golfing Walmart sold x-out balls super cheap. One day I went out to play a tough course (one where I'd lost at least 20 balls the first time I played it) and so I loaded up my cart with all the x-outs the local Walmart had (at least 60). Then I lost 0 balls on the round...
Gotta love golf! Hitting a slice to the right all day? Aim left... snap hook 😎
@@StackedGolf Or topping the ball into the water twice followed by hitting it so far over the green that it lands in the water on the other side.
I've gotten enough better so I miss smaller, but I've also gotten enough older that my eyesight is worse. I now play with those radioactive red golf balls (Volvik and Calloway make them), and at least those I can usually find.
3 minutes in the woods today yielded 9 real nice balls, ya love the Srixons and Taylormades.
I played yesterday and found a pink Nitro while looking for my lost Titleist NXT Tour. I played it for grins on a par 3 and the dang thing worked for a par. Not too great, but, like you said, not the worst ball I’ve ever used. Probably worth the money if I didn’t know better.
I wish you said "match play" just one more time. I would have been hammered. You're videos create fun drinking games. "Srixon" will be next
John, neat video, one can see how your videos have improved over time. Where’s Ashley? I guess was was a BA video, Before Ashley joined the videos. I thought I did see her in the background one the par 5. Ken
I started with the NITRO golf balls. They perform just fine but even without hitting anything, other than the fairway, the cover starts to get gashes and shaves off.
I usually use 2 balls a round and with these NITRO balls I end up throwing them in my practice ball bag because they're destroyed.
If you're at a skill level where you don't lose golf balls these won't last you long.
Would like to see a touring pro do this. May be very telling.
I would play a Nitro over the TopFlight, the most lost ball in golf.
Pink is my favorite color, but I have found that if I fix my divots God smiles on me.
I might need to switch to pink balls. Played pretty well with them
I use NITRO quite often. I actually like them very much. If you are good you should be able to play any ball. If your not that good, it shouldn't matter anyway....and you will save some money. It's a win-win.
The biggest problem with Nitros is that they scuff easily. A new ball will last you only about three holes before it's too scuffed to keep using. While you save money up front, the savings is not as great once you realize you might be going through 3-4 of them per nine holes.
Essentially, as far as amateurs go, a ball is a ball.
Jeff S. I totally agree. I’ve played $30 a dozen balls down to the same nitros he’s using. Just shot a 73 with the nitro so I’d say it doesn’t matter much at all
Totally agree. I find "expensive" golf balls all the time. I can't tell the difference because my game is average at best.
Not with these shitty Nitros bro. I hit a chrome soft further with my 3 iron than I can hit a nitro with my Taylor Made driver
the nitro seems to be less responsive off the club. it also looks like there less of a feel when it comes to the short game it is a good ball for the price but i would also say it would be a good water ball.
I do need some water balls 👍
Tiger won US open at Pebble because his ball was better in the wind as well. Great comment. I found a Kirkland golf ball and love it. Too bad they are hard to find.
Go to any costco in a golfing community
the other day at the range there were some nitro balls in the bucket and i could not believe how far they went, POWWW!!!
I frequently find these Nitro's on the golf course. Now I know why. Very inexpensive ! Hope you two had an awesome weekend. Spider Dubiel
I am a first year golfer. I have been playing the Nitros just simply because I am horrible. But I dont mind playing these balls so far.
I love the pink Nitro. Some of my best shots ever are with that ball. I think its the ball and color combo that helps me hit the ball better.
Nitro used to be the ball of choice for long drivers then came along pinnacle’s.
*Volvik
I bought some tees there because I needed some tall ones. Also, Nitro is the brand of clubs WalMart sells. I bought some orange ones at Dunham's Sports except they were actually in 3 pack sleeves
Hey bro, on the pitch shot you should’ve a camera so we can see the spin action
Thanks for the tip! I've started doing that more recently and it looks great 👍
Is this the first video ever? Trying to watch them all!!! And see how things have changed lol
Bro try the Taylormare Distance+ and make a review on them people doesn’t realize how good they are.
Great video budget golfers thank you for it
Will do! Taylormade mid range balls are such a good deal.
Next try the Wilson's in the red mesh bag....24 for $10..
Wow that's a good deal! I'll have to try those for sure
Look out for Clearance deals. Picked up a bunch of Taylor Made Aeroburners for $5 a dozen
That is what I use.
No way! You played at plantation bay? My grandpa lives on the course and he took me to play there. Such a great course. And I have the same hat too btw😂
New friend here from Farmall, I'm an avid golfer, I practice and play everyday. Glad to find your channel.
I used to play Bridgestone E6 balls until I was introduced to the Kirkland Signature golf balls. I would usually pay aprox $27 / dozen for Bridgestones. But Kirkland's come in a two dozen package and cost roughly the same. The only difference is that it can be difficult to buy Kirkland's..they are only available through COSTCO.
I've done that same test, Nitro vs pro v1 on my home course hole number 4 (par 5) and it wasn't close. Nitro was 20yds shorter on the drive. Every shot was shorter to some degree!
Hey brother new to your channel. i saw you on Farmall Fanatic's lie stream and just had to show you love. You know the closest thing that I've gotten to playing golf is miniature golf and that was so much. Honestly brother you have me wanting to take golf lessons now.
99.9%of golfers are idiots when it comes to equipment. The swing is the thing .lessons to fix your swing is the best money spent .practice to fix your swing .is the next best .thing .
Confirm ur allowed to film? Bro it’s America u can film anywere ya want for most part . Love ur channel keep up the good work
*I love any store that will save me 18% on my grocery shopping budget!*
That's only because it's 18% real food.
I shoot nitros so I don't feel bad when I put them in the creek that meanders through the course. I have used "fancy" balls and immediately lost them, so as a duffer, I don't need $30+ balls to have fun.
Hmm......moral of the story? If you are an old, wealthy person, or young and really good at golf, then go ahead and pay 5X as much for the expensive balls.......you can afford it (or you have earned it)......................But, if you are like the other 95 percent of us golfers............The $6 Nitros won't disrupt YOUR GAME.
Jon & Ash, looking forward to this type of coverage some of the times with you both playing alongside testing golf balls. 😅🤗
Hello there met you at Farmall Fanatic’s Live. Thank you for stopping by my place. 👍🏼
No problem, looking forward to more videos
I like the plastic pro fit tees from there. We’re cheaper than my local golf store.
No Ashley on this episode? I just watched this today.
Guy hits 170 yard shot into wind ends up 20 yards short. Hit 150 yard shot with same club into wind on green. Blames ball...😂
Expensive balls are probably a waste of money for the average golfer. I don’t even bother with the new ones, I get them used on OfferUp. Most of them clean up just fine after a soak and brush up in soapy water.
My golf game is not good enough to ever notice a difference is spin, control, or distance from a golf ball
Gloves, tees and Pinnacle golf balls. The original Pinnacle Exception was hard to beat at any price...the poor man's Pro-V.
Great video I’m glad I went back and watched this
