2k games were trying so hard to be "realistic" , they forgot to put in a gameplay in their "games". Sure they look stunning, but i bought a *game* so i can *play* it, if i want to watch, then i go watch the ppv in real life.
HCtP is without a doubt, one of the best, if not the best WWE game ever made.
Fun to play, visually appealing without need for "realistic" factors , fast paced and hyperbolic. Sure it doesnt have the amazing graphics, but its got a pretty good visual for the time, the sfx are satisfying, and there is so much fun to be had with the crazy amount of weird features like fighting with a forklift and motorcycles.
I miss these kinds of WWE games.

I'd argue against that.
2k's games, by going for more realism, made the actual in ring gameplay more than just spamming counters and big moves. There's some amount of thought, tactics and psychology in their games that's missing from these older games that are just spot fests. You see everything there is to see in one match in HCTP. Why do you think nobody plays the basic singles or tag matches in HCTP? Instead opting for the wacky gimmick matches? Because these basic matches are so shallow in the games. That's where the 2k games shine. Both the gimmick matches and the basic matches are fun to play given the more advanced gameplay. You get the sense of fighting in kayfabe how the Wrestlers actually would.
In addition, I'd argue all the extra gimmicks HCTP has like forklifts and motorcycles and jumping off the titantron betray the appeal of Wrestling. Wrestling is about the kayfabe storytelling during matches rather than just doing big spots back to back. It's why Micheals vs Undertaker at WM25 is regarded as amazing while Lesner v Goldberg at WMXX isn't. The 2k games get you much closer to the former while HCTP goes for the latter.
Plus, the 2k games have more modes, content and features.
Booker T's Axe Kick is the most underrated finisher IMO. Looks awesome every time.

I know what he did was messed up but he was a good wrestler. That match at Wrestlemania 20 between him, HHH, and HBK is one of my favorite matches. Watching Chris and Eddie Guerrero celebrate with their championships at the end of the match makes me cry every time I watch it.

11 years and still easily the greatest wrestling game of all time. The mechanics, the effects, 2k15 could never hold a candle to this masterpiece. The moves are so much more crisp and impactful. Comparing the rocks moveset here to his 2k series moveset is like night and day

They never get the jacknife right. Nash doesn't bomb/slam them, he literally drops them from huge height.
The impact on the moves of these games made by THQ were just so more dramatic and satisfying. I that along with the more arcade like gameplay made these game more of a joy to play than some of the newer wrestlers.
Yukes was always developer. They got lazier following THQ's bankruptcy & eventually split from 2K mid-development this year out of discontent with the direction of the WWE Games license.
I miss this Goldberg spear. The one they use now is bullshit.

What I liked about SmackDown Here Comes the Pain is that the movesets for guys like Spike Dudley, Jeff Hardy and Raven who didn't make the game were completely accurate. They didn't just put a bunch of random moves for their movesets in the game, then just slapped their taunts and finishers and call it a moveset (unlike WWE2K games). THQ actually took their time with WWE SmackDown Here Comes the Pain. That's why I loved it.
Actually, Yukes (for it is Yukes who develops these games, with THQ/2K as publisher) got worse with accurate move-sets for preset wrestlers not in the game as years went on.

That first F5 is the most impactful finisher in any wrestling game I've ever seen. I remember getting that on every Create a Superstar I ever made
I still remember how I bragged to my friends about defeating broken tier superstars such as Lesnar and Goldberg with Rey-freakin-Mysterio and his agility.
It is really fun to play season mode as weak superstars instead of play as a champions contender. You build your reputation and struggle to win popularity without kissing asses.
I remember in one game there was a challenge to defeat Big Show using Rey.
The hardest thing I've ever done was going thru two seasons as Orton(I had to do it cuz it was right after he won the WHC and started rebelling against HHH). His stats were mad poor. I somehow won the title at Mania and defended in the 2nd season. I was getting my ass handed to me but it was worth winning all of my big matches, so I can def relate and agree to your statement.

yes he is, but Rey's Strength and Endurance in HCTP were pathetic. I had to use my opponent's momentum and countered their attack so I could overwhelm them with highflying moves. Fortunately Rey had great Technique [9] and perfect Speed [10]
It’s a small detail, but I appreciate that you had most wrestlers wrestling their opponent from that specific show/PPV on that exact same arena
the character models and the detailed movements are much better in this game than in 2k17 , for example when the rock does the peoples elbow in 2k17 he looks silly but in this game he looks like the rock

The only complaint for this game is that many had autopin.
That's because these moves aren't mo-capped but rather digitally animated & there is no "break out" move interruption ability.
