  • This is a sloppy how-to on changing Kia/Hundai's 7spd DCT fluid. The specific car I'm working on is a 2021 Kia Seltos SX trim using the 1.6L turbo w/AWD.

    This works for the '21 Elantra N-line. Thank you so much.
    Mines came out dark as heck at 26K miles and the smell was awful. The redline oil made alot of improvements too.
    I couldn't find the OEM washer kit so I bought a kit off Amazon that contained
    M18x24x1.5mm crush washers and it's the exact size and fit.
    I'm sold!

    Over here in the UK the Kia Dealers tell us the Gearbox is 'sealed for life' - by this I assume they mean for the 'life' of the 100k miles/7 year warranty. You are absolutely doing the right thing by maintaining the car's fluids, I'm all for that but I would be a little concerned that by changing the oil yourself if you later had some other problem with the DCT then maybe they would be able to test the oil and confirm that it's not factory oil and void the warranty? this will sound dramatic but warranties are basically insurance policies and tiny details matter.
    I only commented in this way because I'm currently investigating changing the Engine Oil on my 2021 Sportage with the 1.6 turbo engine because, like many, I don't like the sound of 10k service intervals when the engine holds less than 4ltrs of oil! my thinking was to 'extract' as much old oil as possible through the dipstick tube, replace with new oil, but leave the filter in place so as not to affect the warranty going forward. I've just subscribed by the way, thank you!

      All fluids degrade with time and heat, so I don't know why the manual says that it's sealed and it should not be changed. Programed obsolescence I think. The idea is to maintain everything in optimal conditions, not to buy a new transmition.

    The user manual says that this transmission has 70w GL4 DCTF oil and the oil you used in the video is for mechanical transmission can you explain to me

    • @crxtodd16
      @crxtodd16  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yup - Hyundai/Kia's 7spd DCT is in fact a manual transmission, albeit with an automatic shifting mechanism and a dual clutch. If you look over the Redline gear oil I used, it is the same weight and viscosity, GL4 transmission oil, thus being compatible with the DCT. Redline also advertises this fluid as being compatible specifically with this transmission.
      Of course you don't have to use Redline, you can also get the OEM gear oil directly from your local dealer. Either works just fine.

      No dipstick, unfortunately. According to the FSM you're supposed to be able to check it with the fill plug removed.

    I have a 2017 Hyundai Accent crdi with a 7spd DCT. I've been looking a bit online and am having a hard time finding good specific information about the transmission. Does anyone have a good resource for a workshop manual or something? Much obliged.

    • @crxtodd16
      @crxtodd16  Před rokem

      It's a good question. Hyundai and Kia utilize an online factory service resource (basically an online service manual) that you have to pay to access. I paid to access it on my previous car, a Genesis G70, then I downloaded most of the manual (they have it all divided up into sections, so it takes a lot of effort to download all of it).
      I found a couple segments online related to this transmission off some Hyundai and Kia forums. Otherwise, you can create an account on the Hyundai service website and pay their fee to access the service manual specifically for your car. It also has all the TSB's and other useful info. Even so, I've found that Hyundai/Kia's service manual to be very lacking in detail, unfortunately.
      The website is hyundaitechinfo(dot)com.
