Phesto Dee (Souls of Mischief) Part 1 | Take Notes Podcast

Phesto is a member of Oakland based hip hop collective Hieroglyphics and the group Souls of Mischief, who is known for his fast-paced and incredibly complex rhyming technique.
This interview was done as part of a research project which ultimately led to the idea for this podcast. It was a huge privilege to talk with him and I am so grateful to have had him share his personal experiences and his knowledge of music theory, history and culture.
Among many topics explored throughout the interview, Phesto discusses his early musical influences and experiences, how hip hop became an integral part of his life, different ways in which people engage with and are affected by music, as well as some scientific and theoretical background that help us understand these phenomena, and of course he discusses the iconic song 93 Til Infinity.
