  • Hey, crew! Today we continue onto the aft deck with the stanchions and stringers which will support our false deck. We also nearly finish the starboard aft corner of the bulwarks before realizing something is amiss.

    Considering y'all have to go to CZcams for some info and to see how something are done I will have to say y'all are doing a better job than some of the other videos I have watched and I appreciate how y'all always explain everything that you are doing.and I can't wait to see her fishing and taking in the money to recover what you have put into it I know just from materials was so expensive that it will take y'all several years to recover but hey at least y'all have a bigger and better holding tanks and now y'all can stay out longer without the risk of losing any catch and I know y'all are more excited than all of us.thank you for the video I always appreciate every single video y'all put out

      Absolutely, Scott! Thanks for being here with us. We are definitely excited to get her wrapped up. It does seem like everything has gotten quite expensive, consumables especially, grinder blades, gloves, sanding disks, and whatnot. We just do our best to shop smart. Island markup is always an issue we deal with here, so planning out projects, the bulwarks for example, has saved us quite a bit on material costs. But we're getting close now, it'll be nice to get some fish in her!

    I have to comment on the deck stringer design. The design and work is top notch and an additional stringer or two will ensure that there is little chance of sagging or flex under hard use. It’s a commercial boat, it will get hard use.
    Without the extra strength you might have to endure years being unsatisfied with the function of the rear deck. Extra hours of work today, to prevent years of looking at the deck and thinking about what should have been done. The risk is to high,,,,,
    GOOD CALL and another good video and I like the music. Wow the deck looks great .

    Considering the large amount of work she's had done on her superstructure, the alignment of that rear end seems relatively small, however I think you've managed some sterling engineering over the past year, well done guys and good luck with the final push!

    Can you remind us why there is raised deck, and how you will drain below it.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  Před měsícem

      Sure, the raised deck serves a couple purposes. One, it facilitates moving gear on deck. Say crab pots for example, we'll be able to slide heavier gear across the deck without worrying about damaging the fiberglass sub-straite.
      Two, it helps with drainage. We're not exactly sure how wet this deck will be. She is a heavier boat which means potentially you get more wave water on deck. If you're standing out there working the water drains through the boards instead of wrapping around your feet, especially towards the bulwarks.
      Three, It flattens the deck. The raised coaming of the holds becomes flush with the deck so there is no tripping hazard there. Also, the deck has a crown; a slight arching curve, port to starboard, this helps to shed water out of the scuppers. With this comes somewhat uncomfortable footing. Standing on a slight incline all day is pretty uncomfortable, the false deck flattens the entire thing.
